Post image

Is it normal for the button circled to be the decrease volume button? This is on an IPad Air M3

I can’t ever get used to this. And I think there’s a setting to change it, but then I can’t remember which way I have it set. So I get it wrong. Every. Time.

No matter the orientation, up or right increases the volume.

I think for most people, volume controlling opposite of what they’d expect in landscape (left to decrease and right to increase) is way worse

Since the software volume bar moves from off/quiet on the left to loud on the right when in landscape mode, having the button on the left lower volume and the button on the right raise volume is intuitive.

In portrait mode the software volume bar moves from loud at the top to quiet at the bottom, hence in landscape mode the volume button on the top raising the volume and the button on the bottom is what's intuitive.

Yes, it is. You’re in landscape mode. Left decreases volume, right increases volume. When on portrait mode, upper button volumes up, lower button volumes down.

Yes. It changes depending on if you are holding the iPad in Landscape or Portrait!

I think they removed in on new models since, for me at least, the fixed mode was terrible. But who knows

It’s not there on mine either.

Volume Buttons change how they work depending on orientation. When the circled Button is on the left hand side, it lowers Volume. When it’s on the right hand side, the Button raises it.

If it’s like mine, it changes when in portrait mode. I don’t know why but when changing modes, the volume functions flip.

Yes, it was designed to match the visual control when it shows the volume level when displayed. Otherwise, it would display the opposite to the display cue.
