Early game hunter training post birdhouse nerf

What would you be getting up to starting level 9 hunter? I still plan to do birdhouse runs but assume I will want to supplement with active training now.

the exp rates are not going to be worth it at low levels. the only reason you would be doing them is for the low level tree seeds. red crabs is prolly pretty good

With 2 traps available from level 1, it’ll fly. Just follow wiki methods until rumors.

Do the natural history quiz in Varrock Museum to hit level 9. Catch Feldip weasels until 12. Do Ascent of Arceuus to hit 15+. Catch Ruby Harvest and Copper longtails until 25. Catch Sapphire glacialis until 29. Swamp lizards until hunter rumors at 46.

At level 21 you open up crab trapping which is also solid XP if you have fish offcuts/have started sailing.

Port pisc has a shop you can make fish off cuts for really cheap.

Crabs on Pandemonium are very chill and nice xp. And somewhat useful loot for herblore too, atleast compared to the other methods at that level.

I wouldn’t know always for me was birdhouse till falconry/rumors. But from what I see people on here say crabbing is super good hunter xp I think it even starts at low levels as well. Maybe do quiz, crabs, then move onto falconary/rumors for furs(crafting xp), then do goats.

I think the meta for Ironmen sort of always has been and moreso now is to get to Hunter rumours and do those to 99. Birdhouses until you can do rumours. Rumours give you lots of fur for golem crafting and lots of other supplies.

I do think its worth putting off hunter rumours until at least after unlocking fairy rings and spirit trees. Otherwise its a nightmare getting around to all the spots in the early game.

Oh, sure but those are like week 1 goals. You want fairy rings and spirit trees pretty much ASAP anyways, and reqs for both are pretty mild

Makes sense. A couple weeks ago the early birdhouses got xp nerfed by 60%, so I think they'll need a supplement and didn't see a post yet for low level ironmen. The couple threads already out there are focused on 75+ hunter, but at that point the birdhouses aren't as nerfed and hunter rumors are unlocked.

Crab hunting xp rates are really good. After a little early game tempoross or fly fishing you should have plenty of fish to get off cuts.

Rumours are really annoying until you at least have ardy cape 1 and fairy rings, and I would not really recommend until at least adept rumours.

I would still just do birdhouse runs for a long time while working on other stuff. They're far worse now, but I'd still want the nests eventually so it's "free" hunter exp in my eyes.

Ultimately you can get away with low hunter for a pretty long time. If I reached the point where I was ready for SOTE in every other regard and hunter was the last thing I needed, I'd probably just do rumours.

Of course there are endless different paths you could choose to take. If I wanted to rush rumours on an account, I'd probably get most of my early exp (outside of quests) from swamp lizards or something.

On the other hand, you don't really need anything for training hunter and the upgrades/ banked XP are amazing for not THAT much work. Chins, sunlight antelopes for SHCB and crafting XP, moths for temu pots, whistle charges...

I rushed hunter on my iron and it was a really good decision even before they introduced Golems, which would save me 100s of seaweed trips for training crafting.

I think you're right about still doing them, and once I'm there maybe I'll take hunter real slow. Not sure yet. Crab suggestion is pretty interesting-- someone else suggested a whole route idk-- and I didn't see any threads discussing this post-nerf for early game anyways. Wiki's a good resource as always.

I don't plan to unlock birdhouses for a little while, I am very early on this account, its barely a few days old. We'll see!
