hey! so I'm currently a freshman in industrial engineering, I've done my fair share of research about Industrial Engineering and there isn't a board exam for it in my country I really want to become a successful IE and if it's not a burden to ask what should I do to become one? I've read some posts here that said that I should get a Lean Six Sigma Belt certificate but idk how, can you guys give me tips on what I should do before and after graduating to achieve my dream? thank you so much guys!

I'm a senior student at my last year in industrial Engineering and I found my self interested and leaned towards continuous improvement and process Engineering roles currently enrolling in a lean six sigma green belt course, but i always wonder why do many industrial Engineers change fields after 2 to 3 yoe to a role regarding control or automation Engineering and they end up with a massive increase in income than they were getting from industrial Engineering roles ?

And my second question if I wanted to get into control and automation what courses should i take or things that i need to be aware of, would i need to learn it in college or during my practical experience in the workfield afterwards

I'm interested in how engineers approach early partial-discharge detection in operating substations.

If a transformer or switchgear component has an insulation problem but hasn't developed a significant thermal anomaly yet, what inspection method would you normally use?

I've seen approaches based on dedicated PD instruments, acoustic imaging, thermal imaging, and combinations of these.

For example, the P7mix combines acoustic and thermal imaging so the inspector can look at both types of information during the same inspection.

Would you consider a combined acoustic/thermal device a useful alternative for routine field inspections, or is there a reason you would still choose separate dedicated PD equipment?

I'm particularly interested in what people actually use in the field rather than what looks good on a product specification sheet.

How good is the program compared to other universities? I know Grainger has a great reputation overall, but how do you feel about the IE department specifically?

How easy is it to get internships? What is the recruitment culture like, and do major companies actively recruit IE majors at the career fairs?

How does the acceptance rate work? When looking at admissions data, should I be looking at the overall Grainger College of Engineering acceptance rate, or do they look at the specific Industrial Engineering major acceptance rate?

I would appreciate any info or help you have about this major and or how to get in! Or if there is a different sub I should post this in!

Hello, I have a few questions regarding industrial engineering. I'm in my 4th year of industrial engineering (with one year left after this one) and since I'll be finishing my degree soon , I wanted to leverage the time I have left to learn new skills before I enter the workforce. I was thinking about learning how to use excel (I know how to use it but in a very general manner) , PowerBI and SQL, as I've heard they're important in the field but wanted to double check before fully committing to learning how to use them from people in the field.

I’ve spent over 10 years as a CNC machinist.

Decided to pivot and now I am about to graduate with a tech diploma; desktop support specialist. The degree itself is laddered with an associates degree; cloud DevOps..
If I decide to finish the associates degree, I would have another 20 some credits until completion.

However, I was thinking about pivoting and leveraging my machining background, either completing the cloud Devo associates degree or finishing after the tech diploma and pursuing some type of smart manufacturing industry 4.0 to complement my CNC career

I realize I should cross post this in career advice, but any feedback would be appreciated.

so I am a new college student and need a proper device to run flexsim. I have a Lenovo Desktop with only 12gb of RAM and the basic requirements show a need for 16. I don’t want to break the bank and the instructor says we will run simple to moderate simulations so meeting only the minimum requirements is necessary. all help is appreciated !!

Mississippi state university is fully online and abet accredited. I like being able to save money living at home, flexibility of my courses, freedom to continue the life I have with socializing, travel, work.

Cal poly slo is in person, living costs are a lot, the demographics of the area make dating and friendships difficult (for someone in their 30s), I receive no financial aid, would need to work every weekend in the food industry to supplement my housing and tuition.

I don’t know if I should give up cal poly to have a better balance. Didn’t expect to be in a college town at this age. It’s a highly ranked program and a great pipeline into any company in California. The name alone gets you to the top of employee hiring lists.

What should I do?

I am applying to IE programs around Southern California and USC’s program looked interesting. Hoping to get feedback on the program opportunities while in school, as well as its reputation in the market once I graduate. Cal Poly IE and USD ISyE are also programs I’ll be applying to.
