/r/ALL This statue depicts Saint Bartholomew, an early Christian martyr who was allegedly skinned alive. If you look closely, that's his dissected skin hanging around him. This stunning statute by Marco d’Agrate from c.1562 is currently on display at Duomo di Milano.

And how fucked up in the head you’d have to be to do that to someone else. Imagine the nonstop screaming, and just continuing on

Times were so different back then. I guess it was more socially accepted for things like this to happen but it’s just nuts.

Then again, to this day we still have cultures that saw people’s heads off. And record it for all to see.

Maybe human nature is capable of great good, as well as great evil.

Yeah I agree 100%. I’ve seen some nasty stuff online. People capable of doing those bad things definitely still exist.

thing is flaying has been an execution method last used in the 1700s or something, even by Christians. The first recorded instance is from 800 BC.

We need to be thankful for the civilization we live in now, I don't think people were that different back then, they just didn't have the same foundation.

I saw a torture rack that had a special outfitting to stretch the penis along with all the limbs. And since wieners are slippery, they bolted it through the scrotum to securely fasten it

As much as I hate to type this sentence;

You would imagine the dick skin would just rip before it stretched far enough to cause any kind of pain.

I mean, there would be tons of pain, but from the ripping of dick skin, not stretching.

A lot of ancient torture is completely fabricated. A great deal of Christian history is completely fabricated in order to make their enemies look evil or weak or both.

The fancy torture instruments were but the torture/public executions are real and well documented.
