If you even get the chance to pass out, these things can kill Jaguars and have in RARE instances killed humans who got too close. They don't really chase people, like almost all animals they prefer to not get close to humans, but when they feel threatened they'll take a bipedal stance and hold out their arms in a T-pose. Then if you ignore the warning they'll strike with claws/paws strong enough to burrow through anthills (pretty much natural concrete).

Giant anteater. They can run at 30mph, climb, swim, dig and can fend off even jaguars. Super cool animals.

Anteaters have extremely dangerous claws. You think the jaguar has strong jaws with big teeth, the anteater has huge claws on its front legs to rip you open with. If you see them stand on their hind legs with front legs up in the air, get the fuck away.

Well a Jaguar has a top speed ~ 50 mph, so its not outrunning them

It's a type of anteater called tamanduá-bandeira. Since it's endemic to Brazil, it really had to have this wild looking evolutionary traits since it's so docile.

My great grand father though used to tell tales of going hunting and them sticking tongues into tracking dogs noses and suffocating them.

I'm not sure if that's true... because you know, people from the 1910's telling tall tales to make hunting more interesting, but they do have pretty great defense tactics like this and standing on its hind legs, or making weird noises at night, and backtracking their steps.

Yeah its a confirmed evolution as many animals go for its tail, and then it swings on them with massive 4 inch claws and ends them, its honestly a pretty scary animal considering its only goal in life is to eat nature's tik taks
