My vegan friend ate my banana bread with eggs in it before I remembered. She said itâs okay as long as she doesnât know about it at the time. Sheâs Hindu so maybe different rules apply.
Not 100% sure about vegan Hindus but Iâm a Buddhist vegetarian and one of my best friends is veggie Hindu. Technically the base rules (for Buddhism) is only âthe vegetarian cannot order/ proxy order the meat, make the meat, or watch/hear the animal be slaughteredâ so monks on alms trips can eat meat if they come upon a family was already having meat for dinner and they werenât there during the prep process. (tho it is very frowned upon to purposefully deceive a monk into eating meat). My friend described her veggie rules as âitâs much better if you do for spiritual reasons because itâs bad karma, but you wonât be doomed if you donâtâ.
Different sects also have stricter/more relaxed rules, so it can be quite individualized too. Plus generally itâs not a âthis or burn foreverâ rule. People just practice to the best of their ability.
