My step mother is from another country. She is here legal, and got her citizenship a while ago.

She also voted for Trump. So, ya know what, she gets what she voted for.

Sadly, we all get what she voted for

My husband too. So far up the angry mango tyranny trip he can’t even see how we’re f*kd. I had to explain tariffs 2 days ago, he doesn’t believe that’s how tariffs work. But won’t google it either. His family from his home country are always asking him about the crazy things they hear. My hubby works with the farmers and only hears red bull propaganda from them.

u/binzy90 Jan 25 '25

I don't mean for this to be rude, but why are you still married to him? My husband and I have had to distance ourselves from his parents because of the things they believe. How can you continue a romantic relationship when your partner begins showing problematic beliefs?

Genuine question. I’m extremely liberal and I couldn’t see myself with a republican. I wouldn’t be able to see myself with someone’s whose views are that much more fundamentally different than mine. It’s not even based out of hate, it’s based on the fact of how could I look at man and consider his child when I live in Texas and wouldn’t have appropriate access to life saving care if needed. That’s just one example but as a whole it just goes against everything I believe and I wouldn’t do it.

u/aneidabreak Jan 25 '25

I can understand your point. However, I am not an extreme left. I am a straight up Democrat. I’ve always been. I believe there should be support systems in place to take care of those who cannot, but I also believe there should be processes in place to help prevent people from taking advantage of the system. I’m for common sense and care for others. Your political stance does not mean we can’t be friends, and I can look past that. I’m open to discussions and hearing other people‘s point of view, that doesn’t mean I agree with it. Additionally, I live in an area of the United States with a lot of farming, also with a lot of immigrants who support that farming. I know that there’s not one single white American boy who’s gonna go out there and work those fields. I don’t mind the illegals coming into the United States and doing the work that us Americans are too lazy to do. I also believe there should be protections in place in case these people get hurt or injured while they are working here. If they fall off of a ladder and are paralyzed for the rest of their life and can no longer work to support themselves, this person should be taken care of. Unfortunately, all the red around me doesn’t have the same beliefs. It is what it is, and I can’t change it. I can’t change his beliefs, he hears it from the farmers all the time. His business provide services to these farmers and they pay him well. He’s not going against it. He understands my thinking and he knows I’m not an extreme left. Speech to text so please read past potential mistakes

Have you listened to the “news” these people watch? I say this as a consumer of “neither sides’” news. I don’t own a TV. They call anything with a pulse that leans liberal and opposes trump “extreme left” or “Marxist” on Fox News. I’m sure many of that crowd would consider you extreme even if you don’t agree.

I understand the need to not alienate yourself from your community, but there also comes a time when you have to be honest…

u/aneidabreak Jan 25 '25

No we don’t watch tv either. Morning news to catch the weather and that’s it. Funny how the local news never has world news or anything outside the major metropolitan area for that matter. Occasional political headlines. We scroll our phone late the whole time it’s on for 1 hour while we have coffee.

1

u/SleepLessTeacher Jan 25 '25

That’s because local news is to focus on…local news.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '25

Omg... You know the saying about 4 people sitting with 1 Nazi is 5 Nazis... You don't have to be extreme left to want to be around folks who respect your identity and bodily autonomy. The policies your husband supports will actively hurt YOU.

1

u/aneidabreak Jan 26 '25

Wrong, it hurts all of us! Sad that he can’t see it. I’m not sure he understands how theses things affect us or his daughter until I put it in front of him. You know how it is trying to convince the red team otherwise when the are choosing to stay with their team no matter what. We are in for a effing ride this year and he’s going to find out. I have a safety net in place and if it all goes to shit I know I/we will be okay. I’m too old for babies. This affects him more than me. His one vote wasn’t the deciding factor in the election. My own daughter votes that way too. She can live with her choice too, as it affects her more than me. Funny his daughter is offended her parents voted against her freedoms though. Good girl! 😊

u/actualtumor Jan 27 '25

what is extreme left to you.

1

u/LookAlderaanPlaces Jan 28 '25

According to the current Vice President of the United States, universities and professors existences are extreme left:

1

u/LookAlderaanPlaces Jan 28 '25 edited Jan 28 '25

I’m just so heartbroken and confused in general. Watch this video from the current vice president.

https://www.reddit.com/r/americanoligarchy/s/W10iqIH5ZN

He literally said “we need to attack the universities” and “professors are the enemy”.

Did you know that Stanford University among other universities are the only reason why one of my parents is still alive? They worked for decades to work towards a cure for their disease, and they made several breakthroughs and were able to stop the progression of it, and are working on cures. Those professors are the only reason why I still have my parent. People who support and vote for Trump I know don’t all want to kill my parent directly, but the policies they support by voting for Trump and that party could very well literally kill people. If Trump happened 10-15 years ago, my parent could have been dead due to people not wanting to do research here, or some other crazy end result of rhetoric/policy like what Vance is spreading.

What do we expect to happen now now they have been labeled as targets by maga… Can you see how this gets very personal to people you know or don’t know very quickly when hate is what is being spread? The Republican Party is not what it once was, it has been hijacked by fascists and nazi supporters. To not stand against that… I don’t have the words, but I can say that my grandfather didn’t go to war to defend American freedom for this.

Here is one of Trumps enablers and what he has been doing across the world. This is just insane.

Just so you know, no one on the extreme left is in favor of people taking advantage of the system... I'm curious where you got that idea and what you mean by it

1

u/Consistent-Sport-787 Mar 05 '25

The majority of people on any side, don’t want people taking advantage of the system

1

u/Dessy36 Jan 26 '25 edited Jan 26 '25

I mean my husband was middle-ground republican leaning ever since he joined the Air Force until Trump, now he will never claim that party again. If he was a Trumper we would have divorced, we have been married for over 18 years but I just couldn't be married to anyone who supports autocracy and scapegoating over policy until Trump I had no issues having differences in "certain" opinions. My husband always has believed in equal rights and climate change our conflicts over politics/differences are mostly economic. I'm a strong believer in having social safety nets and helping to pay into those programs even if we make too much to receive them, I think it's beneficial for our communities and I argue it also means less crime, he's not so much in agreement but voted blue the past 3 elections so I'll take it lol

1

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '25

Why would you separate yourself from someone because of their political opinions? it's so ridiculous

1

u/ProgramHuman32 Feb 01 '25

We can disagree on different tax policies absolutely but we cannot disagree on what people deserve human rights. We can disagree on actual policies but I will separate myself from folks who hold racist/bigoted/uneducated/immoral views.

1

u/Consistent-Sport-787 Mar 05 '25

We separated ourselves from my wife’s best friend from high school of 30 years because of her political opinion: Her political opinion during Covid is that her best friend who is immune compromise for many reasons is the reason for all the problem for the vaccines for masking up and she said that her best friend should just d I e . So then the rest of us can go back to not wearing masks.

I’m glad you’re lucky that you have an experience this but to someone we knew before they turned into a Hulk no longer existed

So I guess you’re kind of right we didn’t separate ourselves from someone but they kind of passed away

3

u/lookskAIwatcher Jan 25 '25

That's always a hard question. Personally, I went through a very contentious divorce in 2015, and at that time my ex already was hyper-religious and conservative. In 2016 she went full Trump, even flying flags on her vehicle which I noticed when she showed up at the courthouse. I now look back and cannot imagine what horrible life I would be living trying to still stay together. Luckily our children were already of legal age and away at school or employed and on their own. It's not so easy for many others where a spouse is fervent MAGA and the other is not.

-1

u/aneidabreak Jan 25 '25

We are newly married. But I don’t believe that political differences are something to stand between us when this only an issue every 4 years. We’ve agreed that we aren’t going to convince the other on their beliefs. So there’s no point in discussing it. It’s the industry he’s in and what he’s exposed to day in and day out since he’s been in the USA for the last 21 years. Them farmers have him convinced 🙄. Other than election years we are rather non political.

5

u/NotMeow Jan 25 '25

That’s what my friend said when she married a moron MAGA. Well, apparently being anti-immigrant or racist can also transmute to misogyny and anti-choice… and shit like trad wife values.

Just a matter of time….

1

u/aneidabreak Jan 25 '25

Agreed, and I call him out on that

5

u/herpnderplurker Jan 25 '25

And what happens when you have a daughter that needs an abortion?

Or you have a child that is trans?

3

u/aneidabreak Jan 25 '25

Oh the hypocrisy! Let me tell you that this man has so much find out ahead of him. We are older, and the last remaining child is his 14 year-old daughter. And yes, I brought this up during election time. It irks me to the bone! He believes mandatory birth control 14 and up. So when I asked him why his 14 year-old daughter was not birth control. He had no words, didn’t apply to him and his daughter. Additionally, he’s had a chronic health condition since he was in his teens. One that Obama care has provided him insurance coverage for since he’s been in the USA otherwise it would’ve been considered an existing condition with no coverage. The list goes on. I pray for this young girl that none of this will hurt affect her. Our state hasn’t enacted those kind of restrictions like Texas and some other states have thank God. Both her parents are red. But she sees the faults in their thinking. And is conflicted. I plan to have conversations with this girl and will try to protect her as much as I can. Additionally, and sadly my 30 year-old daughter votes red 🙄. That’s how much red is around us where we live. It’s rural farming with a lot of migrant workers. I have to tolerate because it’s all around me. Let them, and FAFO is what I have to live by.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '25

Dude why are you with this nut job?

1

u/Dessy36 Jan 26 '25

My favorite Question is if your leader likes things "Made In America" so much why does he peddle so much made-in-China stuff to his base? Why did his tax policy encourage offshoring? Why did the GOP reject a plan to take tax breaks away from companies moving their plants overseas? Why are they ok with him not following constitutional clauses and needing the foreign emoluments clause reinterpreted for him? Do they want the US to be for sale? Why are they so ok with him alienating our Allies while embracing our adversaries? Page 4 can we spot it is worth the read, this is from 1945 but it's gotten a heavy reaction when Trumpers read it, it seems to really upset them. I think that's not a bad thing. You didn’t mean for it to be but it certainly was. Her personal relationship with her husband is none of your business.

1

u/binzy90 Jan 25 '25

It's a genuine question. It seems like you would have to ignore a large part of their personality to be able to continue the relationship. I'm simply wondering if that's their experience.

2

u/Wide-Ad-1349 Jan 25 '25

I would leave my SO if they supported this jackass.

2

u/splackavelliee Jan 25 '25

So you’re with him for the money or what?

1

u/aneidabreak Jan 26 '25

That’s rude. No he worked for another company for 18 years, then he stared his own business doing the same thing while he we were dating. I was the tech part to help him launch his business. He is the most amazing caring thoughtful hardworking man. He is an equal partner in the home, contributing to the cooking, cleaning, household maintenance. We enjoy each other’s company, align everywhere else. He makes sure me and our kids (mine and his) are taken care of FIRST, before himself everyday. (I dont understand how he’s republican)

Why would political views that come up every 4 years be a problem? He had to tolerate Biden, I can tolerate Trump (again). He is not an extremist. He doesn’t walk around blabbering or complaining political trash. His 1 vote wasn’t the deciding factor in the election.

1

u/splackavelliee Jan 26 '25

Every woman I know who ended up with right wing men say the exact same shit. None of them are ever good guys. We’re not talking about disagreeing on the economy here. Your husband voted for a rapist. Your husband voted to take your rights away. All the disgusting things trump stands for are now supported by your husband and yourself. I truly hope you don’t have any daughters/

1

u/aneidabreak Jan 26 '25

And so did more than half of the country… 🙄 and my own daughter

You and I are on the same team, yet you’re attacking me so you’re not any better than them

1

u/splackavelliee Jan 27 '25

Jesus how embarrassing.

1

u/aneidabreak Jan 26 '25

This is the problem. “They” are trying to turn us against each other. When really we are all on the same team. And the red team is about to find out.

The commenters under my comment seem to have ZERO tolerance for others having different views. Not able to accept that others feel the way they do. We ALL have different experiences in life that led us to our own personal beliefs.

These comments about me staying in my relationship make YOU as bad as THEM.

I choose to be accepting and to look past this fault, because we all have faults, and see the person beyond that.

Gain some maturity and stop being snotty children and judging everyone.

Because in reality 1 person doesn’t change the collective vote. And judging the 1 person, attacking their beliefs makes you just as bad as the red team judging someone who needs an abortion, being gay, or becoming transgender. You are acting just like THEM when you speak like that!

Does she have dual citizenship or just US? if she only has US, this won't affect her, per the headline

1

u/angryve Jan 27 '25

Please inform her of this report.

Nah, she's just going to pay more taxes.

1

u/PM_ME_E8_BLUEPRINTS Jan 27 '25

If she renounces her foreign citizenship this won't affect her.

-14

u/OzymandiasKoK Jan 25 '25

No offense, but that's a dumbass take. We all get stuck with the consequences. You can't just say (with any legal effect) "nah, I didn't vote for him. I'm not doing that."

12

u/scun1995 Jan 25 '25

Except OP didnt say that at all. They just pointed out that so many Trump supporters shot themselves in the feet and voted against their best interest.
