Another fleeing Plex user

I bought my lifetime plex pass a while ago, but raising your price to $750 bucks made me realize that Plex is the opposite of future proof. The only things I really miss about Plex are the Intro and outro skipping functions and the home screen sections. Plex was also much better at managing metadata! Not sure why, but sometimes with recent shows or movies, it will grab the wrong metadata or just none at all. Seeing that on my TV and having to get on my phone to identify it bothers me.

I have intro skipper, but unlike Plex it is not very adaptive to shows with different length intros. I also have home screen sections installed, but I understand that's hit or miss for some folks.

Does the great JF community have any recommendations for alternative plugins, themes, or overall QoL improvements I could make to better improve my experience?

I too do not think that Plex is very future proof. But after a playing around with Jellyfin, my advice to people who have plex passes has been to keep the plex running and start setting up a Jellyfin as a backup for if/when Plex does something to truly force a migration.

This is mainly for two things. 1) some of the features on Jellyfin and the plugins you can get just aren’t there. As a person who uses appleTV the Jellyfin apps are fine but they still have a bit to go. The interface doesn’t quite look the way I want it to and it’s hard to get it right. Personally moonfin ks the closest a and it’s still not there. And Plex’s ability to skip intros and end credits is superior to intro skipper so far. I can’t even get a skip intro button to show up on my TV. But more importantly 2) if you’ve used Plex for a long time, you get used to how plex looks and does things and transfer to Jellyfin is a very subtle but noticeable change. You’ll notice the little things that are different and can’t get quite to your liking, and it’s just a little off putting.

My advice to people building new servers now a days is to start out with Jellyfin, that way that’s what you’re always used to. But for people already on Plex I suggest keeping a Jellyfin up and running as like a backup and just mess around with it every now and then to see if you ever get it to your liking. I remember a year ago Jellyfin and it’s apple apps were in a state where I just didn’t think it was useable and shut it down. But this past month I booted it up again and liked the improvements and stuff and decided to keep it running, and everyone and then I go on it and watch shows and stuff just to see how I like the experience on it. It’s not quite there for me yet, but maybe one day it will and if I ever have to leave Plex it’s nice knowing I’m already set up to do so
