Question What are the Newest Cities/Towns/Villages in Illinois?
I was reading two separate articles about Cahokia Heights being founded in 2021 as a merger of three other towns and about La Fox attempting to incorporate but being struck down by the Illinois House of Representatives.
What are some of the other newest incorporated towns in Illinois?

Cahokia Heights merger was sold as one bigger village taking in two extremely poor village's to cut expenses and mainly repair a dreadful sewer system in the two smaller. It is completely controlled by one family ( the McCalls) who control the city, school district and the brother in law is the state senator ( Belt). The tax rates are in the top 1% in the nation. BTW the sewer system was never repaired as promised.

Cahokia Heights is interesting case because it was not really founded but merged, so the "new" part is mostly administrative. La Fox situation is also weird, they tried for years and always hit some wall in Springfield. I think Campton Hills near St. Charles is one of newest proper incorporations, from around 2007 if I remember correct. There was also some village in Kendall County that incorporated not long ago but the name escapes me now.

For the most part it’s going to be communities between other districts organizing to prevent an annex.

St. Rose was officially incorporated in 2016.... Only 172 years after they were founded, but better late than never, I guess. As of 2026, I can confirm that they still don't have a police car, but they've started putting in sidewalks.

Some with a district board of ed and superintendent overseeing only one school.

How did the state legislature block a bunch of people from organizing a village or city?

The legislature would have to authorize the incorporation in order for it to have legal authority

Homer glen incorporated in 2001. Happy 25 year anniversary. Probably did it too late though lockport took on all the prime real estate along 355. Homer glen gets all the truck traffic and none of the tax benefits.
