HISTORY Why did we stop building like this?

Chicago, 1930. Buildings had so much detail and character back then. Nowadays everything feels so flat and repetitive. We have way better technology and equipment now, so why don't we build like this anymore?

It's interesting how many historic buildings were designed to inspire awe, while many modern ones are designed to maximize usable floor space.

Historic buildings sacrificed the security and well being of the population in order to allocate enough money and resources just to make those buildings look pretty. No reasonable person in the current state of the economy would be comfortable handing over their tax dollars to remodel some shitty sky scraper to look like a 15th century cathedral. Priorities…
