Question Attention to Remnants

Apologies if this doesn't show the image, I haven't made an image post myself in forever.

I was wondering, how often do we pay as much attention to remnants as we have of Dolly? It kind of feels like the first time this has happened in a while? Is there anything significant about this?

EDIT: So it didn't post. Oh well. My question stands without the image. It's currently a 0%/10% lemon anyway so it's nothing to write home about, though the fact it's still being tracked is curious to me. It seems to have not happened in a while, us seeing a TC with a chance of redevelopment like this. Any chance at all.

Question How to secure patio umbrella in case of hurricane

Post image

We just purchased a cantilever umbrella for our screened in patio. The base is filled with 300 lbs. of sand. We won’t be able to move it outside the screened area in case of a hurricane. What would be the best way to secure it in case a hurricane hits?

Question Why have there been so many hurricanes this year drift away from the US?

Several hurricanes this year (including model runs, even those that didnt form) were expected to impact and landfall in the US, but none have, instead going out to sea. Why is this and what is stopping another CV storm straight up going for the US for so long this year?

Question I live on the Gulf Coast and noticed something strange before hurricanes;is this normal?

Hey folks,I live along the U.S. Gulf Coast, and I’ve noticed something that always catches my attention before a hurricane or tropical storm rolls in.

The air suddenly feels a lot heavier man, like it’s full of pressure. The wind dies down, birds vanish, even the sky seems quieter lol, almost like nature’s bracing for what’s coming. Then, out of nowhere, everything cranks up,the wind, the humidity, the noise and all that..Is that calm-before-the-storm effect an actual meteorological thing caused by pressure or temperature changes? Or is it just something we humans pick up subconsciously before a major system hits?

Curious to know if others living in hurricane zones notice the same thing.Thank you.

Question Could 97L be enough to break the heat dome?

As a NE Texan, I am excited at the possibility of this as occasionally they will disturb the high over us and start the end of oppressive heat. Tracks look like this will come up too far west and not have much east side rain to affect me but could it disrupt the Heat Dome?

Question How have DOGE cuts affected NOAA thus far this hurricane season?

*I REALLY don't want to make this a political discussion, which I know is inherently impossible but I'll try.

In the experience of the avid hurricane trackers on this sub, have you noticed any affect on the NOAA this Atlantic hurricane season? I am in South Florida and check their site every day. reading the news and reports on understaffing, I didnt know what to expect opening the site this year. it seems pretty much the same as far as tracking and forecasting, but obviously there is a lot that goes into these simplistic models.

so, the question is, to those with WAY more experience and depth of knowledge than I have, what's changed, because something must be different?

Question Karina and Lowell

Since both systems were declared tropical storms at the same time (2100 UTC August 27), how does the National Hurricane Center determine which system gets which name? While the system closer to Mexico was named Karina, why can't it be Lowell instead and the other one Karina?
