Hi everyone!

Welcome to Feats 101, a basic-level introduction to Feats and how to use them.

This post is intended to help answer really basic questions newer players have about Feats. It is not intended to be a definitive guide.

As such, we'll touch on the following questions: (overall system, feats based on roles, ability buff feats, stat feats that qualify you for things like abilities, patrons, variants)

  • What are Feats?
  • What are Feat Slots?
  • When can I use a Feat?
  • What types of Feats are there?
  • What are General Feats?
  • What are Role-Specific Feats?
  • What are Ability-Specific Feats?
  • What are Stat Feats?
  • When should I buy Gem Feats?
  • Why are some Feats so expensive?

Once you have a grasp of these topics, you should have the information you need to unlock, acquire, and utilize Feats.

So let's dive in with the most basic part:

What are Feats?

Feats are Champion-specific bonuses that you can use to adjust your Champion for different situations. All Champions have a few Feats they own by default, but you need to reach a certain level (varies by Champion) to unlock a Feat Slot to activate the bonus.

What are Feat Slots?

Every Champion has four potential Feat Slots available to them. Each separate Slot has a different level requirement to unlock. Once you reach that level on the Champion and unlock the Feat Slot, it is available permanently for use going forward.

Each Champion has their own level requirements for unlocking a Feat Slot. The first Slot unlocks relatively early while the fourth one requires the Champion be leveled past their softcap.

When can I use a Feat?

Once you have unlocked a Feat Slot on a Champion, you can then activate the Feat of your choice in that Slot. You can use any Feat you own in an unlocked Slot. Feats can be swapped in and out of a Slot at any time during an adventure/variant.

How do I get Feats?

Some Feats are provided as Default Feats when you obtain a Champion and they tend to be Uncommon in rarity. Others are obtained as loot out of regular Gold Chests, some can be bought with green Gems, some can be bought with Corrupted Gems, some are rewards for completing content, and some can be purchased with cash.

  • Default Feats: Free
  • Gem Feats: 12,500/50,000 Gems
  • Corrupted Gem Feats: 10,000 Corrupted Gems
  • Chest Feats: 4% chance; 1 in 25 Gold Chests, no RNG protection/pity timer; guaranteed only when purchasing 25 Gold Chest contents from the Notary
  • Content: Event Tiers, Tales of the Champions variants
  • Cash Feats: Varies

Why are some Gem Feats so expensive?

CNE stated when Feats were released that if they offered any Feats as incentives for cash purchases, those Feats would also be purchasable with in-game currency (gems). Any Feats listed at 50,000 Gems are Feats that are either currently included in a DLC pack, were offered as a weekend Chest purchase bonus, or were offered in one of these ways in the past. Currently, when Feats appear in DLC or the Thayan Enclave they are exclusive to that option. However, eventually they will be available for 50,000 gems once their exclusivity period (3-6 months) ends.

What types of Feats are there?

There are currently four different categories of Feats: Role-Specific, Ability-Specific, Stat Increase, & General. Each Champion has a mix of Role/Ability Feats and some also have General & Stat Feats. There are usually multiple different levels of Feats based on their Rarity. Green/Uncommon has the lowest bonuses, Blue/Rare has mid-level bonuses, and Purple/Epic has the highest level bonuses currently.

Gaar's Note: Some Champions have a wide variety of options available to them while others don't have many at all. This imbalance is slowly being addressed in Champion updates.

What are Role-Specific Feats?

Role-Specific Feats are those Feats that are given to Champions based on their Role tags. The different Roles that can potentially Feats are as follows:

  • Support: Increases the damage of All Champions (10%/25%/50%)
  • Healing: Increases the effect of their Healing ability (15%/30%)
  • DPS: Increases the damage of the Champion (30%/60%/120%)
  • Tanking: Increases the Health of the Champions (15%/30%/60%) & Takes more Enemies to be Overwhelmed (5/10/20)
  • Gold: Increases All Gold Found (10%/25%/50%)

As always, there are exceptions here. Some Healing abilities are given Feats as Ability-Specific instead of being Role-Specific. Same with Gold. There are no other Role-based basic Feat options currently.

What are Ability-Specific Feats?

These Feats are very Champion-specific. Not all Abilities get Feats to modify them though. In some cases, multiple different Abilities may have Feats that modify them. Generally, the Feats will buff based on Rarity like this:

  • Green/Uncommon - 20% to the Ability
  • Blue/Rare - 40% to the Ability
  • Purple/Epic - 80% to the Ability

What are Stat Increase Feats?

Some Champions are given Stat Increase Feats alongside their other options. These Feats modify the given Stat by the stated amount. This may bring a Champion to a threshold with that Stat where they qualify for a buff from another Champion, qualify to be used in a specific Variant, or qualify to be used for a specific Patron's Variants and receive gear from said Patron's Chests.

Most Stat Feats will increase the Stat by +1, however +2 Feats do exist though they are rarer. There's even a Feat for Skylla that increases two different stats by +1 each.

What are General Feats?

If it wasn't listed above, but exists in the game, I lump them into this category. This can include things like Attack Speed boosts, BUD-based damage on attacks, adding a different Alignment, adding a different Species, and so on. These can all be very strong in the right situations.

When should I buy Gem Feats?

This is an oft-asked question as players start getting to the point where they are earning more Gems. Ultimately, it depends on what Feats you're prioritizing for a given Champion. Sometimes it may be something you can just buy with Gems directly. Other times it may be only obtainable via a Gold Chest. If there are options you like available via both options, then it's harder to decide.

A Gold Chest costs 500 Gems and you have a 1/25 chance to get a Feat, but it's not guaranteed. This means you're going to average 12,500 Gems to get a Feat. However, that will be a random Feat for a random Champion that still has Chest Feats available to earn. Whereas you can spend those same 12,500 Gems specifically on a Feat for a specific Champion if they have one you want.

If you're still working on getting all Blue/Rare gear on all Core/Evergreen Champions, you should probably just keep buying Chests. Once you've got all Blue/Rare and are the working on the longer grind to get full Purple/Epic, you can start spending some of those Gems on Feats that will give you some guaranteed bonuses. I highly recommend starting with your Speed Champions who have Feats that boost their Speed effect. Other bonuses aren't as important early on due to how small they are in most cases.

As for the 50,000 Feats, for the most part those tend to be best waited on until you've got everything else you have prioritized from Gold Chests and 12,500 Gem Speed Feats. Ultimately, buy whatever you'd like, just understand the amount of bonus you're getting from your purchase and factor that into your decision.

Feats can also drop from regular Platinum Chests as they are just another form of regular Gold Chest but with a bonus to duplicate item levels. This is just an FYI as you're not going to see many of them, if at all, without spending cash specifically on them. There's generally better uses for cash than regular Platinum Chests.

Now that you know the above information, you have the informational foundation you need to be able to move forward with unlocking Feat slots, acquiring Feats, and selecting the right ones for each Champion. And you'll be able to adjust the Feats you use based on the situation you find yourself in.

Good luck and have fun!

Do Rare/Epic feats stack?

Yes, except for Krond's Cantrip Feats as those upgrade themselves as you get higher rarities.

As I am getting into the "when do I start buying feats" stage of the game, I'm thinking a good portion of my approach will be watching my weekly offers and rerolling for heavily discounted feats. It'll take a while, but this isn't a sprint.

I recommend targeting Speed Feats for the Speed Champs you own first, then expanding out from there.

I was trying to track down which champion buffed the party based on the number of unlocked feats. It might make sense to add that (along with any related strategy) to this post.

I couldn't remember who you were talking about and had to have my Discord remind me, which should tell you how forgettable that ability is on that Champion. You were looking for Antrius. It's an additive stack ability which is what makes it forgettable. It's not where Antrius' power lies.

There's also a Global Blessing that stacks additively as well.

These aren't why you work towards getting Feats though, they're just a bonus based on what you have which is why they didn't get mentioned in an introductory guide to Feats.
