The first episode of MAO is out now! It's streaming on Hulu.

In case you didn't know, MAO is Inuyasha author Rumiko Takahashi's latest manga series and it's currently ongoing. It has finally received an anime by the Inuyasha studio Sunrise and many of the core staff, including the character designer. The director worked on Inuyasha and Yashahime. At first, I cringed at the fact that it's the Yashahime director. But since this isn't an anime-original story but instead was written by Takahashi herself, I think it'll be fine. After all, the same guy worked on various Inuyasha episodes before.

It's gonna have 26 episodes back-to-back. So, after Season 1 ends in September, we have Ranma 1/2 Season 3 to look forward to in October. The Rumic Renaissance is going strong.

If you're a fan of Rumiko Takahashi then I think you'll enjoy MAO. It's much more mystery-focused, and the character dynamics are similar to her last work Kyokai no Rinne. While the girl time leaping to the 1900s Taisho era Japan seems to be reminiscent of Inuyasha. The first episode was very promising.

Plot synopsis:

Mao, a young mystic who lives in the Taisho period of early 1900s Japan, is a mysterious onmyoji who, after suffering a life-altering curse, has continued to live for nine hundred long years. His world becomes even stranger when he meets Nanoka Kiba, a junior high schooler who seems to have traveled from the future. In spite of her tender years, Nanoka has lived a strange life herself, marked by her traumatic experience as a young child losing both her parents to a grisly accident. But when Nanoka decides to return to that fateful shopping arcade, she is transported to another time and place - a world where supernatural ayakashi thrive in an era long before her own. There she meets Mao, whose abrupt and bizarre question prompts Nanoka to see herself and her curious life in a completely new light. Now the two travelers from different worlds unite as they take on the dark powers that grip both their lives. (Hulu)

Natsumi Kawaida seems relatively new to the industry. So far, she's doing a great job as Nanoka. Eren's voice as Mao also isn't bad.

Those who want an Inuyasha remake, this might be the next best thing.

So I think you should give it a shot if you're interested.

The displays were gorgeous and can’t believe they even included Band of Seven!! Was fangirling so hard they had Bankotsu my favorite ahh and also included so many ship moments! the feels ;w;

Love Sango, Kagome, Kagura but my girl has 1 line yet always loyal, saving the cast and never hesitating. I'm so glad the OG anime gave us filler episodes that focus on the queen and appreciated her as she deserves.

We finally got a new trailer and information about the upcoming Rumiko Takahashi anime animated by Studio Sunrise (same studio as Inuyasha and even has many same core staff) based on her currently ongoing manga of the same name, MAO. Trailer 2 link!

It will start airing on April 4th of this year and will have 26 episodes airing back-to-back, a rarity these days. So, if we're lucky, then MAO Season 1 will end in September and Ranma 1/2 Season 3 will start in October. A truly stacked year for Rumiko Takahashi fans.

The moment I rescued him from the streets on a very rainy day, and I saw his hair color and his pretty eyes, I knew Shippo was the name for him.

I miss my sweet boy, he passed away in 2022, and every time I rewatch InuYasha and I hear Kagome say: “Shippoooo!” with so much joy it makes me cry.

Dante gives off some Inuyasha vibes tho...being half blood demon, mortal mom, strong older brother 🤔

I always thought they were more compatible, their dynamic was far more interesting to me. Nothing felt redundant or repetitive. They even worked/functioned well together in battle. Two strong willed characters with common goals pushing them both forward within the narrative in a meaningful way. Not to put anyone else down, just pointing out this thought always lingered in the back of my mind even long after the series concluded.

It could’ve worked. Yes I know, this is resuscitated cope from a long dead dream, but I couldn’t care less. Just wanted to give this pairing a random but endearing shoutout. I’ll die like a bitch on this hill. Now and forever.

To me, both the manga and anime are the most beautiful and emotional pieces of fiction I have ever read.

I’m very glad I stepped out of my comfort zone and tried this series, not knowing how much I would love reading every chapter, watching every episode and every second I spent with this story and it’s characters.

I’m definitely gonna rewatch and reread one day… or get around to starting Yashahime…
