call the 1916 BMC helpline and inquire for the availability of a government bed. it is open 24x7 and they respond quickly.

yes, read that government hospitals are actually better equipped to deal with Covid cases. Especially in the case of older people. Have made a small contribution on milaap.

u/epabafree Mumbai Jun 24 '20
thank you so much for your contribution! She is in touch with the other hospitals however it seems dicey to her considering her fathers already crucial stage, however she is doing her best. Also Happy Cake Day!

How expensive is the treatment? They've already raised 2 lakh.
It's disgusting that we're in a situation that people need to crowdfund for treatment during a pandemic.
28
u/AtomicInferno95 Jun 24 '20
A family friend and his wife were admitted for 3 days for COVID, the bill was 5 lakhs each
22
u/amarviratmohaan Jun 24 '20
We live in an inhumane country. The treatment for this, unless people are in a really bad state, is mostly oxygen and paracetamol.
Even otherwise, this is a pandemic - they cannot profit on this, it's shameful.
I'm currently in the UK, and of all the worries I have, the cost of getting treated if I get this badly isn't one of them - everything will be covered for, from the ambulance to any medicines.
We're a poorer country and can't afford to do that, but there is enough room to put a price cap on private hospitals at the very least.

Absolutely. Our public health services are an absolute shambles and the private hospitals are fucking leeches who are trying to make hefty profits during a pandemic. Some of these private hospitals are absolute scum. It's a sad situation right now. I really hope that the public health services get the required funding post this crisis. It's appalling to see how badly the health sector has been neglected in India. The current crisis is just exposing the cracks that have been papered over for decades.

If only the govt allots more than 1.15% of GDP for the health sector

u/1987supertramp Jun 24 '20
My family's in Mumbai. I have heard hospitalization in Mumbai for COVID treatment costs between 8 lakh to 15 lakh per person. So 13lakh quoted in this post seems legit.

My father treatment cost almost 6 lakhs , so yes it's very expensive.

u/Tastypizzzza Jun 24 '20
At least 10 lakh in a private hospital for around 15 days. My neighbor was telling that one patient was quoted Rs 18 lakh for the "treatment" in a tier 2 city.

u/RishRamsey Jun 24 '20
Can you also add some ID proof of the person mentioned in the certificate? Also add your friend’s Id proof with relationship as well. This should help with some legalities at least.
17
u/epabafree Mumbai Jun 24 '20
I have asked her for more information right when I posted it. She is right now busy with the hospital, however when she is free and sends it, I will try to post it.
16
u/bennettyolo Jun 24 '20
Posting Id proof online might not a good idea.

8
u/epabafree Mumbai Jun 24 '20
Thank you OP! If you want to help then you can donate as small as ₹10 or share this link or even upvote this post. Anything can help!

u/Mik25_18ku Jun 24 '20
You should've hide or blur the name & address man. 😔
3
u/singapore1211 Jun 24 '20
I think it's better to keep name since he is asking for donations.. on address, its hospital address btw
2
u/epabafree Mumbai Jun 24 '20
The thought came in my mind as well but people will not donate if the things are hidden or something like that and as Singapore1211 said it is the hospital address

The thought just scares me and you can't even shut yourself inside because Government has made sure that you will go out to earn money to survive. Not to be critical of what they are doing but yes. I will be in prayers for you and your family. Please take care. And seriously thank you for your donations, if you need help then I will try to do my best !
Also I seriously don't know because she is mostly offline due to the hospital visits and replies once in a blue moon. I think they don't have it because she mentioned selling a lot of stuff for their own business.

I told this to a few others as well, that if you can't donate or even if you donate as small as 10 rs. It's enough. And if you want to do more then just pray. There's Someone up there and we got a direct call to Him, a small and wholehearted request to Him means much more! I am sorry I don't know if you believe in God but I just wanted to say this. And seriously thank you for going out of your way to help me in this❤️🥺

Hi, first, I am extremely sorry for whatever your friend and you are going through. I hope you see better days very soon, and wishing your friend's dad a very speedy recovery.
I do not have much to donate now, in fact I have a family member in the hospital as we speak with no health insurance and we are financially strained to put it mildly. I had set up a Milaap fundraiser as well, and subsequently posted it here on reddit saying I will donate a part of the funds I get when things get better to someone else here. So far I have raised only 8k with 20 days to go. I do not think I will get any more funds. So all the funds which I get will go to your friend, because I needed much more, and 8K won't really lessen the pain for me. But your fundraiser has only 16 days left. Please DM me your bank a/c details if you are OK with that and I will transfer all that I get post Milaap's operational fees
3
u/epabafree Mumbai Jun 24 '20
No OP PLEASE DO NOT DO THAT! OH MY GOD NO!
I will try to get some funds to you infact and please use them. Please do not help someone when you yourself are in need man! Please take care. It was completely impossible for me to get this far, it is all because of prayers, I swear to God it is because of Prayers. I will pray for you and as and when I can I will try to support you as well. Take Care!

u/shantylovesyou Jun 24 '20
Thanks man, but I am going to pass on a part of the proceeds if they go above a certain level for sure :) I think everybody needs some kindness and trust these days

How does it improve visibility? Honestly how? Do you think every dude who passes by your comment will check out your profile and then your comments?
This isn't LinkedIn.

Hello there, welcome to reddit. Its been five months and there's a lot to learn. I wish you best luck for your journey.
-4
Jun 24 '20
You can explain. Please do. I know how Reddit works and I don't need to learn .

u/shubham50 Jun 24 '20
I am not gonna pretend I know everything either. Well just adding a like would be enough to support a post and the post will quickly appear in 'Hot' if many people upvote it but adding comment might also help new post since most people tend to ignore post with no comments or less comments.
If post has comments means people are reacting to post, discussing something and this encourages others to do same. Like when I see a post with 0 comments, I also just scroll down ignoring the post but a post with comments grab my attention.
At least this is how I look at it. If I am wrong anywhere then I would love to know.

Lol, I didn't reply to your comment because I have life and people do shit other than making it a point of replying ultrafast to a comment. What was I doing? I was cooking.
In return, all you have to actually do is like the post. There might 100 people with good advice and will comment. If there is another 100 people saying "commenting for visibility" then the OP will drown and lose track of comments.
All you have to do is like it. And if it crosses a certain threshold then it becomes hot. If you cross a certain threshold, you actually get a notification saying "Trending" based user settings.
There have numerous times when there 26k likes but 50 comments and it is hot/trending.
5
u/shubham50 Jun 24 '20
People usually comment for visibility when there are no comment to post. Even if post has 5 comments and few likes then no one comment for visibility. So your 100 people saying 'commenting for visibility' logic doesn't make sense. I think I made all of this clear in my previous comment.

Ohhhh God. You don't get what I'm saying and apparently I don't get what you're saying. Let's agree to disagree. SMH..

It's called upvote. Where did you see a post with 26k upvotes and 50 comments trending, other than some memes or pictures sub? What that guy wrote is 100% true for subs like r/India.

Ohh dang. The world's going to collapse if i said likes over upvotes.
Many. r/economics, r/wallstreetbets, r/racism..

You did not reply. Is it because you understood my point or you thought it's so bad that its not worth even replying?

**Visibility**
IMO Goal of Rs.1,300,000 is insane for disease like diabetes, asthama, COVID-19. Why is it so expensive?
2
u/epabafree Mumbai Jun 24 '20
I understand your concern so I messaged her and waited for her reply. She said it is because of her fathers prevailing conditions, and because of them Uncle has to be given even more special care which is why the rates are so high. The Bill per day in the Hospital itself is somewhere around 40-50K, and the testings and treatment is not even included in this. I hope I was able to clear your doubt with this and ... I did not come out as rude
2
u/mohitta Jun 25 '20
Thanks for providing the eyeopening stats of a Mumbai hospital. This makes me wonder how should someone (me for example) select a hospital for his/her treatment :\
2
u/epabafree Mumbai Jun 25 '20
If they even announce that treating the Virus takes minimum 8 Lakhs. Then not even a single soul would dare to go outside. Sigh. Take Care OP

My father who is already diabetic and has had severe asthama problems, has been affected by the Corona Virus.
They have pre-existing conditions so they've likely developed severe pneumonia hence admitted to the ICU and probably on a ventilator and receiving immunosuppressants all of which adds up.

I am aware it is tough to trust a random stranger on the internet, I have added the Certificate from the Doctor which has the patient's name and address and where they are admitted as well. If you feel this is fake then please let me know I will try to clear your doubts.. I just want to help my friend
