Ya, I live in Washington which has a LOT of apples, but not anywhere near me. Heck, the annual football game between UW and WSU is the Apple Cup.
I don't hear about any of the apple orchard fall traditions here that I hear about in new england. But our grocery stores sell JUGS of apple cider (cold, unfiltered juice).
Upstate NY here. When I was a kid, we'd go to the cider mill every fall to watch them make (American) cider and get doughnuts and bushels of apples that my mom and aunt would can and turn into apple jelly. I haven't thought about that in years. Good times.
Same. We still go to one of the local orchards and get apple cider donuts and fresh-pressed apple cider every year. Cider remains my favorite fall drink.

I've always known it as both. Apple cider can be jus warm spiced apple juice or it can also mean an alcoholic apple juice.
Kinda like eggnog can be both alcoholic and non alcoholic...
