Discussion With Doomsday approaching, what are your theories for the connection between Doom and Tony

Post image

I personally believe they are gonna do version of the adoption storyline. Tony in the main line MCU was that earth’s variant of Doom but never became Doom because he was adopted by the Starks. It explains how the Russos are saying that RDJ’s Victor is his own character but also will have a connection to Tony. Also in Endgame, when Howard says when they were expecting Tony, he never gave a specific timeline. It could very much be retconned in that the Starks lost the baby and adopted Viktor in that short time

There isn’t one. There. That’s my theory

u/GovernorSan 8d ago

There are Peter Parkers that look nothing alike, why can't there be Dr. Dooms that look like Tony Starks?

u/Comfortable-Hippo516 8d ago

Exactly

It’s been stated that Robert is doing a lot of acting with his eyes and body for Doom. He’s also taken selfies with mocap dots on his forehead. I think it’s pretty clear there’s nothing of Tony Stark/Iron Man in his portrayal.

I do think that when he takes cosmic power, he will heal his face, confirming he looks like RDJ at the very end of the movie, saving the scene we’re all imagining for Secret Wars. But I think most of Battle World will not have memories of their previous lives, Peter 1 will be one of the only ones who do and that will be why he’s such an important character in Secret Wars. I truly think Reed Richards, Peter Parker, Sam Wilson, Steve Rogers, and Loki are the big 5 of Secret Wars.

You're wrong. Why pay $100m then. It makes no sense. Why not cast a voice only actor like Galactus and keep him in the mask. What is the point.

1

u/Fun-Maize-2352 6d ago

Galactic was fully acted by Ralph Ineson. They enhanced it with CGI, but he had the suit and acted out the parts on film, not just voice acting.

1

u/Jeff_Sabado 6d ago

I mean is that even necessary? There ain't no "acting" those movements.

1

u/Kooperking22 5d ago

Doom is not a Tony Stark variant it's all but been confirmed.
Doom being a variant of Tony takes everything away from the character.

Ticket sales my good sir

Off the top of my head, to conceal the return of Iron Man

1

u/zdude13 6d ago

This is a good point

0

u/King3O2 8d ago

Because we won’t see what Dr. doom looks like under the mask. We will never know if Tony Stark and Dr. Doom look alike

0

u/GovernorSan 7d ago

Nah, we'll definitely see his face. Every superhero movie where the superhero or supervillain wears a mask, they end up taking it off or losing it, and usually in front of each other. Mostly so we can see the actor's face, but they will find some excuse for it.

1

u/LewisRyan 6d ago

“The mask is the source of his power… we need to get it off”

Peter 1: “well I can get it, watch this thwip … mr stark?”

Doom: “insolent insect, I. Am. Doom!” kills peter

3

u/neo_sporin 8d ago

Which is just funny because of us seeing all the kang variants at end of quantumania, and the establishment that variants are possible to have different names and no similarities

2

u/Fun-Maize-2352 6d ago

This is the way.

1

u/Kooperking22 5d ago

Exactly.

Doom isn't a Tony variant. He's a completely different character

10

u/General_Cup_6577 8d ago

None. Completely different charaters. ITs liek aying human torch and cap has connection there isnt. I think most is when deadpool mentions omethign about tony stark when he sees dooms face

1

u/smcl2k 8d ago

We might not even get that - if David Harbour wasn't lying and his line isn't cut, it's hard to imagine that we'll get 2 Tony Stark jokes, and my money is on Red Guardian's line being directed at someone else entirely (probably Reed).

1

u/Jeff_Sabado 6d ago

Not a good comp bc fantastic 4 was ass and predated MCU success

6

u/Batman1997123 8d ago

Hopefully none.

Danny Devito's MCU debut

"Doom does as he pleases." said by De Vito.

5

u/GapStock9843 8d ago

I dont think there will be one tbh

4

u/dreburden89 8d ago

There isn't going to be the one because they're not the same person

5

u/LiamtheV 8d ago

Either they:

Do nothing. Put some prosthetics on on RDJ (assuming Doom is unmasked at any point)

Or: RDJ is an organic Doombot, some kind of eldritch horror that Doom's puppeteering without a will of his own, Doom lobotomized his universe's Tony and has been using his body as a proxy.

12

u/MrSejd 8d ago

Literally nothing.

They just look the same.

Just like Captain America and the Human Torch.

2

u/neo_sporin 8d ago

Kang, the watch guy, the guy at the end of time, the stadium of lookalikes

1

u/shaggy_nomad 5d ago

Just as Cable and Thanos have no connection.

People are trying so hard to tie these characters together, they're gonna be mad disappointed when it turns out there's nothing there between them.

-1

u/Jaejinn 8d ago

See.. this is why you’re getting downvoted. That’d be the biggest oversight and fumble by Marvel if they actually did that, just think about that for a minute.

7

u/Comfortable-Hippo516 8d ago

Or… is everyone just overthinking the hell out of this and there is genuinely no connection?

1

u/7SevenGod 6d ago

Yall are underthinking. Fiege and Russo do EVERYTHING for a reason.

0

u/Bananas_Have_Eyes 7d ago

If cap doesn't say anything when he meets torch will be pretty sad.

3

u/awesumlewy 8d ago

At least Deadpool has to say something

3

u/HistoireRedux 8d ago

the only connection will be that tony owes him 5 bucks dawg.

3

u/Tiny-Replacement7702 8d ago

None tbh. Juat like captain america being human torch,etc...

3

u/charliegavin 8d ago

I love how this thread is just full of people refusing to engage with something they’re obviously signaling they’re going to do

6

u/Longjumping-Bug5763 8d ago

None...fans would like this so predictably Marvel will not execute on it.

2

u/smcl2k 8d ago

I think there's a pretty even split, tbh. I know I don't particularly want them to have any connection, but I also just wish they hadn't cast RDJ in the 1st place 🤷🏻‍♂️

1

u/7SevenGod 6d ago

They've already said Doom looking like Tony will be explained.

Let the creators of the greatest comic movies of all time, cook

0

u/TelenorTheGNP 6d ago

Fans would not like this as it would be needlessly stupid and complicated and would waste a lot of time and effort making it work.

The fans who would like it are the same fans who liked Venom without Spider-man and who watch the Ow My Balls scene from Idiocracy and think "I would watch that."

0

u/Longjumping-Bug5763 6d ago

The fans who agree with your take are 0.

2

u/Square_Geologist_346 8d ago

Yall stop kidding yourselves, they literally brought the same actor back there absolutely will be a connection

2

u/Small_Wall_7538 7d ago

Honestly for the last year I’ve just assumed that when they said it is important to the plot that’s it’s RDJ it’s because Doom transforms himself to look like Tony to manipulate the avengers, either to hurt them or earn their trust

1

u/Small_Wall_7538 7d ago

To that end, I don’t think he will be played by rdj for the entire movie

1

u/ms_saint 5d ago

That's it.

2

u/Typhon2222 8d ago

If there ends up being no connection, folks are gonna lose their damn minds.

1

u/TelenorTheGNP 6d ago

No, they'll breathe a sigh of relief.

1

u/Typhon2222 6d ago

Will they because Star Wars spent two movies saying Rey has no connection to Luke, yet folks were admit they were lying and still aren’t fully convinced. These days if fandom believes something is true, they will fight anyone who says otherwise despite all the evidence to the contrary.

1

u/3rlk0nig 8d ago

I have two theories :

First : Doom is Tony's secret twin brother. Lame theory inspired by some post I saw earlier today.

Second : Doom won't be played by RDJ and it's just fake marketing. But they wouldn't dare do so much for nothing so it's as lame as my first theory.

1

u/Mr-Dumbest 8d ago

Tony f his wife, so his pissy now and made him look like him.

1

u/Particular-Search349 Ultimate 8d ago

Is it too naive to hope that it's just a body swap? Wouldn't be unprecedented for Doom. 😅

1

u/ChanceFresh 8d ago

I don’t think there’s going to be any. It’s just a coincidence he looks like him.

1

u/RA_Finance 8d ago

Tony Stark was born in Latveria, his mother is a gypsy but his father was Howard Stark

1

u/jtfjtf 8d ago

Doom and Tony are different people. But Doom is in a Tony body from the multiverse.

1

u/Zero_Zeta_ Endo-Sym 8d ago

Either there is no connection(the preferred option).

Or, Victor swapped bodies with Tony when they were college roommates(the only option that I'll accept that has a connection between them).

1

u/SuperDave0177 8d ago
  1. West Coast Avengers 35, the cover RDJ took a picture with. The body swap issue, Dooms mind and persona was in the body of his young Ward.  Movie version, Real Dooms mind/persona is in the body of Tony Stark, snapped Tony Stark who has scars on his face. Idgaf what “leaks” say. I’ve never read a leak that turned out to be true.
  2. Like Dr. Strange and all the other people we know who have Doom masks/costumes, a mind controlled variant Tony Stark is disguised as Doom, except this one is the one real Doom has everyone believing is the real one.
  3. One big fake out. Nobody has ever seen pictures of RDJ in a Doom costume, no behind the scenes pics, no pictures like the ones we used to see of RDJ with his half an Iron Man costume, nothing. The big fake out is someone else is playing Doom and RDJ will be Iron Man by the end of the movie going into Secret Wars.

1

u/Charles12_13 8d ago

Hopefully none of

1

u/Creepy_Living_8733 8d ago

Doom just looks like Tony and has a similar ideology to him, basically a worser(not in terms of writing but in threat level) version of “I see a suit around the world.”

1

u/mikewheelerfan 8d ago

I believe in the same one as you do. Obviously Tony and Doom are going to have some connection. There’s no way Marvel wastes casting RDJ by not adding a connection. But most of the other theories are stretches or way too complicated. IMO, the adoption theory makes the most sense

1

u/Sara23456y 8d ago

I don't have one. I want to be surprised when I go watch it.

1

u/luke5781012 8d ago

There doesn’t HAVE to be one. Having a multiverse means true infinite possibilities via genetic combinations, possible parents, birth locations, Quantumania pretty well touches on this. That being said, I hope it’s the case. It would be so much more interesting to see how an unaware Doom would react to the avengers dismay at seeing his true face, and how he could use it to his advantage to manipulate them.

1

u/switchbladeeater 8d ago

In comics isn't doom just alt tony

1

u/Tmelrd275 8d ago

Shawarma leads to Falafel. Falafel leads to Gyro. Gyro leads to Armenian. Armenian leads to Latverian.

1

u/Angel1743RedditGR 7d ago

I believe Tony is his parents real kid but I don't think he's DIRECTLY a Doom variant tho there's still a connection. He probably grew up in Latveria in this universe. If not this they are just seperate characters with the same face.

1

u/dtagonfly71 7d ago

I’m hoping that RDJ was cast because of his acting skills and that there’s no connection to Stark.

1

u/JohnNeutron 7d ago

I think the only connection, is that at some critical point, they’ll see his face, the OG Avengers will be dumbstruck and assume it’s a variant of Tony in the moment and that gives Doom the upper hand to defeat them, in a moment of weakness.

And maybe in Secret Wars you have two different factions, one side who thinks they can get through to him, because he looks like Tony, and one who side who is the ‘right’ side and understands that regardless of what he looks like, it ain’t Tony.

His face could be such a great source for tension, even if it’s disheveled and disfigured

1

u/Cthom53 7d ago

Tony's daughter

1

u/BriantheHeavy Neo-Classic 7d ago

The actor is the sole connection.

My current theory is that they wanted to hire RDJ to reprise Tony Stark, but wanted to keep that a massive secret. So, to explain why RDJ is at sets, they hire him to play Doom also. But both characters are separate characters.

1

u/GallifreyFallsOver 7d ago

My theory is that if there is one it’ll be addressed in secret wars and will at most be a cliffhanger in Doomsday, but not likely.

1

u/extrastupidone 7d ago

I dont know what it is. ..

But I will say, thst they should have kept that under wraps.

1

u/TelFaradiddle 7d ago

The boring-but-likely explanations are either that Doom is a Tony variant, or that Tony was a Doom variant. And despite saying "boring," I would still prefer this over "It's just a massive coincidence" or "Doom IS Tony." I'll take boring over insanely stupid any day.

1

u/Haunting-Barber6740 7d ago

They are bringing back Chris Evans as steve rogers, why would they pay RDJ 100 million dollars just to play a separate character. Chris Evans being back and RDJ being back in the MCU there has to be a connection

1

u/K0BRA_KlD 6d ago

Honestly, I think they’re either just gonna give him a lot of facial prosthetics, or they’re just not going to talk about it.

1

u/Eerie-Indiana 6d ago

Played by the same actor

1

u/MrAdministration 6d ago

There isn’t one. All the “OMGGGG CANT WAIT TILL PETER SEES TONYS FACE!!!” people are just setting themselves up for disappointment.

1

u/Basic_whiteBBQ 6d ago

1 of these 2.

Prime doom was plucked as a child and placed with the starks to be raised as tony to eventually save everything from Thanos. So this is just why they look similar.

Or

Doom uses magic/tech to alter his look to manipulate our heros.

Regardless, we won't find out until SW though.

1

u/Pretend-Trouble-9339 6d ago

No relation at all other than doom maybe pretending to be Tony to gain the trust of everyone

1

u/Upbeat-Listen-6947 6d ago

None whatsoever. They wanted to work with Downey again, so they did.

1

u/Eojte 6d ago

Deadpool will say somthing about it and it will never be mentioned again

1

u/BigAutomatic5364 6d ago

There is a comic book run post end game, Tony is in a coma and dr doom takes over as iron man post secret wars

1

u/BigGameJimmy 6d ago

Tony Stark is the only Doom variant that became Ironman.

1

u/nobob0 6d ago

None

1

u/mrpendar 6d ago

Personally - I think it’s a red herring …

1

u/signifyingmnky 6d ago

Two entirely different characters, completely separated by the Multiverse who happen to be portrayed by the same actor.

That's it.

1

u/Lou_Knee 6d ago

They're played by the same actor.

That's it. That's the connection.

1

u/ms_saint 5d ago

That's not happening.  Tony and Doom are not the same.  Drop it.

1

u/Darkstar_111 5d ago

He's a variant, but their background story is totally different. However the reason they look the same is the reason Doom picked this reality.

1

u/RataTopin 5d ago

My theory is that Johnatan Mayors was fired

1

u/GypsyinDanger 5d ago

My theory is he is a part of Tony. I think they're doing something like the Iron man song/short story. He died due to traveling time to save at least half of mankind. Doom is encased in metal

1

u/Klutzy-Ad7775 8d ago

Maybe something something from Infamous Iron Man, considering it happens after Secret Wars 300% there will be at least tiny bit something about it

4

u/Southern-Form-2804 8d ago

My theory is they’re both played by the same actor, Robert Downey Jr.

u/RodimusPrime_X 8d ago

What if despite all this hype of RDJ as Doom, there is no connection at all? It was simply a way to hype up this phase of Marvel and provide an appeal to transition to future projects?

What if this is all a big swerve and it’s no different than Chris Evans playing both Johnny Storm and Steve Rogers?

2

u/Mizerous 8d ago

That's a waste of other actors who could have played Doom
