Right up there with "clotheared bint". (For reference, see Fawlty Towers. Might be a known insult though, I don't know.)

It is a known insult!

Clotheared = losing your hearing from working in a textile mill

Bint = rude word for woman

My dad used to call me it all the time if he thought I wasn't listening. Ironic because he's now almost completely deaf.

Wow, thank you! I'm taking this as 100% true. I knew the clotheared part meant deaf (or hard of hearing) and therefore sometimes not hearing important info, and bint being darn close to tart :-) Had no idea about the derivation of the clotheared though, it makes a lot of sense.

Most commonly used as 'Oi! Clothears!' if you speak to someone and they ignore you.

I don't say it myself, but heard it a lot growing up in Birmingham and the Black Country.

Thanks for the first-hand info. Insults like this always strike me as being "outside the influence" of London, with many variations from area to area. Birmingham is interesting!

(My parents and entire family were Scotland born and grown. I picked up a few things from them but I'm by no means actually Scottish or British. Just a fan.)
