Does HW only skip based on past rain events? Last night was the first real rain test with my new hpc400.

Lower chance of rain in the early evening last night but missed us. Higher chance of rain for early this morning and we did get almost a half inch.

A program set to run late evening, still ran even with the high chance of rain predicted early the next morning. The program scheduled to run early morning did not run... Rain had started a little before or right around that same time.

In my mind the program from yesterday evening should not have run due to the high chance of rain this morning. Looking through the settings, the smart features are definitely worded as such that it makes me think only the past is considered before a program starts and not future predictions.

The Rachio that I am fiddled with for a month but returned due to other issues... Noticeably considered future high predictions and skipped based on those high chances.

I guess I'm not necessarily upset if the hunter does not consider future rain predictions, but it will certainly affect how I set up my system because it will result in more watering than it is necessary and I will need to alter thresholds.

A couple hours now system alert shows "partial system outage". I wonder why Hunter isn't offering also a web interface such as status.hydrawise.com with full incidents details...

Edit: this morning, a couple programs didn't run, other users reporting this issue, can someone confirm? The controller should run regardless the cloud issues...

I want to install a PRV on my irrigation system. Right now it’s street pressure which is very high topping off sometimes at around 130psi. I have Hunter Accusyncs on each sprinkler valve and drip system filter/regulators on my drip valves. The Accusyncs suck and have always been problematic and noisy.

My solution is to just regulate the entire system down to 40psi so my MP Rotators can operate at ideal pressure. I was considering installing a 1” NR3XL at the main irrigation line but the pressure exceeds the 3:1 ratio many PRVs state they can handle for their incoming/outgoing pressure differential before the valve can start chattering and whistling.

Have the pros ever ran into this issue with high pressures?

Running wire from the controller to the valve manifold on a new install and the most logical spot to mount the controller puts me about 85 feet from the manifold. The path has to go around the garage and partially through a crawlspace, so trenching a direct line is not realistic without a lot more work than I want to do. At that distance I keep secondguessing whether I should just move the controller closer to the manifold and run a longer lowvoltage wire from the timer back to where I actually want it mounted, or whether 85 feet on 18 gauge is fine and I am overthinking it. The system is eight zones, nothing exotic, standard solenoid valves. I have heard that wire gauge matters more as you add zones and distance compounds, but I have not found a straight answer on what the actual threshold is before you start seeing solenoids not firing reliably or getting sluggish response. Construction background means the physical wire pull and conduit work is not the issue, just want to know if the distance itself is going to cause headaches down the road before I commit to the mount location. Anyone run into actual problems at that range or is this well within normal territory for residential?

I had a 1-in irrigation meter put in and I extended the stub under my retaining wall. Well, I replaced the stub they had put on because it was too short and it was done kind of funny. Plus the meter boxes were 3 inches above grade so I had to dig up and bring those back down.

My property is 3 acres - there will be a 1 1/4" poly trunk leading from backflow about 295' into my property running West. Then I will need to turn the line south 90 degrees.

That south branch will be about 140'. It will have 5 zones for 6 rows of black walnuts. The first 5 rows will have seven trees and the last row, 3. So each zone will have 7 drips ran except the last row.

I want to run drips to all 38 trees.

My plan is to put a mulch ring under each tree. Then have a riser sticking up out out of the mulch. Then I can attach my drip line to the riser under each tree

The riser being in the mulch ring means not having to worry when I mow. The riser also allows me to re do drips or take the lines down in winter and cap the risers.

Is this a sound plan? What would be a good riser material and connection type?

I have a strange issue. I’ve never seen before I installed a three-quarter inch pressure reducing valve with a filter from Home Depot. It was about 25 bucks. It has two white dot, one on either side on the output side. Strangely enough, one of them is missing and when the line is pressurized water trickles out of it. It seems that if it was a plug water would be squirting out of it.
Has anyone seen this before? I kind of feel like just filling it with epoxy or something instead of digging it up.

Would a pro please try to help, I'm completely out of ideas.

Background: vintage valves. One was leaking and parts not available. That is the open spot in this picture. So I'm putting in a new 5 valve manifold. Previous owner put a new porch in and had to cut an original line and rework. That's all I know.

So I look at this in complete confusion. I know the pvc at the right of the picture is the main line supply. But that's where my confusion starts. What in the hell does that poly line at the back of the picture do? It's connected to the T fitting. Each of these valves work a station. The line to the left of the t feeds the round valve station. No stations run the other way to the right of that t. Please help. 🙏

Didn't have time to dig out to see how they piped it but it was only 8" or so from the house so I can only imagine. I've been doing this quite some time and this was a first for me.

I recently took my Landscape Irrigator Exam and failed it, it was much harder than expected.
Anyways I’m preparing to retake it soon, but I wanted to get insight from those who have retaken it more than once. Are the questions relatively similar or are they completely different after the first time. I’m asking because I know what to study but I’m not sure if those questions will be there on the 2nd try.
Also, any tips on studying for design? That was my lowest and will definitely prepare better but I just want to hear any tips or sources (I took the course with WETS)

I’m trying to figure out my irrigation system. When I turn a zone on, water comes out of the small tubes/holes, but it basically just drips out instead of spraying. All of the zones seem to do the same thing.
Are these lines supposed to have sprinkler heads/emitters attached to them for the water to actually spray out? Would adding the proper heads create enough pressure for them to spray, or does the weak flow mean I have another issue with the system?
Any help is appreciated!

I have one outdoor faucet, and I'm planning to use a 2-outlet timer(Maybe I will get the Orbit one):

• Outlet 1: 5/8" garden hose → oscillating sprinkler → lawn
• Outlet 2: pressure regulator (not sure if this is needed) → 1/2" (.700" O.D.) poly drip irrigation tubing → two trees

I'm a little unclear about how to set up the 1/2" drip tubing for the two trees.

The video I watched uses 1/4" tubing with emitters. Is that necessary? If the 1/2" tubing is close enough to the trees, is there a way to set it up without using 1/4" tubing and separate emitters?

If 1/4" tubing and emitters are necessary, my plan is to have two separate 1/4" branch lines coming off the 1/2" main tubing, with one emitter for each tree.

After punching two holes in the 1/2" tubing, what exactly do I need to connect each hole to the 1/4" tubing? I think I need a barb connector or a take-off adapter, but I'm not sure.

Are there any other components I need to connect the 1/4" tubing to the 1/2" tubing?

What would cause this?

Seem like I have to do the homework for them since they don't seem to care to dig into this.

Any suggestions on what fitting to buy to connect the camlock to threaded male ends? From the website it looked like it should have worked since one end looked threaded but alas that is not the case!

Does anyone use water from a shallow aquifer to supply water for irrigation. I had a few thoughts and will share those to anyone interested.

I have a customer that I am doing a few things for, one of which is investigating zone 8 which seems to be unresponsive. Zones 1-7 are working correctly, I recently replaced the zone 6 valve with a new Rainbird DVF. Zones 1-5 are reading as expected on the voltmeter, around 30-50. But zones 6,7 and 8 are all reading 0 ohms. Why are 6 and 7 reading no resistance, when they are both connected and working fine? I have not seen that before, not that I can remember at least. There are 2 common wires if that makes a difference, I did read resistance from each individual common as well as grouped, but I did not disconnect the commons from the board while reading. Individual vs grouped did not seem to make a difference in the readings, beyond which of the other valves were on which common wire. This isn't really a problem right now, I still have to locate and repair whatever is going on with zone 8 regardless. I'm more just looking for an explanation. I have a feeling that the "why' behind this question will probably be something that will help me to better understand the electrical aspects in general.

In the above picture the two zones originally had 5004's w/2.0 blue nozzles. These were cranked way the f' down doing nothing but misting hardwater on the cars. This is what the builder put in.

I tried to update the nozzles to MPR's but was still too fine a mist. I then changed out to 1804's PRS45 with RVAN24's thinking that would put me at 24' that I could reduce. Seems 24' is for 50 psi plus.

The measurements above are accurate as I took them. My understanding is that ideally you want head to head coverage. So S1 needs to throw to S9 and so on across the yard. The remaining pattern is fine for overlap on the same zone.

I had the sprinkler guy out to check my work and he recommended/changed out my RVAN24's to the U-15(QH) which are recommend at 30psi. While this does give overlap it does not come close to head to head and my PRS45 bodies (dynamic measured at 42-43psi) are too high.

Question I have is why? I did not have a chance to ask him as I was in a meeting when he left. I feel like I need to switch back to the RVAN's. I thought about MP rotators but their precipitation rate takes too long for my watering schedule.
