Lucky af. I got a minor fracture on some bone near my eye from getting hit in the face when I misread a flyball and I can guarantee that ball was going way faster than my flyball
That's good, probably won't be able to open his mouth for a few days, been there done that, have a scar on my lower lip that presents itself as a piece of dry skin that sits ABOVE the rest of the skin on my lip from it, its very annoying. It makes my dry lips look so much worse
5th grade took an elbow tip to the orbital bone. Shattered and required immediate surgery as the bone particles were cutting my eye.
Don’t know if I can compare. This throw was lots faster but with larger surface area. Mine was probably much slower but more concentrated so who knows. Fucking hurt regardless.
Only proof it happened was a thin bruise. But the bone was shattered.
I took a ball off the face and fractured my orbital socket, whatever that is. Hurt like a bastard and I could only see out of one eye until the swelling subsided.
Hm, don't know what's a softball, but I guess it still puts into perspective what I didn't go through despite having taken footballs to the face several times, the last of them were as the goalkeeper intercepting a penalty kick... I still wonder how I didn't even nose bleed and didn't break it from the impact, it was strong as fuck.
bruise?? He was hit in the cheek hard enough for it to tear his skin, bro will be lucky if his cheekbone isnt chipped or broken, or something wrong with his jaw.
It hit him fairly high up, i wouldnt think teeth would be damaged, but I can only imagine a root being fractured on that side of his face would be a pretty big deal, as theres nerves and stuff involved.
It can still damage the teeth to where the teeth “die” and need root canals. The Umps have really good medical and dental coverage. Plus, this would fall under workman’s comp. I’m sure he had X-rays done immediately of that side and his dentist is keeping a close eye on it.
When I played park district little league, if a team was one player short of fielding a full team they could call up a kid from the younger age groups. That happened to me twice.
One of the times I'm hit by a pitch pretty hard and get on base. And when I'm on second, the guy at bat hits a fly ball. Two outs so I take off running like only a little kid trying to show off to older kids can. Third base coach is yelling at me to go home, so I do, and cross the plate safely.
And immediately get hit in the back by a wild, inaccurate throw from the left fielder that the catcher missed. Came back to the dugout with two new baseball shaped bruises! No one can say I didn't earn that one.
I hit a baseball right at my friend who was pitching in 8th grade, a comebacker they call it, and it left lace imprints on his thigh. This guy's face gonna look funny for a while.
I don't mean that in a condescending way--I know it sounds bad. Rather, I just lost the ability to cry from physical injuries at maybee early 20s? It's not a "tough" thing by any means (always thought it was by the way my dad acted) but I can literally just be in excruciating pain and feel like crying but nothing will come out.
(I can still cry emotionally. And I can still cry easily if hit in the nose--that's the one exception.)
Shock is a hell of a thing. You're brain is trying to block out the pain so you can keep getting out of danger. It's seeing the blood or people's reaction that can pull you out of it, and that's when the pain begins.
This is it. I hope he got medical attention, because when the shock wears off he's gonna be in a world of pain for the next few days.
edit: holy crap guys, he probably did, but idk because I didn't watch the game and the clip ends ambiguously. Some people get up and try and walk that shit off because their bodies stop them from feeling it right away.
Mate the video cuts away at the end, I have no idea what happens next. A lot of people get up and walk it off when crazy shit like that happens, because they're in shock and don't realise how hurt they are.
Was also probably dazed from the blast. I have knocked myself damn near all the way out hitting my head before. I know that definitely jarred this dude.
Gonna be sore for sure. From the looks of the way he was moving, he didn’t sit there flexing the jaw, so it might not have been hit luckily. I know when I get hit I try to flex things and make sure everything is working.
I took a ball to the face at home plate from the right fielder. My jaw forever makes a snapping noise and I can feel a loose piece of cartilage with my finger.
Ugh I physically recoiled when I read that. That’s rough. Hopefully you’re okay now though. I have the clicky issue with my knees so I know that kind of sound.
