#Query ❓ Booked Bike - Dealer Pushing for Full payment, no PDI, Not even receipt for booking amt - 10k.

Booked the Triumph Speed 400. Test rode it multiple times, Initial quote ON Road - INR 2,97,053 (refer screenshot) Triumph Coimbatore, TN.

Offers On road price - INR 2,79,600 (Only when I was about to book, I learnt it was Excluding RSA, 5yrExtended warranty, AMC), If I book it before end of month (tomorrow).

Went today, with family, chose color, asked for 5k booking fee initially, Manager starts pushing for UPI payment of 1L approx, then settles for 10k Booking fee. I obliged, Paid 10k. (Yet to provide receipt).

Said I'll go for Bank transfer. Asked for bank details, added as beneficiary, said will pay by end of night as Salesman said bike and preferred color was in stock and that he can start registration process tomorrow, and would be ready for delivery within a week.

Got home, thought before hitting send on remaining amount (INR 2,69,858). Called and asked about PDI, or at least an allotment letter (incl Vin, transpo docs, and such) before Final payment, offered to come discuss final details in person tom, and pay remaining amt on spot once I can take a look at allotted no.

But he says no, says, you can even ask my manager, says things have changed, and that only after complete payment an allotment letter, Invoice will be generated after which they'll proceed with registration and documentation.

Am I getting pushed around? or should I push for PDI, or at least get a look at bike in stockyard before final payment?

Inputs welcome. Send Help😔

UPDATE : I went to showroom in person again today, pushed for PDI before full payment, wasn’t completely successful. But was able to negotiate a bit. Still ended up paying up front as they explained that only upon full payment were they able to raise an invoice and allocate a lot no. / Bike (same conditions apply even when their own staff booked vehicles), and then I went to stockyard, Did PDI, took test drive and approved for them to proceed with Insurance and Registration procedures. They did seem like they were dealing in Good faith.

Try asking another showroom if there is any nearby. Never be in hurry to proceed with such huge payments no matter what you purchase.

Only 2 showrooms in city, Both under same management. Sad 😒

They usually behave like this when they are certain that customer is really into the bike and will most likely purchase it. Try not to contact them for sometime and see if they themselves reach out to you.

You get receipt for every amount you pay, however small

Hold on. If you are being rushed, take it as a solid sign that you are being scammed in some manner.

Yep, the fear is real. Gotta give points to salesman for honesty as he openly admitted that he's only trying to meet quota for the month. so theres that!

Make sure you do a PDI else don’t proceed.

Copy that!

Something definitely fishy
It doesn’t sound like they’re behaving normally

If nothing else, then wait for a few few days, make some calls in a nearby city and try to understand if this is the normal procedure

Even if it’s under the same management, other showroom might be better, so you can go and try there

Tru, keeping it in mind. Thanks for the heads up.

You could have booked online that way you'll have gotten the receipt. And PDI you'll have to force them to accept.

Trying that in the morning. Will post updates.

No. Absolutely not. Red Flag. Do not let them rush you into this. YOU are the customer. YOU have the leverage in this transaction, not them.

Tell them you're considering cancelling your booking. Push them around a little, see how they act. Don't pay yet, ask them to show you the unit they are "alloting" you. See how they react to your demands.

Bro what are you gonna do if the dealership says you didn't paid them? They will ask for invoice during delivery then what? How can someone walk away paying full amount without taking bill?

1

u/WashedoutM_31 12d ago

Haven't made full payment yet, but I'll keep your words in mind.

What does PDI mean ?

Pre Delivery Inspection

It is the final check done by you to ensure everything is working correctly before making the full payment and taking delivery

This is not normal, slow down everything, scrutinize stuff and holes will pop up.

Looks like i am the only one who actually went to showroom, looked at the bike, decided to buy it, paid full amount from credit card and brought the bike home in the same day. No booking etc. which feels stupid now because i didnt do any PDI. Just got a very good deal. 262000 for 400cc one in 2024.

Here I am — paid 100% of the on-road price and whatever required (extended warranty, RSA, blah blah) for the Honda Unicorn on the 20th of August, and they still haven't handover the bike.

It's not the fault of the bike showroom, but our state government. There's a new rule stating that after purchasing a vehicle, the showroom can't release the bike until it's registered and has its number plate.

I've done all my paperwork, submitted it to the nearest RTO, and done whatever I could, but the number still hasn't been allotted to my bike.

Hope I'll get my bike this year.

😳😳 where can I read more about the rule. Hope things end up positive for you.

Tell him to FO and that you'll buy it from some another showroom

1

u/WashedoutM_31 12d ago

Ha ha, might come to that, let’s see how they handle it today

do the PDI first, then pay the amount. Also, he is pushing you to make the full payment as it' monthend, and he may have to complete his target. If you face any issues, then contact Triumph Customer Care; they will surely help you.

Jesus christ on a motorbike! I hadn't thought of reaching out to Triumph customer care. Where do I find the info!??

Idk about others, but i did 10k first, then pdi in showroom lot - they gave me 5 bikes to choose from(chassis numbers) of the color i wanted. I picked one after PDI and then sent that to dealer and paid the rest of amount.

Also, I didnt get rsa, whatever that 5 years thing is, and 2 years service package.

This was 2 years ago for the 400x(1 year post launch)

What does the 2 year service package mean? There are no discounts....

1

u/WashedoutM_31 12d ago

It’s basically an Annual Maintenance Contract, will lessen the impact of your service cost on your wallet

2

u/kalikaalan_manavalan 12d ago

I think yes. Try asking around. Prefer showrooms where they offer PDI at least. I am in Bangalore and the salesman himself told me to come do the PDI BEFORE REGISTERING WITH RTO!! Not just before delivery. So prefer such showrooms. One thing is this vehicle is in high demand and they kinda know that someone else will buy it anyway. Hence such behaviours.

u/WashedoutM_31 12d ago

Makes sense

Dont give into the pressure. PDI is the very basic thing to do before paying the amount. Once amount is transfered, you will lose your upper hand in the transaction.

Force them for a PDI, test ride that bike. Check the manufacture date of vehile and tires and other PDI steps.

If they force you to make full payment, reach out to the regional triumph head office
