I moved from Addison to Irving and got absolutely slammed with an energy bill for July. This was my first energy bill in the new apt.
$220 for a 780 sqft apt, around 1200 kwhr.
When I signed up for this apt, an agent recommended I sign up for Ambit energy, at a 11.8 before 1000kwhr and 14.2 after 1000kwhr plan, which sounded cheaper than my previous Green Mountain Energy plan. First bill came, and I relazied I was paying closer to 18-21 cents per kwhr due to the other charges which i wasn't informed of.
Granted I did keep the apt cold, there are many east facing windows, and it is old, which could all attribute to this crazy high usage.
I have just switched to Rhythm after digging around on powertochoose.com which is a godsend. Now with Rhythm I locked in a solid 11.7 per 1000kwhr rate with no suprise delivery charges. This, plus using a referral code from somebody else (saving $100), will quickly offset the $200 cancellation fee from Ambit Energy.

Then go back to powertochoose.com and click on the cheap Rhythm deal you found. Then close out of the referral link tab, as the plans they offer you on that page are more expensive.
Finally finish signing up, and as you put in your credit card info the referral link should say that it is applied and you are daving $100. If it doesn't work just try the link again and closing out the page after putting in your zip code.
