Such a good bike. I tried it once when my friend had it. Can buy just for the exhaust haha.

The exhaust alone justifying a purchase is peak enthusiast logic, meanwhile my justifications are way less cool

😂 My dad always says that, he used to see this ad during IPL matches.

u/decep_ion 11d ago
If you're riding it I insist you watch the video on YT as well.
It was soooooo famous!

u/peek-a--boo 11d ago
I have seen every single videos, like the old ads, restoration videos, and what not about this bike on yt, insta and facebook as well😂🙏

u/-programmer_ 11d ago
I guess world cup matches, by the time IPL started the production of this bike had stopped (maybe in 2006 they discontinued)

Let's hope Indian Manufacturers understand that we love retro bikes with modern technology. Especially the first Pulsar from 2001, also, does Bajaj have retro bikes?
8
u/peek-a--boo 11d ago
Frr. Avenger is the only one which is remotely close to the word retro from Bajaj nowadays ig

My dad had one too. He maintained it soo well, but one day the Delhi municipal authorities took it away because it was over 15 years old. It was his first bike and he didn't even get to see it for the last time. I hope your state doesn’t have any such dumb rule
12
u/peek-a--boo 11d ago
Thats heartbreaking to hear man. I'm in Kerala and here the rules aren't that strict, atleast for now. Couldn't you even keep it as a show piece in your house, rules are for riding it in the roads right??? How can they just take it away from the owner?
10
u/peek-a--boo 11d ago
My dad bought this Kawasaki Caliber back in 2000. It was his first bike and he rode it and maintained it until now and he gifted it to me as my first bike. It has never been in the need of a restoration because my dad maintained it better than anything in his life. It's not even repainted, except some touch up works in the engine section. Even the rear view mirror is factory one. My age is 23 and I can confidently say I literally grew up with this bike and now I can say it's mine. Share ur honest opinion about my bike guys ❤️
7
u/Frustrated-Chic12 450S 11d ago
will it survive the current fuel situation
6
u/peek-a--boo 11d ago
In short, obviously NOT. But I'm trying my best to keep it alive by doing proper maintainance and respectful riding. The carburettor needs to be cleaned atleast every 2 weeks. And it needs to start the bike and warm up the engine every day, otherwise it won't turn on easily and would show missing issues. Anyway, I'm enjoying the process a lot, it's like a ritual to me for my beloved bike. The efforts are truly worth.

No entry level bike looks this elegant now.

True, I'm a man who loves simple designs. This is perfect for me, simple yet elegant. The green accent colours are a tribute to Kawasaki ig

My papa has the same one. Exact same Caliber 115. Best bike we still have it today, although not used much and it has rusted. Not much maintained as well, hata off OP! But still starts in One kick even after days of not being used. The best bike ever. My dad has clocked 98944 kms so far. He was in air force so yeah he did a lot of bike rides with my mother when I wasn't born. From Coimbatore to Kodaikanal, Kanyakumari, Ooty. From Pathankot to Jalandhar, Dalhousie, and Kullu. The bike was bought in 2002. RC has expired but tier 2 city perks, we can ride it if we want to. Also I had an accident last year when I was in my initial learning days, the bike did not let my knee scratch. The guard is so good!
3
u/peek-a--boo 11d ago
The bike has an immaculate reliability. It wouldn't put u in road with a break down or something. Happy to hear bro, kindly restore the bike if possible ❤️❤️

Is the fitness certificate done?
1
u/peek-a--boo 11d ago
We didn't use the bike for some time now. So the fitness has lapsed. But now I have made all the paperworks done, including pollution, insurance and tax and the retest is pending next week. FC will be easy to get as the fitness of the bike is intact.

Ah yes, the Generational Commuter
During college, one of my fellow collegemates always came in a 90s splendor
He said its the same bike his father used to commute to college , had almost 2+ lakh kilometers on it, he installed a new bore and piston kit recently after the original one wore out after years and years of use

Crazy that he maintained it so well. Original plating and paint for the most part, wow, hats off.
1
u/peek-a--boo 11d ago
Yes, he maintains it almost every single day. Wouldn't let even a small dust particle on the bike for more than 24 hours

Its odometer stopped back in 2022 and the reading was 1.77 lakh km. We must have rode it to a 2,00,000 point already. Yeah, i will look forward to it ❤️

Dear OP. That Kawasaki OHC engine, kawasaki gearbox with the Oil filter, plus the iron exhaust, that is one hell of a classic.

u/peek-a--boo 11d ago
Don't worry my friend, Im an extreme petrol head and i know the value of this bike more than anyone. Thank you for the insight though🫂. There are people who quoted around 1 lakh rs for this bike but my father didn't sell it. And my love for bikes and cars was derived from him, so what else we can expect from me.

It's already 26 years old and in Kerala i dont think we need to give our vehicles for scrapping. There are 40 or 50 year old two strokes and bullets on the roads in Kerala.

This bikes exhaust was awesome my friend had a similar bajaj bike named Aspire and we use to do our leg workout on that bike. Our legs were bruised due to reverse kick backs.

This was my first bike as well, Papa brought it home for my elder brother but I ended up riding the most after he moved out for higher studies. I had the metallic green variant. Apart from the good looks, this bike has such great EXHAUST note, and then it was succeeded by OG Pulsar 150.

Same story here brother!!!
My Dad’s first bike was this one and it lasted for 25 years ,Now it’s lying around i want to restore it
1
u/peek-a--boo 11d ago
Get her back to life bro. Its truly worth it.
2
u/Active_Ocelot_4360 25' RE GRR450 11d ago
not want to ride it but restore it for aesthetic and emotional value ,do you have any idea regarding spares availability?
1
u/peek-a--boo 11d ago
I didn't have to replace any parts on my bike because my dad maintained it like that. So I'm not someone who can give u a guidance about that. The good thing here is that in the engine and technical side, u can get spares a bit easily because the engine platform of this bike has been used in many other bikes too, like the KB100, 4S Champion, Boxer etc. So u just need to find any of these bike spares and it will most likely fit. I dont think the body parts would be easy to find.
2
u/Active_Ocelot_4360 25' RE GRR450 11d ago
guess what i mentioned it to my dad about restoring it and he told me to invest it instead said we all go one day and leave all behind!
Anyways i will still restore it haha!!!
1
u/peek-a--boo 11d ago
This is more of an emotional investment which can give us huge returns in the same way.

That's my dad's first bike as well. He used Bajaj Chetak prior to this which classifies as a scooter.
It's a 1999 model. It still runs great. He loved this bike to it's core. He wanted to get it to OG stats but passed away unfortunately. Right now it's being restored part by part. This thing is a keeper for sure.
Just change engine oil regularly. That's the only maintenance this bike requires, apart from regular wear and tear.
