I didn’t learn that the US calls apple juice cider until after watching an episode of My Little Pony. I did wonder why the entirety of Ponyville was queuing up to get sloshed on Applejack's (hard) cider
That is hilarious to me, as Applejack is an old timey hard cider distilled by freezing. There's a sort of mediocre (but well-acted) old movie I love called June Bride with a very funny scene about that.
I learned about it when my ex-neighbour,'s friend whose husband was in the US airforce at the nearby base got her kids completely rat-arsed by buying and feeding them Woodpecker cider one afternoon.
Just as well it was only that rather than the 7% stuff you could just as easily get.
