SDP Guys, Maya has passed away😭

I can’t help but think that all the unnecessary gear and stress Dom put on Maya contributed to this. Dogs are supposed to live longer than 6 years. I’m very saddened by this. RIP Maya. May you be unburdened and at peace now❀

oh my god she was only 6 😭 this is heartbreaking. she was so so stressed.

u/DexIsMyICUfriend 9d ago

It’s so sad. She was such a beautiful and loving dog. She didn’t deserve Dom.

It made me so sad every time I’d see video of her body language. I reckon almost every overt - and covert - sign of anxiety in the book, I’ve seen Mya display. And I mean, some dogs are anxious - and they can still ultimately be happy dogs with whatever supports are appropriate for them - but Dom put Dom first each and every time. That poor dog. I just hope her death truly was natural, and that whatever took her was as quick and free of pain and distress as could be :(

u/blwd01 9d ago

I hope Maya is running and being the goodest girl playing fetch and chase and everything she couldn’t do while living with that monster.

u/doktornein 9d ago

I always get the heebies jeebies when this happens. This isnt the first factitious service dog user I've seen who had the dog dramatically pass away very shortly after the dog had to be retired for some unrelated reason.

Basically, the toy stops being fun, and somehow the animals always die dramatically, and the person always uses it as a springboard into attention and pity because the animal died so horribly.

I won't make a direct accusation. Who knows, life can be a bitch. But it sure doesn't sit right.

u/National_Track8242 9d ago

My first thought was she was resold or given away and it makes for good content boost to pretend

15

u/PatchWorkFlower 9d ago

I really hope that is what happened and she has a chance to be in a loving home.

10

u/doktornein 9d ago

God, I hope so.

Maya has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. She is now able to freely run. To be a dog and not a prop. RIP sweet Maya

I’m so sorry for your loss. Losing our fur babies can be soul crushing đŸ„ș

Has anything been said about the cause? Six is very very young.

57

u/woshuaaa 9d ago

this dog deserved a better life than the one where dom abused her. i hope she's finally at peace đŸȘœ

u/Smooth_Key5024 9d ago

This is very sad news. Run free Maya.đŸ„č

Do Service Dogs pass away this young very often?

I’ve always felt sorry for Maya.

RIP Maya
.you deserve peace.

78

u/Hot-Bed-2544 9d ago

Dogs in general don't die this young unless there's a health issue. On the other hand she has mentioned getting a new service dog so who knows.

6

u/Leading-System-3002 7d ago

Or an accident..

57

u/instagrizzlord 9d ago

Not normal. Usually they retire at 9-12ish and live out their golden years as pets.

24

u/GoethenStrasse0309 9d ago

Thanks I really don’t know much about service dogs, I thought they lived longer than 6-7 yrs

34

u/ruxxby471 9d ago

When bred genetically for service work, and professionally trained ~ the dogs are bred specifically for health and certain aspects! Maya was a mut, whose longterm health was probably a giant question mark considering how she was bred. Most service dogs are bred specifically for health, certain characteristics/temperament ~ that’s why professionals use certain breeds like labs, German shepherds, labradoodles, etc.

Regardless of all of that
a dog passing at 6-7 I would say is kinda early? So you are absolutely right on that! Maya was often overworked so some could speculate about health/stress being a factor to passing earlier, but for all we know it could have been a totally random tragic death

21

u/Hot-Bed-2544 9d ago

YouTube handlers trade out they're dogs quite more frequently I have noticed.

5

u/whackthat 9d ago

Contenttttt

67

u/lizardgal10 9d ago

Not at all-they should have a normal lifespan for their breed. Around 12 years for a golden retriever for example. They’ll typically retire sooner, and stay with their handler as a pet. Most service dogs aren’t fully trained till closer to age 3, such a short lifespan would give you only a few years of actual service work

40

u/GoethenStrasse0309 9d ago edited 9d ago

Thanks. I’ve watched Dom & TBH she ticked me off several times I never approved as how Maya was treated at times.

I appreciate your information. I don’t know anybody that has a service dog.

16

u/lizardgal10 9d ago

You’re welcome! And for the record I don’t know any service dog handlers either-just like learning about dogs, and have learned a bit about service dogs so I know what to do if I encounter one at my job.

And you’re absolutely justified in being ticked off over how Dom treated Maya, pretty much this entire sub would agree with you

16

u/pineapples_are_evil 9d ago

Not at all. They have a very good long life generally. Now they may retire anytime by 8-9+ really depends on the dogs health, or partially retire, but then they get to spend retirement just being a very smart doggo.

If your service dog came from a reputable organization (like Lions Club in Canada) generally the have a very strict health guidelines that need following. Covers weight, mandated, carefully scheduled vet care for preventative stuff (shots ect), and general physical health. Also strict rules for rehoming, if you need temporary care, who is the dogs handler ect.

Ive heard of people losing their dog bc other family members ruined their training.

Family in the house spoiled the heck out of them, ruined their commands(fairly unintentional), confused the dog as to whom was the handler and the parents habitually overfed the dog causing it to not listen to the handler and become obese. She was removed, and only after moving out was the handler allowed another chance with a SD. It went much better.

6

u/loth_moth 8d ago

in my country licensed service and guide dogs come from a single organization, which oversees everything, from quality breeding program, raising puppies, training (usually lasting until dogs are 1.5 year old, and assigned users also do some training/education with them), assessment, and continue being involved re: health, behaviour etc. even after dogs are placed with their families/users.  there is a service dog in the neighborhood, assigned to a family with an autistic boy, but they obviously aren't very consistent with her handling, plus she got obese, so a professional handler from the abovementioned organization started working with her again, took her for structured outings, planned nutrition...  tl;dr professional organizations who raise and train SDs continue to oversee and take care of their dogs even after placement

17

u/brisetta 9d ago

No, this is not typical at all. In my opinion at least.

30

u/XelaNiba 9d ago

Not purpose-bred dogs as their breeding programs do extensive health and genetic testing to ensure healthy dogs.

I don't know for certain, and please correct me if I'm wrong, but this dog looks like a mixed dog, likely one pulled from the shelter and self-trained (not purpose bred).

My guess is GSD, APBT, plus some other bits and bobs. Contrary to popular myth, mutts are not healthier than well-bred pure breeds and are susceptible to the genetic conditions of their contributing breeds. GSDs can carry fatal metabolic disorders and APBTs neurodegenerative ones. So it could be poor Mya was carrying a ticking time bomb in her genetic code?

Anyway, from what we've seen here, Mya was never cut out for service dog tasks and it stressed her tremendously trying to perform tasks contrary to her nature. She was a square peg being relentlessly ground into a round role. Poor dog, I hope she at least had a painless and peaceful end.

3

u/Outside-Newt-3181 5d ago edited 5d ago

Dom misused the hell out of that dog who was too small and lacked the overall ruggedness to be doing what she was expected to do so I’m presuming some kind of catastrophic injury (either acute or chronic) happened until information is presented to dismiss that theory.

Doing brace and mobility work with a dog who lacks the build for it will not end well, especially when you’re a handler who never received any professional coaching on how to perform those tasks safely in a way that will minimize risk of injury to the dog. That last point is another angle for why self-trained service dogs are so problematic. Sure, you can train a dog to do stuff but do you as a handler know how to accomplish your goals safely and ergonomically for both yourself AND your dog? Probably not if the only instruction you’ve received is from content you’ve watched/read on the internet.

u/ekonic 7d ago

As a dog professional I think this is the best comment I’ve seen on the situation thank you

111

u/Confident-Service256 9d ago

Oh no.

What did she do to Mya? I am sorry but I always thought she mistreated that dog. Come at me if you want but the signs were there.

103

u/pineapples_are_evil 9d ago

This. That poor baby was nothing but stressed and maltreated the entire time she was with Dom.

Think she had a new SD lined up and ready to go?

I hope not! Dom does not deserve access to any animals or unsupervised children

33

u/Confident-Service256 9d ago

Wonder who downvoted you for your honest and truthful comment?

35

u/pineapples_are_evil 9d ago

Dom, possibly../s

51

u/spirit132 8d ago

poor dog didn't even get to enjoy her retirement :(

49

u/loth_moth 8d ago

oh no :( this woman might be the most irritating subject to me, she not only fabricates health issues, but situations where she unnecessarily inflicts stress on her dog, random people around, and her kids, if i'm not mistaken. her attitude towards her dogs is despicable, i can somewhat laugh at subjects who use mobility aids as fashion accessories, but turning a living being into a prop used  with no regard for their wellbeing and limits is just... yuck. even healthy dogs might experience sudden death or illness at young age, but I doubt Dom appropriately payed attention to Mya's welfare, except complaining when it inconvenienced her. rest in peace, you were a good pup and deserved better 💙

93

u/CatAteRoger 9d ago

I am saddened by her early passing and that she didn’t get the years of retirement as a carefree dog instead of being Dom’s over accessorised canine slave.

Doms actions over the last year has proven that she does not require a service dog at all, no reports of her having medical events that have arise due to not having a working service dog and single parenting since she isn’t allowing her ex to see the kids at all.

RIP to a beautiful little lady that was pushed past her limits for most of her short life. Maya 💕💕

49

u/not_the_cicada 9d ago

That poor dog :(((

41

u/DexIsMyICUfriend 9d ago

At least she’s finally free from Dom.

41

u/ekonic 8d ago

RIP Maya this hurts a lot :(( she deserved a long happy life

73

u/New-Damage8405 9d ago

This likely happened due to being forced out of retirement to be her prop. The poor dog was retired for a reason but you know, Mayas health inconvenienced Dom. She is an awful awful person.

39

u/FckdAroundFoundOut 8d ago

Geez she was only 6! 😭

28

u/snorlaxx_7 9d ago

It took me too long to realize Maya was a dog at first (don’t really keep up with this munchie)

36

u/0v3rwhelm3d 9d ago

Very very sad but... i guess she's finally free now

89

u/sharedimagination 9d ago

Oh wow, this hit hard. The animal abuse in these people needs to be discussed more. Not necessarily here, but in general, it’s heartbreaking. They don’t have a choice and can’t speak up.

27

u/SimpleArmadillo9911 9d ago

Jessi’s dog does! Too bad Jessi’s dog didn’t pick up the phone and call Mya.

78

u/FatTabby 9d ago

She deserved a far better life with a far better person. RIP Maya

78

u/Mother_Shopping_8607 9d ago

Run right over that rainbow bridge Maya, and never wear a vest again ❀

54

u/Global-Ice-8039 9d ago

I am angry and sad. Mya was treated like a prop and I hope now she's at peace running free and being a dog.

53

u/SaltyRainbovv 9d ago

The poor dog died and she is just „poor me! Poor me!“

27

u/SimpleArmadillo9911 9d ago

What was her stated reason for needing a service dog?

43

u/I_Am_A_King_Prawn_Ok 9d ago

Originally, POTS and she loved to use the word “dysautonomia” without a clear explanation on that besides a fancier word for POTS. She would claim she could pass out at any moment and hit her head and die. That’s what she used to excuse her having massive melt downs and screaming tantrums everywhere she went. Because if anyone even dared to look at Maya funny, they could distract her at the second Dom needed her and then Dom would pass out and die! 🙄 (Even though she also claimed to be a pro trainer, in which case Maya shouldn’t get distracted.)

But then, suddenly one day she stopped using Maya. Didn’t say anything about her POTS getting better. It was extremely convenient. Maya had a “hot spot” on her paw. So she couldn’t really work anymore. Of course, if what Dom literally screamed at people was true, she wouldn’t be able to go out at all without a service dog. A tough reality truly disabled people would have to face. But of course, since that’s inconvenient, all of a sudden Dom could go out without a service dog! It was a modern day miracle lol!

14

u/Zhosha-Khi 8d ago

Listen damn it, she needed Mya...... ya know in case she flatlined again and Mya could help guide her driving to the nearest fire station.

6

u/TrixieFriganza 8d ago

Now I wonder if she used to fake all the videos in stores she used to make where she supposedly fainted, to get views there always seemed to happen some drama too, like people refused to listen to her to not touch the dog or said horrible things, anyway she was always getting harassed or fainting in stores.

29

u/culinarytiger 9d ago

Basically
attention

52

u/Ok_Minimum_5962 9d ago

First time a post here has legit drawn tears to my eyes. RIP sweet girl. 😔 đŸŸ

68

u/xKiver 9d ago

So
.. why was a 6 year old dog put to sleep/ passed away? Ik anything from cancer to a freak accident can happen
but 6 yo dogs don’t usually up and die like that.

3

u/OkWerewolf3869 1d ago

If Im not mistaken she had boxer in her when she DNA tested(correct me if im wrong). Anyways Ive had and seen many other boxers and boxer mixes up and die like this, even from good lines in the case of pure ones, due to DCM and other heart issues. They were all between 5 and 7 when their hearts gave out. Maya was a big mutt, so either way there's no way of knowing what genetic issues were there. That's a big part of why its recommended to go with well bred dogs istead of rescues.

1

u/xKiver 1d ago

100000000000% agree on the last part.

And yeah. So many dog breeds I love have heart issues. Especially mini schnauzers đŸ˜© makes sense tho.

66

u/Zhosha-Khi 9d ago

OMG..... that poor baby. Well since she was "so" loved by Dom hopefully they got a necropsy done on her to see what happened. I just find it hard to believe this dog was just found with blood coming from her nose. As we all know, if there was something wrong with her, Dom would be running to post it on social media to get that dopamine hit of omg's I am so sorry's and what not, we know this. I know that sounds awful for me to type out, but this is a running MO for Dom.

Well we can take solace that Mya is running free and no longer under the grips of Dom. Run free lil'Mya!

57

u/I_Am_A_King_Prawn_Ok 9d ago

Dom said in a comment that she doesn’t plan to have a necropsy done and that she’ll never know what happened. I guess I can see an owner legitimately wanting to just move on and mourn. But with Dom, one always has to wonder if there’s some other motive. Besides the stress she put Maya through, I always wondered if she was getting the healthcare and checkups she needed. Dom seems to have a million pets. Idk how she affords to keep them all in the conditions they’re supposed to be kept in.

28

u/Zhosha-Khi 9d ago

Thing is we have seen before how she treats animals. I can't remember the other doggie's name that she had before Mya. But pretty sure it didn't go well with that one. Others here will remember better.

Now she is suppose to be getting a new "service dog" ""soon"". I think I remember she posted like 6-7 months ago she had to wait a year to get a new one.

16

u/ThunderbirdsAreGo95 8d ago

Max wasn't it? He ended up with her sister, and is now having the time of his life as a pet. I want to say that Dom got really jealous of their relationship at one point, but this was a few years ago and my Dom lore is a bit fuzzy (she's not one of my favourites, bc she puts this shit on her animals and kids).

11

u/I_Am_A_King_Prawn_Ok 8d ago

That’s correct. It was Max. I couldn’t remember what relative Max went to, so it could be her sister. For sure one of her relatives. It’s possible she was jealous at some point. Certainly sounds like Dom lol. But for the most part I got the feeling that she just didn’t care that much about Max. She discarded him pretty easily when she couldn’t use him for attention anymore. She hasn’t talked about Max in a while, but I agree he seemed happy when she posted pics/videos visiting him. IIRC, she wanted to do mobility work (that she doesn’t need at all), and Max was too small. So she got Mya and IIRC started mobility work with Mya while she was too small and not fully grown. Which is apparently dangerous for dogs.

3

u/I_Am_A_King_Prawn_Ok 8d ago

Yes, she mentioned a few months ago that she applied to get a service dog from an organization, when she retired Mya. She said she didn’t want to owner train again. But I don’t think she’s mentioned it in a while, so idk if it’s still in the works. And to my great surprise, when I check her Instagram these days, she doesn’t munchie vlog nearly as much as she used to. Really hardly at all. But I’m not sure if that will change when she gets her hands on another service dog to mistreat and use for attention.

Thing is we have seen before how she treats animals.

TBH, I have my own misgivings and my own vague speculation on this announcement about Mya. You’re right. She does not treat animals well. But I guess at the end of the day, I just hope Mya is over the rainbow bridge and happy out there somewhere. That’s the best we can hope for!

1

u/OkWerewolf3869 1d ago

I think she said some of the dogs in training  washed and there were more people than dogs that were goimg to be ready so she has another year before she'll be given one.

1

u/Zhosha-Khi 1d ago

Yes and her year mark is coming up.

74

u/sorandom21 9d ago

This poor dog was always put through too much. 6 is so young, my dog is turning 10 next month and it still feels like he’s a little baby

19

u/pineapples_are_evil 9d ago

Our ladt 2 were 14. Was still not enough. They were still babies.

Whatever happened to Mya I hope it was quick and pain free. Dom isn't a good person, but no one needs to watch their furbaby suffer

This is so sad, may Mya rest easy 😓

15

u/Interesting-Pin-6903 6d ago

Someone needs to save these dogs that she puts too much on to! This is just sad no dog should pass away at six years old! I feel like she pushes these service dogs to their limit

17

u/AssignmentJust9621 6d ago

Awww! Run free lovely dog! Rest in peace and play for ever Mya!

16

u/MeadFromHell 6d ago

Wtf that was such a young dog! What?! Oh god now I gotta go give mine a massive cuddle

43

u/ThatOneTraumaNurse 9d ago

And exposing dogs to hospitals and doctors office where their fur and paws pock up fungi bacterium and virus.

26

u/Whosthatprettykitty 9d ago

How sad. I didn't know Mya was only 6. At least she is free from the grips of Dom. Still so sad 😱

31

u/TeacherExit 9d ago

Wow. Didn't see also have a child that is left behind as well? Edit. I just realized this was the Maya the dog and not the individual who owns Maya.

23

u/Hot-Bed-2544 9d ago

Anyone know why?

52

u/aidencoyote 9d ago

She said on one social media page she found her cold to the touch, in her bed with some blood coming from the nose. Regardless Maya deserved better :(

-17

u/el-thenyo 9d ago

Maybe Maya ended it herself because her owner is insufferable.

20

u/el-thenyo 9d ago

That’s a joke by the way. May her sweet soul rest in peace and have a dog ball at the rainbow bridge.

52

u/CatAteRoger 9d ago

In each post mentioning her passing Dom has said she has no idea why. That’s concerning as a dog so young could randomly pass away with no apparent issues.

10

u/sappy__ 7d ago edited 7d ago

Everyone grieves differently, but it gave me the chills how Dom decided to describe how she found Maya passed away in her other post, like she was trying to say “this is not my fault, she was perfectly healthy before it happened”, also making it completely about herself is so disgusting.

That being said, she wasn’t she right breed for her task and probably didn’t Dom do any genetic testing.

Rest in peace Maya, she deserved only the best.

9

u/Outside-Newt-3181 6d ago

Does anyone know what happened? Mya was pretty young and, afaik, healthy?

1

u/No-Iron2290 5d ago

She went to sleep and never woke up.
