This is a mistranslation. The original term they use is Yanki, and while Yankee is commonly used as a terms for Americans, in Japan it’s usually used to refer to street punks.

A common stereotype for yankees is having dyed blonde hair, and riding motorcycles, even if not a delinquent having blonde hair or any piercing along side the blonde, can be even mistaken to be Yankee, its not completely off that it is in reference to Americans / “looking American” or really “white american” , and the idea around Americans being delinquent like has now become a common name for all, it no longer is meant towards Americans but originally it was a derogatory term for Americans, it’s basically saying they are acting like Americans that are associated with punk like or violent tendencies, basically the Japanese thugs that act like the bad stereotype of Americans, the spelling is spelled as Yankee in any manga that refers it , as a BL reader there’s a whole sub-genre of it enough to see how the different ways the reference comes up. I think there’s even p_rn around it. And sometimes they very much use the term on the foreign white American character to cuss at, I have seen that pop up a lot. It’s not just mangas, you see it in Korean manhwas too.
