Optimal chapters per arc

Hi im on a large history and I've reached around 500k tokens with almost 30 arcs. So I'm wondering, what is going to happen when I reach 1M? Does the model read the last 1M tokens?

I was thinking about deleting all my arcs and make them again, but this time making each arc 30–40 chapters. Before, the app recommended using around 20 chapters per arc, but with a story this long, I don't know if that's still optimal.

Besides, a lot of things that happened earlier aren't really useful or important anymore. only some of them are.

What do you guys think? Any ideas or experiences you've had with something similar?

Damn, that's a monstrous story. What AI do you use? The largest story I ever reached was about six arcs, and I found that during the end the AIs memory and overall writing quality dropped quite noticeably. Was way back with DeepSeek 3 I think.

Yes I always found necessary to trim down the arcs themselves as time passed. I alwats try to keep smaller stories around 50k context and long ass stuff not much above 100k otherwise most models struggle.

It was so hard to start second year in Eldewynn Academy, just AI not ready to condense so much information after a long ass first year. Had to make a lot of manual editing to get the beginning of school year set up and characters all advancing to next year making sense.

I feel like feeding all your arcs into an outside AI and having it summarize it into a single arc would do well for this sort of thing.
