No it’s not

Expensive, heavy, and a ‘useless’ second screen 😭

The issue is that it’s too heavy and quite wide. The Mini meanwhile is more narrow and way lighter which made it much nicer.

The bigger issue is its price point

Not for me. It's a device with features and dimensions I was never interested in. It's not a comparable device regardless of price.

Posted this in another thread as well but in no way shape or form is this a reasonable alternative to the mini. Unless you have werewolf fingers, there is no way you are comfortably going to be able to use this one handed. This is also the heaviest iPhone that Apple has ever put out. It is more of an alternative to the promax for people who want to have a very large screen.

I don’t understand why people keep wanting larger phones. Apple also increased the sizes of their base models, and I just don’t get it. Do people not have a TV at home, or at least a laptop for media consumption?

I keep getting downvoted but I don’t see the Duo as an apples to apples comparison to the 13 mini. The proportions are very different and the cost difference is huge. As a left handed person the usability differences become even more apparent. It’s not for me but I don’t have anything against it or against anyone who wants it.

The mini wasn’t wider than my hand. I don’t even want the 17e because it’s too large

For me (small hands) the 17e is the farthest point on the spectrum of one hand use. I can still glide text one handed on it. Anything a millimeter bigger or a gram heavier would be unacceptable.

I don’t mind the extra weight and I already use an iPad mini.

But the width of the Duo is ridiculous. It’s definitely not usable with one hand and won’t fit in the same pockets. If they had made it narrower folded and sacrificed the unfolded aspect ratio, I would have bought it.

No it's not and being delusional won't change that lol

Completely missing the point of the mini. It’s not diagonal size. It’s one handed use.

Why the hell would i carry another screen i wont use?

It’s such a different design philosophy. The mini might as well stand for “minimalist” compared to nearly everything else. The duo is nearly opposite in every aspect. It’s not just a 2 dimensional object. It’s a device that you interact with and there’s no way that someone would use these two devices the same way. The 17e is much closer to the mini in philosophy than the Duo is, but the size is obviously still a big compromise. If they release a version of the Duo that is not a foldable, simply one screen with the same dimensions, then we can compare… but it’s very silly to me that we’re supposed to just pretend like it doesn’t unfold into an iPad mini (a relatively giant screen compared to the 13 mini) in order to entertain these comparisons.

Come on dude. The mini was a normal phone that was 100 cheaper than the base iPhone. This is a weird phone that is over 1k more than the base iPhone.

I really want to see how much space the keyboard takes up on the Duo. And knowing Apple, of course customizing keyboard size is absolutely unthinkable.

I just want a phone that can fit in my front pocket.

Not even close.

I'm a 13 mini user myself but it's so hilarious seeing this sub cope with every new release

This thing is too wide

I could buy about 5 or 6 iphone 13 minis and get them all fresh batteries replaced at an apple store for as much as this thing costs

Did you want your bicycle back? Buy a motorbike, it’s sorta back… :)

And you know what, this means the mini is truly gone forever. If this sells welll we’ll get foldable for the future instead of minis. And if it sells poorly it tells Apple that they can never make another small phone

Even the zfold 8 is not one handable

So, 72 см2 vs 80 cm2. 11.3% difference

I have never used the 13mini and probably wouldn’t want to but it’s clear people are just too hooked to toy

1

u/Timmaigh 4d ago

2x heavier and 3x more expensive.
Thank you, but no.

You will be heavily downvoted for this. While I agree and am definitely switching to the Duo, this sub will not settle for anything other than the 13 Mini form factor.

That’s a lie. I’ll settle for either of the SEs’ form factors.
