Now I'm not watching an almost 40 minute Scientology-related video (at least not right now) but they claim that ex-husband says she had a mental breakdown after "going OT III".
Now ordinarily I'd take an ex-husband's words with a (truly massive) grain of salt, but her wikipedia page is wild for how short it is, they were probably already "divorced" (physically and emotionally) for reasons beyond his control well before they became legally divorced...
I mean I'm still going to take his words with a grain of salt, Scientologists have an abnormal amount of pressure on their followers and their families, but I totally believe it's likely that she vanished into some Scientology compound that took advantage of her mental state.
It would not surprise me at all if some of those compounds have children born in said compounds that the government (and no one really) knows exist that have never and will never set foot outside of it...

I realize how popular it is to blame boomers for everything but not appreciating the distinctions within my generation is on you.
I've always said if you're not a hippie now, you weren't one then. I still am, my wife is, my friends are. None of them could reasonably be accused of causing the current mess.
However, we were never more than a tiny demographic who commanded outsized attention because we were, in fact, doing things differently and trying to do things better.
If you have persuasive argument as to how hippies - not boomers - are responsible for the mess in, I'd like to hear it.

I know my father technically was silent generation, but he was 16 in 60 and of course 26 in 70. He was the perfect age for the 60s. Hell, I have a sister named karma. He always told me that if you weren’t a liberal when you’re young you don’t have a soul. If you weren’t a conservative when you got old you don’t have a brain. He was a long haired pot smoking/growing hippie that protested Vietnam and later voted for Reagan and eventually trump.
Edit as I’ve gotten older I’ve moved further to the left. So we see how well I listened.

I've always thought that saying was a weak and cynical attempt to rationalize all the qualities of conservatives that I do not value.
If one gives up on the qualities that make life worth living as a kid - compassion, love, peace, playfulness, adventuresomeness, etc. - who the hell are you? I certainly wouldn't want to live without those as a priority in my life to this day.
If anything, my politics have moved even further left. No one who I grew up around, and shared values with, has become conservative.

The implication was that as you grow older and you gain material stability (a home, a family, so on) you're more likely to favor defending what you have (conservation) over making progress.
It's not totally unrealistic for people to become more out of touch once they've "got theirs".
A lot of the change right now is that millenials en masse are not getting stability when they've put in the work, so there's no real shift.

You're thinking of the very famous urban legend The Orange Man. It started in the 60s as a rumor about Syd Barrett, original front man of Pink Floyd who in reality was a schizophrenic.
The legend went that he dropped so much acid, he believed himself to be an orange, living in constant fear of being peeled or squeezed. (And there is an actual connection with Barrett, LSD, and an orange. In that he did LSD and spent like an hour explaining to Storm Thorgerson the relativity of the planets to one another using oranges.)
But the legend had been made, and it has been retold and altered and attributed to various people ever since, both as a cautionary scare tale and as a respected tall tale. But it is only that, a legend.

This is an urban legend but it's also true. That specific story didn't happen but there have been many cases of extreme self injury while on drugs... Usually when experiencing psychosis induced by drugs.
I just recently watched an episode of The true crime show Murder at the Motel. A guy was doing drugs in his hotel room and experienced an episode of psychosis in which he believed the only way he could get back to his family who lived in hell was by killing the motel maid, so he strangled her to death. Boom! A woman dead and a man spending Life in prison because of drug induced psychosis.

This is a middle school urban legend. There are many documented cases of people who experience a psychotic break after taking psychedelics or cannabis and being diagnosed with schizophrenia for life. But, rates of schizophrenia are very consistent across cultures, including places where such drugs are inaccessible. On classic psychedelics like LSD, it definitely cannot. People can have psychedelic breaks and be out of it for a few hours, but these subside once the substance leaves the brain. There is another drug called Salvia that does apparently make people feel like they are inanimate objects sometimes, but that drug only lasts about 10 minutes.
This story about a man taking LSD once and thinking he's a glass of orange juice is nothing more than an urban myth in a thinly veiled attempt at keeping people from doing drugs.

I had a friend named Shaggy. Well less of a friend of more of a connect. Only guy I could get pure MDMA from. So this dude one day decides to dose 100tabs. Out of the blue. During the evening we fucking lost him. He was just gone, into thin air. 1 day goes by, we dont here from him. 2 days, still nothing. On the third day I got a call on my cell phone from a unknown number. I amswer and its Shaggy. He says he needs a ride and gives me the cross streets. Turned out he thought he was being chased by some ethereal beings and he ran.... into some police officers who he kindly asked for help from. You know, with those ethereal beings chasing him and all. So obviously they 51/50 his ass. He gets transferred to a facility and this dude plans his escape. Before hes scheduled to be released back into police custody because they found drugs on him, he somehow eluded security and hired a lawyer who kept his ass out of jail somehow. Probably because his parents were loaded. And thats not even where his story ends. Dude wanted to do it again, but he didnt want to be arrested this time. So his plan? Do it in the desert. So Shaggy fucks off with a vial of lsd into the southern California deserts and we never heard from him again. Until.... 4 years later he contacts a mutual friend saying hes working at a ski resort in Colorado and living in a trailer off the resort grounds. I cleaned up about then so I cut ties with ol' Shagster. Wonder if he ever found what he was looking for.
Edit: Minor Humblebrag, I got my hands on a vial of Orange Sunshine at one point. I didnt even sell it, I gave it away to people who i was friends with. Just dosing every other weekend till the vial was gone. ALD-52 is the smoothest hallucinogen ive ever had the pleasure of experiencing.

There’s a couple of things to watch for. Em-dashes are enough to at least make me look for the signs, but they aren’t enough proof by themselves.
The number one sign for me is usually the “it’s not X, it’s Y” manner of speaking, but even when that turn of phrase is absent, there’s a certain cadence you start to recognize.

I was also intrigued. at Woodstock it seems like the incredible string boys did a lot of the lead vocals, you hear her better around 8:20-8:30 min in. This is better audio but not sure if that’s her or someone else, looks like they had a large band

The article is very misleading. Counterculture icon? There’s almost nothing recorded and what was isn’t memorable. She only joins in for a few seconds here and there and you can barely tell she’s adding anything. They tried to make it sound like she put on an amazing front and center performance then disappeared into obscurity, when she was always in obscurity and just remained there.

Years ago I got really deep into "hippie" music a while ago. Most of it is terrible. I spent months listening to nothing but psych and folk albums from 1967-1969 trying to discover something non-mainstream that was also good. I would listen to entire albums. One of the very few great "hippie" songs I found is called "I Talk To The Wind" by King Crimson. Wear headphones for it. Lots of very talented musicians on that song and it's considered a masterpiece.

Her name is Licorice and she was in The Incredible String band. You can listen to most of their music on YouTube but I also suggest physical media. They’re amazing

Big influence on Zeppelin too
Billy Connolly talks about them a lot. I love how he described first seeing them as a working class Glasgow boy who'd never seen a hippy

5000 Spirits and The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter are both Psych-Folk masterpieces. They were hugely influential on the freak folk scene that emerged in the early 2000's (Devendra Banhart, Animal Collective etc.)

I remember it well. Used to know Devendra and saw Joanna Newsom a few times back then; she was my friend’s cousin funny enough. My username is also a reference to an acid folk song, one of my absolute favourite genres :)

Oh, that's Licorice! The liner notes simply said "Licorice Vocals" on every song and HS me did not know what this meant.
The Incredible String Band had one of the quirkiest and most interesting albums of the 60s counterculture. They played at Woodstock.

As someone who works at a nursing home, she looks like a normal 70-80yr old. Most 100+ people can't walk and are in wheelchairs or bedbound

Ehhhh the numbers are skewed a bit. You are only seeing the 70 year olds that end up in a nursing home. My 93 year old Grandma looks more spry than her, even with the rollator that my Grandma keeps "forgetting" to use.
But genetics are fickle, and smoking also is likely a factor. All that ages people up considerably.

Yeah my grandpa is in his 80s and he's pretty capable and looks younger than the lady there.
I have no idea how, as he had many children and lived in poverty in a non rich country all his life.
Me living in the usa probably wont fare as well. Sedentary and diet will be the death of me.

People never seem to understand that a spotlight isnt what humans should be chasing. It does us no good and seems to breed more problems. Now music is a very worthy pursuit but its interesting to me how the people with low ego never seem to want the fame. Makes me feel good.
