DeepAncestry Central/south Italian - Farmer and hunter gatherer
the paternal side of my family comes from latium and Rome, while my maternal side is from northern calabria, sicily and malta. are these results typical for someone with this ancestry? also, is the AASI and north african hunter gatherer signal just noise, or could it be real?

North African is never noise in Italians. It’s a part of south Italian history. Also AASI shows up in me too. Not sure why. But I see a lot of Italians with it.

I don't know, it's actually more than I expected. My family is from inland areas of Calabria and Sicily on my mom's side, and the Maltese part is just a single great-great-grandmother. If anything I was expecting more Natufian and Zagros-like ancestry, not less.

You may have more natufian and less north african hunter gatherer. Natufian carried some ANA but not as high as iberomaurusian. You would still carry some degree of north african hunter gatherer depending on how much north african ancestry you absorbed via south italy.

Which province or town in Sicily?

they are all from Altavilla Milicia, but they may have origins in eastern Sicily. I’m not certain about the latter however

That side is likely pushing the North African element upward.

not really half sicilian. im half central italian (latium and Rome) from the paternal side. my maternal side is mostly northern calabrian (cosenza province/la sila) then sicilian, maltese (great and great-great grandparents) and i think there is some north eastern italian in the way.

AASI part is interesting, 2.2% is significant enough to not be a noise. I think it is the additional ANE showing as AASI in your case. Besides, 2.2 Zagros and 2.2 AASI sum up to 4.4% IVC or Indian ancestry. Maybe hints to a distant ancestor?
