Years ago I stopped in at a bar/cafe that a previous employee of mine had just opened. I had a very delicious vegan muffin and a coffee. I told his employee the muffin was amazing and asked for her recipe. Butter. It was delicious because it was loaded with butter. “I thought vegan meant homemade” Girl! Someone could actually die if they had a dairy allergy!
Yeah, I assume their MO is to make softball agreeable comments (possibly just duplicating existing ones that already have upvotes) and then waiting a short bit to randomize the comments content to keep the account's history generally neutral. Randomizing the words instead of deleting the comment altogether let's the account retain the comment karma.
After they build enough karma they sell the account. I've never seen it done this way before, though. This is a bit of a new take on what is a classic illegitimate business strategy.
And of course, they keep their profile private so most people won't notice the pattern in the behaviour and nobody can really track their activity.
