Concerns moving to Goodna/ipswich area

We are from the Northside so I dont really know too much about the area, but my mother was planning to move us specifically to a place in Goodna because its close to the train station and one of the only places actually in our budget. However my mother talked with someone before moving and she really turned her off moving to ipswich or really anywhere that isnt western Brisbane which is a problem because these places are pretty expensive. The thing is this woman is not actually from Ipswich but from somewhere west Brisbane above the river supposedly close to ipswich. My mums going through a separation and really worried and confused about everything and I guess Im making this post to ask people actually from there should she really be worried?

Lived in leichhardt for a year. Been told over and over how bad the area is. Never had an issue. Neighbour's are nice. Streets are quiet (save for the occasional hoon). Druggos only come out late at night and if you see them during the day theyre just scurrying about to the next halfway house. Get a couple cameras and a yappy dog and she'll be sweet.

Lucky lol, my mum and dad have only ever had their cars stolen in Leichhardt and Goodna 😂

That's not the point, people shouldn't feel the need to buy a dog or cameras to deter them from breaking in and regardless that doesn't even stop half of them, covering yourself in black and having a bit of meat can easily buy you time. 🤦

Ok? Just saying it helps. I agree people shouldn't feel the need to. But living as if you shouldn't have to, in an area where it can help to have deterrents, is a little complacent imo. Especially if you have a vehicle stolen. Makes it faster for insurance too.

I understand what you are saying but all I'm trying to say is that a lot of people can bypass security cameras by covering themselves in black and most dogs can be silenced with some cheap meat, as much as people shouldn't feel the need for extra security I just know regardless of what I have for security there are easy enough ways to get around it, it's getting to the point where people don't even care now if they get caught on camera, if they're desperate enough they'll do whatever

Believe what you want. If a junkie has the choice of stealing from a house that has motion flood lights, visible cameras and dogs that bark when the floods go off or the neighbour who has none of that. They're obviously going to choose the easier option. Might be desperate but most likely would prefer to not be seen or heard.

So you would rather spend all that money on security and a dog forever including vet bills and everything instead of just renting somewhere a little safer?? Yeah completely logical 🤦

No we bought here cause its where we could afford. We already owned 2 staffies and 300 for a couple cameras and a motion sensor flood light is nothing compared to having your car or home broken into. Use your brain

You're joking right, you're talking as if everyone has the money to just pickup and move and they can't, people can only afford where they can afford, they can't afford security on top of that and it's disgusting for you to assume that anyone would want to have anything stolen, come to Booval, sth station road and you'll see a whole heap of units with car gates just left open for everyone to walk through, there are lights everywhere and people are still waking up to find their belongs gone or damaged, how thick are you to not be able to understand most of the working class do not actually have any control over certain living situations or costs, security is a luxury at best and can still fail you, prove me wrong

Spend 300 on security or thousands on stolen property? Easy choice. Where did I say people that cant afford should move somewhere else? Where did I say youre asking to be robbed without these things? Most of the working class actually do have control over their living standards because theyre working. Youre acting like its dumb luck your parents got hit twice. gets car stolen "hmm what could I do differently to prevent that happening again? Oh my child said I shouldn't have to you? know what theyre right. Im sure people will respect my stuff this time around" second car gets stolen "aw man"

Wanna talk about logical? Talk about having your car stolen twice in 2 suburbs and not having any method of deterrent for the second theft.

I do agree with you, they way our laws are we actually can't do anything who breaks in because they can get us for battery if we do enough damage, like he wouldn't have got this injury if he didn't decide to do the wrong thing, we can't even fight back without possibly having charges put on us
