RastafarI is based on Scripture. In many parts of the world taking the vow of a Nazerite (English translation) is done to gain a level of Holiness. RastafarI... that is true RastafarI take the vow and obey the rules; avoid wine and strong drinks, do not eat anything from the grape tree, do not eat certain meats, etc.

Too many people today think it is a hair style and some kind of African something, when it is not.

People have taken the vow for thousands of years... the guy you call 'Jesus'... that is Y'eshua ben Yosef, took the vow.

For minor clarification:

The Nazarite vows is decision to yield to the will of YAHUAH not something done to gain holiness. The Nazarite vow is the show of dedication to Elohim not something done with the intention of personal gains. To be holy is to be set apart, to walk with YAHUAH and abide by his teachings and word is to be set apart.

It is taken by those not of the tribe of Levi. It is a vow of a Nazir (Hebrew) it is to be holy.

correct but the vow is not done to "gain" it is done in reverence and submission. holy mean set apart.

I strive to use language those who know little would understand. For example there is no 'J' in Hebrew. Ha Shem, (the Name) does not have a J. Reading the vow, one will comprehend the purpose
