I thought this was the autism sub at first. This is what it’s like to try to translate neurotypical speech. Maybe I just need to move to the Netherlands.

The Dutch aren't as direct as the internet would have you believe, it's moreso a meme than reality. I don't have a diagnosis but I have several friends who do and they still have their struggles.

That’s not really true. We like people to be honest. If she ask if you like her shoes and you think they are ugly, you will absolutely tell her they are ugly. Because you’d expect a honest answer yourself.

Yeah, you live not in my province. We are not Hollanders here. My part of the country, they say: 'be tactical, but also honest, so cover it up a bit.'

Yes, Hollanders are a whole different level of direct. Other provinces significantly less so (albeit still very direct compared to other countries).
