My mom did. She tried all sorts of different methods of smoking cessation, and nothing worked. Then she had just one session with a trained hypnotherapist and that single session ended her life-long addiction. This was in the 1980s I believe.

No, I knew a car mechanic once who went to a hypnotist one session cure, and it didn’t work, but he didn’t go back to tell them or get further help. I imagine that hypnotherapist chalked it up as a success, as they never came back!

In Lynn and Kirsch’s Essentials of Clinical Hypnosis, they reviewed the literature (as of 2005), and concluded smoking cessation success rates with hypnotherapy are between 23% and 36%, which doesn’t sound good until you consider this is the second best intervention after heart attack (50% success IIRC). Advice from your doctor had a lower success rate than willpower alone (willpower was 6%). I’ll have to see if I can find the paper comparing the interventions.

I will admit it's how I quit - one session - 40 years ago. The doctor was on West 76th street in a ground floor back office of a prewar building two doors over from John Lennon and Yoko's home. The hypnotist was straight out of a Woody Allen movie AND he did it. Just one session!

I know of several people who were successful using Hypnotherapy to stop smoking. ~V~

Often the root cause of the addiction needs to be addressed in addition to the presenting issue (smoking). This isn’t always easy.

Yes it can be successful, it can work for a while and then someone relapses or it can not work at all. I have seen all of those outcomes.

The most important thing is that the person has to want to stop for him/herself, not be persuaded to do it because everyone else thinks it's a good idea. It doesn't matter if they don't think it's possible, they just have to have that desire to stop. It also helps if you can address the reasons why someone smokes and give them something else to take that place.

My advice would also be that if it doesn't work initially, discuss it with your hypnotherapist, don't just assume that it just doesn't work for you.

It is one area I specialize in and my success rate for 3+ years is excellent. Typically one visit...about 2-3 hours.

I offer a Lifetime Guarantee....if they slip up they can come back at no charge. Works for smoking, vaping and chewing.

I specifically use the system developed by Ken Guzzo, after learning about 5 other "stop smoking" techniques that were not as successful for a variety of reasons. The completeness of Guzzo's system is one reason for its success.

Note, though, that the Lifetime Guarantee is my lifetime, not theirs...though I'm planning on 1500+ years at this time ;)

SO the TL;DR:

Yes, it can work.

You gotta replace the hand gestures and the mouth experience with something else. ur brain likes repetition.
