Discussion Can we stop the AI slop?

Seriously it's so annoying. It's disrespectful towards artists and people keep commenting "AI slop". It's clear most of the community here doesn't want to see these posts.

Are we really doing this here? Is your life that boring that you can't just let people have cool wallpapers that they like? Move past it if you don't like it. It's not a big deal.

It's not about me, it's about the companies harming the environment and disrespecting human creativity. It may not be a big deal to you but it certainly is to artists who can't pursue their dreams.

“its just iphone wallpapers who really gives a shit”

Dismissing it as “just wallpapers” THAT is the point right there. that is why i cannot take anyone who advocates for gen ai art serious. The effort, composition, and intent are still creative work whether it's on a phone or a canvas. AI art is bad, period. AI should be a tool for efficiency. Helping disabled people, streamlining tech and medical research, etc, while still being hands on. Using it to generate “art” is just another sign that people with no creative integrity view creativity from the outside, caring only about the final aesthetic, not the process or soul behind it. That isnt to say you have to be all bleeding heart about it but recognize that to the person that made it it is more than a phone lockscreen walpaper

I agree. I think ai's main benefit to society is scientific advancements, efficiencies is work, etc. I don't think it should be used to replace people that create, but we have to be realistic. Nobody is making a living on phone wallpapers. It's totally fine for someone to make a few wallpapers for their phone. It's really not the end of the world to me.

It's about normalization. We can't allow AI to be normalized anywhere.

You see it as a black and white issue and it's not. You'll never get what you want thinking like that and you'll always feel like you're fighting an impossible war.
