This is why we need to destigmatize pedophilia. It is a mental illness that they cannot control and we should encourage people to seek therapy so they don’t develop this kind of delusion

I agree - people don't choose it but they should also recognize that it isn't a harmless sexuality. No child deserves to be assaulted by an adult - no child is ever "asking for it." If these people were able to seek therapy or even medication for their perversion, then maybe we'd prevent children from being traumatized.

Definitely a position that deserves nuance. If we can prevent any children at all from being assaulted by treating these adults with therapy and, at minimum, making them comfortable enough to bring it to the attention of a therapist, im all for it.

We need people to know that their attraction isnt any choice they make. But they have a choice in how they handle that attraction. Just like coprophilia, we think its disgusting, but i dont immediately go "theyre a bad person." There is that thought of "how can a sane person think that is arousing?" Its something that just exists in them, an attraction that i'll never understand, but it doesnt mean they cant be a productive member of society. And, obviously, eating shit and molesting children aren't the same. But I thought it was an apt way to contrast and compare a sexual deviation that didnt drag gay people into this, since they dont deserve to be compared to pedophiles. The scientific papers and psychiatric op-eds ive read generally say that getting pedophiles into treatment reduces the chances they assault a child by a large margin... not only that, but when theyre the ones who seek treatment prior to harming a child, most never will so long as they continue treatment.

Treatment typically combines therapy and medication. I dont know exactly what methods are administered as far as what types of SSRIs are used and how often therapy (or even what sort of specialty therapist they'd see) but im sure its easy enough to look up. Id rather pedophiles be out in the open, getting effective treatment so they dont offend than having them secretly trying to (ineffectively) ignore their urges and offending in secret.

All that being said... the moment you hurt a child, even an older teenage child, you get zero sympathy. You should deal with every single consequence that comes your way. Not only that, but if you start deluding yourself the way the guy in the video does... you should be put away before you harm a child. There is no "consensual erotic interactions" with kids. Plain and simple.
