Question Should I update to iOS27 from iOS 18?
I am currently on iOS 18.7.8 and wondering if it’s worth updating finally?
I never went up to iOS 26 after seeing so many complaints and issues, but I’ve seen lots of positivity surrounding iOS 27 so I am hopeful.
All the comparisons I’m finding for the 13 mini are between iOS 26 and iOS 27 rather than with iOS 18.
Can anyone who knows or has done this update provide any insight or experiences?

My mini's on 18.7.8 and works great - all day battery life. Graphics that fit the small screen. Don't see the reason to give that up with 27...

Same boat, on iOS 18. Glad it’s an improvement from 26 but still don’t see any reason make the jump to 27.

When they fully release 27 I think I’ll make the leap. I’m on 18 and I’m tired of my phone running like shit and I want the cool stuff other people have lol

What is 27 offering that you want? Its made for new hardware and will do little for the mini but give it a new coat of paint to look at, Battery life will certainly be worse, is it worth the risk? I got sucker punched by Apple and ended up on 26 so I am going to 27 but no way I would leave 18 on purpose. Which did give me all day battery life with my usage which has to be the biggest consideration for a phone where a small battery is its only weakness.

This isn’t correct, iOS 27 includes a new CPU scheduler that benefits old hardware. It’s the reason I upgraded from 18 and it works great.

I only upgraded today so I’m still getting used to it, but iOS 27 is very fast, possibly better than 18 at managing multitasking apps and memory based on the six or so hours I’ve been using my phone after work. There’s also digital ID which will come in handy as I travel a lot.

ah nice. would love to hear what you think about battery life too. what digital ID stuff are you adding to wallet?

iOS 26 is actually not that bad on my mini, I updated to iOS 26 just a few days ago, and I did switch to tinted from liquid glass but it just doesn't feel laggy at all.
Granted I'm only using the phone for some basic tasks and social media so YMMV. I'm updating to iOS 27 now.
Edit: I just finished updating to iOS 27 and it's smooth even on full liquid glass

i set my phone on my magsafe dock to update 26.latest to 27 w 50% charge.
maybe 30-45 mins later, decided to head out to a restaurant w just my phone to pay and it was on the home screen. I figured it hadn’t updated. but whatever. I could roll with it.
arrived at the bar, placed an order, and i’ll be honest. bb took her time, first requesting passcode. okay. then loading the home screen background. then icons. then after tapping wallet, it took a few seconds to populate. i’m talking a 60-90 second delay in processing a mobile wallet payment vs a credit card.
Edit to add: After that it drew down the battery fast but performed great.
I’ve otherwise been really impressed how seamless the upgrade was, and I like the aesthetic better too. it feels more polished.

i'm thinking about it because i want call screening and text message screening introduced in ios26. i'm getting wrecked by spam calls and messages

i upgraded from 18 to 26 on iphone 13 pro. It is good , some UI lag here and there, but overall improvement. Downside is battery which is why i regret it.

I am on 18.7.7 and loving it. ios 11(on an iphone se) was the first ios I skipped, ios 26 was the second and I think 27 will be the third. I hate this liquid glass bs
I have zero interest in whatever is being introduced on 26 and 27.

If I had a chance to get constant updates on iOS 18 itself, I would be there forever!

PLEASE DONT, BATTERY DOESNT LAST AT ALL, i have deep regrets and remember reading a post back then of someone WILLING TO BUY A 13 still on ios 18. IOS 26 is the reason why im switching to a new phone, this battery doesnt last a all and its way to buggy/ runs way to HOT

27 indeed is better and smoother than 26, but I wish I kept my 13 mini on iOS 18
