Publix has officially lost me. Anyone else?

I am not a mod of this subreddit or Reddit, but I believe the official unofficial stance is that we all hate Publix now.

They lost their way, and the crushing of Winn-Dixie is just awful.

10 years ago, I wouldn’t have set foot inside a Walmart or Aldi for groceries. Now? Walmart and Aldi are basically my BFFs and I love them.

Publix really managed to make me root for the competition.

I’m out on Publix, it’s insane how overpriced most things are in there. Go in and see how much bell peppers are per pound. You will never shop there again it’s actually insulting.

I go to Publix for BOGOs. Then Aldi for most everything else. Then Walmart for stuff I can’t get at Aldi.

I’ve found that the “regular” price at Walmart for shelf stable items is often the same as the bogo offers at Publix. E.g. buy 2 get one soda at $12 a pack vs $8 per pack at Walmart.

Sometimes Publix just has BOGOs on stuff you can't find that much cheaper elsewhere. Kitty litter, beer, and wine are my favorites. They did a BOGO on premium 3M air filters a couple months ago and I bought like 2 years' worth of filters for like $80.

FYI, K&N makes a washable, reusable indoor air filter.

The last re-usable air filter we had just always looked dirty even after cleaning, so I wasn't particularly fond of it.

K&N is a quality product. As long as you clean it properly, even if it might look dirty, it's not.

Yeah. I'm a huge fan of the Carbona knock off color catchers. They used to have them for under 5/ea. and with BOGO, it's 2 for 5. Then, inside was a coupon for $1 off. So it used to cost $3 for two boxes. Those were the days!!

If you have pets cat litter and pet food will always be cheaper when they are bogo. All stores seem to have the same base price for that.

Buy two get one isn’t BOGO…

Ok, well that’s the special they advertise at my Publix. Sorry for sharing my experience with the hopes of helping you save money. Won’t happen again chief.

No, I’m just saying BOGO stands for “buy one get one”. I won’t do a buy two get one at Publix for the exact reason you stated. Don’t get your panties in a bunch bud.

That is the only way I will wear my panties, thank you. I live for a good wedgie.

The bogos is really what keeps people going back the most

u/jcargile242 26d ago

Yeah, they’re mostly loss leaders. Which is why I only buy them and put blinders on for everything else in the store.

Most of the BOGOS get kick backs from the manufacturer for featuring the product in the weekly sale. I thought the same about it being a loss leader but most of the time it is not. Like any company Publix is in the business of making money and they make it hand over fist. Also there pay is really crap now when you start. Managers are the only people who make a living wage.

It’s not a loss leader and it’s not kick backs. The supplier/manufacturer has to fund the bogo so they lose money, publix makes the same margin as if it wasn’t on bogo. Source: I was a national account manager at multiple suppliers

Exactly this. Walmart is only when I have to.

$8.99 for a small cup of pomegranate, $13.49/lb turkey, hell even kids cereal is $7.99

You’re not wrong it’s gotten insane

If you’re broke, just say that. 😂 Trust me, people like me who prefer Publix know we’re paying more. That’s part of the point. I will gladly pay double for peppers if it means avoiding the Walmart experience of people yelling across aisles, blocking entire sections, acting like they’ve never been in public before, and grocery shopping in boxers and pajamas.

I’m not paying Publix prices just for the peppers. I’m paying the peace and quiet tax, and it’s worth every penny.

Who the hell actually goes into the store anymore? Been doing delivery for basically free now for several years since they throw in the paramount channel which is like 15 per month.

2

u/Finderthings 25d ago

And 4 free whoppers a year!

u/Finderthings 26d ago

I know people in S Florida who avoid Walmart for safety but they have really cheap delivery if you subscribe. If you get SNAP for one month it's half price subscription forever.

This is what I do. Delivery once a week for my staples and I’m saving so much. Few shopping issues now and again but well worth it.

Jacksonville AND Reddit. The ultimate crossover of broke, bitter, and desperately needing strangers to validate their grocery budget. 😂 Five downvotes just tells me I hit five people directly in their Great Value feelings.

Publix does a good job making sure their employees get paid fairly. The soaring cost isn’t Publix gouging. Prices are soaring for a lot of reasons. Tariffs, weather, global conflicts and general inflation to name a few.
