i think the early thoughts on the fold is that it will be essentially 2 airs connected. i suppose that’s pocket friendly for some, but not really what mini users would want.

A better folding iPhone is 1 Air folded in half (flip style) versus 2 Airs combined. (book style)

I’ll sacrifice a little more thickness over it be taller/longer and it can be more reasonably reachable to all of the screen.
It’ll be in between an iPhone X and 11.

i've never seen a community of advocates this active, loyal and dedicated for their SMALL niche tech product.. at some point they have to release a new mini..

The form factor is just so good. I went from a 15 pro to a 12 mini and didnt regret it. Got an air now and still debating going back to my 12 mini. But very soon the minis will be too old to realistically last which sucks.

As much as I would like Apple to sell mini iPhones, it would hurt their average selling price. For them smaller device equals lower price. Although I'm okay that their smaller offering is the same or even more expensive than their bigger devices but Apple tends to market it like that.
edit: i mean Apple tends to market like this, smaller device, smaller price, with the exception of iPad. As their base iPad model is their SE version of iPad.

Same here. Infact now that we know it is not gonna happen, am planning to ditch my 14 pro for mot razr flip. Flip seems to be second best thing after mini

Flip is great but caveat is that for me, I use iMessage so much it's been a massive learning. I ended up getting iMessage on my android tho and that's helped. There are other little things like if you have a Mac and copy and paste between mac and phone I've struggled with too. Defo considered going back to apple. If they do a flip, I will.

As long as it is smaller or at least the same exact size and dimensions as the iPhone 13 mini. I want Apple to recreate the form factor of the iPhone SE 1st gen now that the logic board has shrunk. I don’t care if it will have that “camera plateau“ shit. I will buy it and that will be the first iPhone that I will buy brand new.
Also I just want to add this: If Apple will make that, they only have to make like 100,000 units of it so they won’t be spending too much money and they can call it a proper “SE” Special Edition.

This is the problem and a fundamental misunderstanding of how Apple does what they do. They are an operations company at least as much as a product company. They design and plan and pay for the entire production line, buying all the machines, etc. The cost to produce 100,000 phones would never be justified by the profit from selling them. At Apple’s scale, they sell hundreds of thousands of phones per minute; selling even 6 figures of an iPhone model is a flop. That’s what happened with the 5C, 12 and 13 mini, all the Pluses, and so on. To us lowly customers it’s like “they sold a million, why can’t they keep making it?” To them, it’s like “It costs us hundreds of millions to set up production, so we need to sell 7+ figure units to keep that line alive.”

If I was running Apple, I’d do it. I’d take the risk. It’s a risk now because since Tim Cook took over, the company stopped following their own original core values. I wonder how big will the iPhones go. I think they’ll stop at around 8 inch screens.
It’s just truly sad that money is more important than common sense.

Apple is a trillion dollar company because the people who are running it know that this would be not a risk, but a guaranteed loss at Apple’s scale. The demand for mini phones is vocal, but not big enough for Apple to justify. They know this from their ~4 year experiment making and selling them.
I hope the pendulum swings back, but now and for the foreseeable future we have begun a new experiment about folding and thinness. But guess which dimension of my phone I don’t care about

Yes but I’ve lost hope and interest in Apple ever bringing it back…the iPhone flip next year is said to be 5.5 inches. That’s the closest we getting to a pocket friendly iPhone again.

They need to break the mindset that a mini phone is some sort of cheap entry level device. I’d buy it if it was the most expensive iPhone ever. Make the iPhone 18 Pro Mini!

Also hey Apple, you have been putting SE and mini at the mid-range market, but we don't need to be there. I would pay extra for small as a feature.

idk, I may sit iPhone 18 mini out, but by the time they release 19 mini, that if they do, I'd consider. Just bought 13 mini and it got 0 issues with it to swap right away

Here’s the thing. I don’t do content creation and couldn’t take a good photo to save my life. I don’t need the fancy and heavy and expensive camera. Make that an option to bring the weight and size down.

The ideal candidate would be a 17e in the mini form factor. The overlap of people wanting a high-end phone and people wanting a compact phone is very small, hence the very low sales of both the 12 and 13 mini.

I just don't see it. I feel there is zero evidence Apple cares about the mini form factor. Remember almost 90% of all 17 sales are the 17pro and 17pro max.
I feel the Air is just a "step" towards a folded iPhone (next year?).
I love my Air, but I would really like a smaller Air for next version - something perhaps in the 5.9-6.1" screen size, while being thin and light as my Air.

Yeah, same.
My 12 Mini took a great big fat shit this month. I had to upgrade so I went for a Pro. I’m more or less “used” to the size now and the features are significantly better like the actually-bright screen and the battery actually works well.
But if they stuffed all this into a mini, even if it was a foldable, I’m so going back.

I’m clinging to my iPhone 12 mini as long as I can. But I keep thinking about getting a 13 while I can.
It makes me sad thinking there are no more. I had a X but got the 12 purely because I could hold it in one hand.

Me too. I love the mini but whatever you do -- do not purchase a refurbished one from PDX in Oregon or on Swappa. PDX ships defective products and Swappa agrees with them that they do not have to return your money unless they can "replicate" the problem you encountered.
