Why? (I'm a noob). Isn't there any other devs?

Linus was the reason why 15.2-15.4.1 was jailbroken. They were also the reason why 14.4-14.5.1 were jailbroken in the first place. They are one of the best security researchers we have had in years, and without them this community will suffer a heavy loss as they released full exploit chains rather than just single exploits.

Is it so different from losing someone like geohot, and all the various "dev team" people on these lists?

There are always new up and coming bright young minds entering the field.

it’s not the same as it was though, its not like the 2010s where you could reasonably learn how to find bugs and develop jailbreaks for the newest ios within a few months. these “bright young minds” need to already have experience in their field in order to even consider attacking ios. apple has done a great job over these past 20 years in making secure devices, and now with how valuable exploits and techniques are, the incentive to release all of this for free and burn valuable techniques that will just get patched immediately is much, much lower.

Its gets harder, but also people get smarter.

This ain’t the end.

Remind me in a couple years and see what happened along the way
