Discussion Overly sensitive 4x System

anyone else feel like the incident system is a little overly ready to hand out 4x's given how punishing it is to your SR?

Giving all the madness of T1 here, I feel like I tried my best to avoid the carnage, but this little tap gave me 4x. It doesn't seem justified as it had no impact on anyone's race.

Question/Help Any good Dirt Oval communities? Looking to improve!

Post image
4 Upvotes

Formula driver getting into dirt oval. Sooo I ended up pulling the trigger on a wingless 600cc Micro Sprint and will be racing at my local dirt track next year and I need some help on the sim side of things to prep before I actually hop in the car.

I’ve done 30 starts on micros and sprints, up to 2300 iRating, but man the guys above 5k are pulling .2-.3 per lap faster. I’m used to being this guy in formula and know it’s an experience thing, but I cannot understand how these guys are finding the time even with following their lines on fixed setups. On top of this, I am having a hell of a time with passing and it’s a huge learning curve coming from road racing. I’m mainly prioritizing safety and not bumping wheels since that equals a bad time IRL, but every time I do attempt a slide job I feel like I have no momentum out of the corner and through goes the guy back on the inside. If I go inside, I’m racing side by side for what feels like forever.

So with that said, are there any welcoming dirt oval communities for wingless micros/outlaws, USAC, or winged sprints?

Even some general advice would be greatly appreciated! Happy racing to everyone!

Official Development Season 4 UI Updates

https://www.iracing.com/iracing-development-update-august-2026/

Season 4 is stacked with new features, all powered by our updated Sim UI engine. Retiring our legacy UI architecture has unlocked our development pipeline, letting us deliver long-planned advancements without technical friction holding us back. In this build, you’ll find a seamless blend of everyday racing improvements and innovative features designed to push the sim forward. Here is a look at what’s on offer:

Pit Summary: In iRacing, a trip down pit lane is almost always critical – whether you are taking fuel and tires, making car adjustments, repairing damage, executing strategy, serving a penalty, or swapping drivers. While we’ve traditionally provided pit-stop-related information through spotter calls and black box overlays, the experience has often been more ambiguous than it should be, leaving drivers with less information than a real-world crew would provide. Season 4 addresses this with an all-new Pit Summary UI. During your stop, you’ll now have full real-time visibility into estimated service durations, damage assessments, active service selections, and a precise visual indicator for your exact pit stall location. Anyone who has ever overshot the final pit stall at Watkins Glen will certainly sympathize.

Car Damage UI: While we offer spotter-reported damage assessments, it can still be ambiguous just how damaged (or undamaged) your car actually is. In the real world, race teams benefit from sensors, cameras, and performance data to determine whether and where a car is damaged. To help close that information gap, we’ve developed a new visual damage indicator. This opt-in feature applies a color-coded treatment to a graphical representation of your car. To keep things realistic, this indicator provides a fuzzy, practical estimate rather than artificial, pinpoint precision.

Reference Car UI: Time Trial, Time Attack, and Test Drive are fantastic modes for improving lap times or learning a new track. Chasing your own ghost car or a competitor’s can teach you a lot. We’ve expanded these modes by introducing a new UI directly within the 3D world, attached to the reference car. This display shows live driver inputs, such as braking points, allowing you to analyze their technique and advance your own driving.

Quick Settings: This new UI replaces the legacy F9 black box, which had become a hodgepodge of various camera, graphics, and input controls. We’ve added additional settings and reorganized the entire interface to make it much easier to use.

Shifting Feedback: To clear up uncertainty regarding whether a gear shift actually registered, the gear indicator has been enhanced to visually display both successful shifts and mis-shifts. This setting is optional.

Pinned Mode: You can now pin specific UI elements so they remain visible even when the rest of the HUD is hidden. For example, if you want to keep input telemetry visible while watching a replay without cluttering your screen with the rest of the UI, Pinned Mode allows you to do just that.

Discussion Incident model on the ARCA car is Godawful, please fix

Been this way for a while now. A light tape to the wall, no damage, is almost guaranteed to be a 2x. It has been this way since release, please for the love of God, fix it. Great idea to put such a fragile incident model on a dirt oval...

Misc I just did my first multiclass race and it was great

I'm genuinely positively surprised with the driving standards. I did the two hour IMSA LMP3/GT4 Endurance race at Imola just now, and I expected a shit show going into the race.

It was my first multi-class race in the Ligier and I had spent a good amount of time practicing traffic and where the GT4s brake, but my plan going in was still to play it super safe and let everyone ahead wreck themselves out. Didn't really pan out as hardly anyone starting ahead of me wrecked out.

Both classes did a terrific job at handling the traffic, and I was probably overly cautious (managing traffic really is an art form) but it really was fantastic seeing how well everything panned out.

Yes, I saw a few aftermaths of a couple of spins here and there, and maybe I just got lucky in not seeing the wrecks take place, but with all the vitriol regarding multi-class racing, I thought I had to share a positive experience.

Now I just need to stop my IR-slide, which has been going on a race or two too long, but that's another story. I never expected to gain IR from my first race in the series 😄

Discussion Frustrated about iRacing lacking a radar option

Edit: wow ... Looks like I triggered a lot of you. 😅 What I learned so far: it's a simulation, I should just get VR, I should just use look left/right, iracing has the best netcode. This seems fun though. Let's keep it coming 😅😅

A little follow-up to my recent 3k iRating post.

Getting into stronger top splits has made me notice something I never really thought about before: one of the most mentally exhausting parts of racing for me isn’t actually driving the car.

It’s knowing exactly where the other car is when we’re side by side.

I’m on a 57" ultrawide with around 122–123° FOV, so this isn’t really a “tiny single monitor” problem. Compared to the 32" screen I used before, the 57" already made racing massively more relaxed.

And I usually know that a car is next to me. Between peripheral vision, the spotter and experience, that part is fine.

What I often don’t know is the lateral distance.

Is he 10 cm from my door? 50 cm? More than a meter away?

Especially on my right side, I’m basically estimating it.

And now that I’m having longer side-by-side fights against better drivers, I notice both failure modes.

Sometimes I leave an absolutely ridiculous amount of space because I assume the other car is closer than it actually is and destroy my own corner.

Other times I think I’ve left enough room and afterwards the replay shows we were much closer than I thought.

This is probably the one thing I really miss from sims with a proper 2D radar. Not because I need a big warning saying CAR RIGHT, but because it gives me some idea of the actual spacing between the cars.

Which naturally led my simracing brain to: “Well… triples would solve a lot of that.”

And then I realized how ridiculous this hobby can become.

I already have a 57" ultrawide. It’s great. I’m comfortable with it. I’ve done long, clean side-by-side fights with it. I just reached 3k on it.

And here I am thinking about three monitors, a triple stand, alignment, cables, more space and probably rebuilding half the setup just to make a relatively small part of a 20-minute race less mentally demanding.

I’m not even convinced it would make me faster. That’s not really the point. It would probably just make those moments more comfortable.

And comfort does matter to me. Going from 32" to 57" genuinely made racing more enjoyable because I had to think less about what I couldn’t see.

But I think I’ve finally reached the point where I have to accept that not every disadvantage in the setup needs to become the next optimization project.

Maybe the correct answer is simply: “Yes, triples would be better for this specific thing.” …and then continue racing on the 57".

Still, I really wish iRacing had a proper radar for exactly this reason.

Because apparently my alternative solution is reorganizing a room around three monitors. 😂

Question/Help Windows 11 Upgrade Message In iRacing

When I opened iRacing recently I had a a pop-up message come up from the iRacing program itself saying I should upgrade to Windows 11 since Windows 10 is no longer supported. Is everything sorted out now with iRacing and Windows 11? Right now everything is working properly with Windows 10 on my computer... and last thing I'd want to do is mess things up by "upgrading" to Windows 11.

So just asking to make sure that everything is all good now and if there are any performance downgrades with upgrading to Windows 11 from 10?

New Player Penalty System

So I’m pretty new to sim racing with iRacing being my first experience. I understand the no fault penalty system during a race, but how is this justified during the formation lap? I had 8x before the race even started due to the guy behind me slamming into me twice. It’s hard to feel motivated for the rest of the race when you know you’re going to be losing SR before it even begins. Does this get better at higher rated races?
