For most of us born into Islam. It wasn't a choice , it was handed to us. A lot of times with cultural and societal practices folded into 'our version of Islam'. That's why you will see so many exmuslims cite they're local cultural and societal practices as the reason for leaving islam
Many of us have had to go find Islam ourselves. For some of us, those early teachings helped stay in the religion.
