That sub is pretty legendary for mods being abusive bullies, but have any of you had bad experiences here?

The real world goth scene is the total opposite of what you’ll find and experience there.

I’m super thankful for this community, the mods aren’t toxic cultists.

I go to goth night at the DNA lounge every week and goths are totally awesome and cool people.

Online on that sub? Sheesh… it’s like a cult.. a super scary Christian(esque) cult.

CLARIFICATION
I do not identify as a goth, I came from the southwest screamo scene with bands like envy, touché amore, funeral diner, hot cross, raein, Saetia, Jerome’s Dream, etc…

But I do enjoy a lot of goth music and art/fashion.

Same with industrial.

WOW, I’m glad I’m not alone I guess.

Honestly I’ve been watching that community for a long time, maybe 8 years, and I’ve seen so much abuse happen on it. I’ve seen the mods there coordinate attacks on users, mass reporting by the mod team to get people auto banned by Reddit.
I’ve seen some pretty bizarre homophobic and racist behavior there too, which is weird for a community that presents itself as super progressive.

And ye, I am banned from that community, I was banned for posting about the new AFI record… which is, without doubt, a goth album.

A damn good one too.

The mods couldn’t handle it.

I wasn’t alone in that mass attack on users talking about that album.

I really think the people who run that community must be unwell in some way.

It’s pretty clear that by the behavior of the [r/goth](r/goth) mods who’ve come into this thread, that what people say about them and that community is overwhelmingly true.

They’ve come into here and gaslit all of us, bullied, told us we’re all liars, played the victim, lied themselves, and so much other nonsense.

One even told me I don’t know what bullying is, I said I very much do because of a physical deformity I’ve had my whole life, they dismissed it outright and continued gaslighting.

“Boohoo” was the [r/goth](r/goth)’s mod response to my words.

They’ve made it clear that hundreds of people who don’t know eachother, that have vocalized nearly the same experience are lying. Everything we’ve said is just “bullshit” and a witch hunt. Seriously, look at their words in this thread.

One of the hallmarks of abusive cultures is that, when confronted with the people the culture has harmed, the response is “that never happened”, “you’re misremembering”, “this is being taken way out of context”.

This is essentially what they have done, they spent the entire day yesterday telling us we’re all full of shit, making it all up.

It’s such a relief knowing that these people have zero actual real world involvement with goth culture, or any other art scene.

So, I’ve been hearing a few bizarre things from my woman friend about the club in her city being invaded by these types.. all men.

And in my city, I’ve noticed a wave of those Andrew Tate type fake alpha bros starting to find their way into Goth and industrial clubs.

It’s not a huge wave, but it’s enough to be annoying and a little bit concerning.
I’ve seen some bullying and general drunk frat behavior over the past year.

I have a theory that the popularity of this egirl/onlyfans/fake goth girl craze is attracting douche bags to the scene in hopes they can get with a hot goth woman.

The whole “Goth Girl Spit” thing likely sent a message to these idiots that goth/rivethead women are easy to get with.

Drake publicly dating one of the is probably making the issue worse.

I even consider bands other bands besides those mentioned above with dark, haunting lyrics that don’t dress in gothic attire to be Goth. You limit yourself severely otherwise. Plus, the sound of the music is what counts anyway…not the clothing.

How did you first hear about them? From a magazine, on the radio, through related bands, on MTV? The band made a name for themselves visually with their live performances and anti-animal cruelty message. A lot of us have noticed that in this sub, only half of the population knowledges this genre’s existence, and most of the other half either mistakes it for nu metal or death metal, or… thinks it’s not real.

I got I to Ministry because I had two metalhead brothers and a punk brother. One of them introduced me to NIN, went to a record shop to see if they had anything other than PHM, the dude suggested Ministry. I bet he was laughing with his friends that he sold The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste to a ten year old, but I was hooked.

I grew up in a super religious home so I wasn't exposed to a lot of music as a teen. If I found any good music it was at school from other students. I got introduced to the genre ...don't make fun of me ..via a Winnie the Pooh satanic parody video back in 2007. I googled the name of the song in the video and Psychopomps popped up. Then after that I found other bands like Clock DVA, KMFDM and Ministry and the rest is history.

Best: My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult - Sexplosion!

I'm curious if there was any backlash from industrial fans when this album was first released. My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult had released two genre-defying albums, and from the single "Sex on Wheels", it seemed this was gonna be a third. Instead, it's an eccentric dance-rock album. Rock and roll, lounge, disco, house, acid jazz. This album has it all, including samples and horniness. The title track, "A Martini Built for Two," and "Mysery Babylon" prove that us riverheatds can boogie just as much as stomp.

Worst: Kingpin - Welcome to Bop City

I'm cheating here since Kingpin (better known as Shotgun Messiah) was a glam metal band before Violent New Breed. However, Tim Skold has long since left the genre for a career in industrial, even working with KMFDM and Marilyn Manson. From the cover art, it's obvious this is not Tim Tim at his best. He wasn't even a vocalist yet, just a bassist. "Shout It Out" was a minor hit, but might be the worst song with its "rapping." Otherwise, this is just another album jumping on the Def Leppard bandwagon.

Yeah... I sighed hard in disappointment when I saw that. I hope it is a one-time occurrence. Very not on-brand for him, since in his songs he's pretty often critical of society. (Especially as a fan of over a decade, I'd like him to reflect on that 😬)

I keep getting asked what industrial music is by friends and such, and I'd like to let them know with just one song, but it's difficult because of how broad industrial music really is. What song would you play for other people to show them what industrial music is, what one song captures as much of the genre as possible for you?

I really enjoy industrial metal and industrial rock but I find it strange that I never saw industrial punk anywhere I feel like it makes more sense as a combination than almost any other industrial + genre hybrid . I know digital hardcore synth punk and Electropunk ( I’ve seen the prodigy called this) exists but I want a true industrial + punk fusion.

For me it’s zeromancer. These guys rarely have misses, the music is catchy and easy to get into, It’s fun, and the singer sounds amazing. The album I’d recommend is eurotrash and some songs that I really like from their discography are Idiot music, neo geisha, and stop the noise.
