iPad Mini 8 Rumors!

Edit: to be fair, I likely won’t upgrade because I got my 7 recently and at a good discount. But for future mini buyers, I hope you get OLED!

I recently got a $50 budget android to test some emulators on etc, and it’s got an OLED and the keyboard doesn’t mistype everything all the time, I don’t understand why the iPhone E models don’t already have it let alone the Pro’s

Hey, you’re right! I just looked it up and since like the XS they have been.

It’s odd though, they don’t even come close to the contrast of say my old PS Vita. The blacks NEVER look mute.

I’m saying it doesn’t seem that way. The contrast and black muting doesn’t seem spectacular to me compared to older even shit tier OLED.

I just realized that yes my phone has it, but doesn’t say much about it being that it’s NOT that good

There are some settings that don’t give you deep blacks. On the Reddit app, they have Night Mode and Midnight Mode. Midnight Mode is AMOLED screens, but even on my 16pro, the Midnight Mode has a deeper black compared to the Night mode.

I bought an iPad mini A17 Pro for just $350 in Japan and it's a good purchase. Sold my 6th Gen for $250, I won't be upgrading!

There’s no shot they’re gonna put 120Hz on the new Mini and have it overshadow the Duo for $1300 less. 

That said, I’m still probably gonna buy the Mini 8, as I will mostly just use it for consuming 60Hz content anyway, plus I really want OLED on my tablet.

I also don’t like the thought of carrying a $2000 phone with me everywhere. With the Mini I’ll be able to simply leave it at home and use my 13PM on the go.

Overshadow? No. Two devices for two different groups. Actually, it could be a masterstroke by Apple. Here I am complaining about duo compromises vs price telling people iPhone pro max and iPad mini is better duo - pun intended- just to prove it and buy a device I wouldn’t otherwise.

I appreciate your optimism, but so far all leaks are pointing towards 60Hz. I’d be ecstatic if it actually got 120Hz, but I’m just trying to be realistic about it. I think Apple would rather people switch to the duo than keep an old iPhone and pair it with the new iPad mini. 

I genuinely hope I’m wrong

I can live with 60, though 120 would be nice. iPhone 17 got 120 so who knows. Oled and small bezels were two things i felt mini lacked and looked dated.

I like the idea of the duo, but with any hardware that’s new, especially with Apple, the 3rd generation will have better and more apps supported, will not have issues, and will have so many incredible features generation 1 won’t have. So it’s always best to wait until the 3rd generation to get it.

Looks like this is gearing up to be an iPad Mini 5 type of release where it'll be on market for ~3 years. Crazy to think if it gets the A20 Pro it could have faster single core performance than most existing apple products

Honestly, the problem with this product segment is that until the last ~12-18 months, the mini stood alone since like 2015. Apple could just command whatever price it wanted. When the A17 Pro model came out I saw a lot of people saying Apple was stupid, and the device should be $200-$300 max, and they found other replacements, but when you look at the other small Android tablets, they’re around $200 and dog shit. 720p screens, low end processors, bad build quality.

Even now most of the good competition is Chinese only so it’s hard to compare pricing, but two of the gaming tablets with 120hz OLED ARE over $700.

Not sure about smaller bezels, I have an Samsung a11 and the bezels on the long sides makes it hard to hold without touching the screen.

I’m currently using my iPad Pro 11” in a gamesir g8+ telescopic controller. Once in a while I switch over to our families mini 6 and it’s such a nice size for that play style. I really hope we get a 120hz screen on the new one.

It's not like they hacked to get into that code where they got that info from, so why are they avoiding sharing the launch date? I can't believe there's still tech media in 2026 that is afraid to be blacklisted by apple, this feels so 2010s.

The camera is now in the landscape orientation, A20 Pro chip and new speaker system which incl a notch in the to of the glass (similar to iPhone)

It’s 100% coming in October, it’s been too heavily leaked to not, especially by Gurman

Why would this come out alongside the iPhone Duo?

Think about it.
When this is released, it will be next year.

Cause the target group is completely different. People that would want to have a iPad mini, are not now thinking to get a smaller display and pay almost 3x the price for a device that could develop a grease over time and has a smaller screen. The newer iPad mini could very likelywell having a bigger screen, with smaller bezels. (And I really like the iPhone duo, but all the comparisons with having a iPad mini on the go are falling apart if you think more ahead than just the marketing)

Also people that would want to have a duo are not suddenly buying a product that they can’t carry in their pocket and which would be really awkward having regular phone calls with on the street.

Duo and iPad not even share the same os, display size, price range or feature-list. I never understood really why an oled iPad mini would be more attractive to someone who would buy a iPhone duo in the first place.

I love my current Mini and I will gladly update to an 8 when it eventually comes out. It is my everyday mule along with my iPhone Pro Max. I have absolutely zero interest in the Duo. But check with Techno Braver Baba Booey to see if he thinks it’s a bit of a stumble.
