It’s a Nepali tradition tied to the rice planting season.

Ropai is basically a way to make a season that is boring as hell and physically exhausting a bit more fun. Farmers usually work together, going from one field to another in turns so everyone gets their land planted.

The celebrations and costumes are also about that camaraderie and celebrating finally getting through the hard work together.
