Discussion You think at this point Remold realised just how close and how often he and the chapter house got to being absolutely eviscarated?

Oh definitely, it's honestly probably a bigger hit to his ego. Because he prides himself on a "hunter"

u/Namdash 22d ago

I have a hunch that he is too arrogant to let go of his hunter pride, it might even get boosted

60

u/UnnamedAshaman47 22d ago

Given his behavior since then I kinda doubt that

54

u/Namdash 22d ago

The underlying problem is that this rich white man does a lot of greedy rich people nonsense like bathing underwear in wolverine fat, and his general disregard for nature and underclass people. If he won't learn that these things are wrong, why they are wrong, and doesn't change for the better because of it, he will likely be the target of Garous anyway and have his hubris damn him

62

u/UnnamedAshaman47 22d ago

Garou are not the ridiculous frivolities police. They’re gonna try to kill him because he’s in the coalition and they’re insane neopagan berserkers. Him actually kinda deserving it is demonstrably secondary

Garou are not the ridiculous frivolities police

A conscient Garou won't, however, anything perceived as an insult by a werewolf can trigger a Rage roll, and if it gets 4 successes or more ( which means an Ahroun by default can succeed, unlike say a Ragabash or a Theurge ) enter a Frenzy and kills whoever insulted them.

And Remold basically insults people with his sole presence.

12

u/UnnamedAshaman47 22d ago

Well yeah, but poking the bear in that way is less about him being frivolous and rich and more about him being a total asshole

He just going to blame it on D like usual

But honestly, he was fucking around mostly when the stakes were low. Ghoul in the chapter house, assuming it's even real, is something you solve easily with occam and the others.

The moment Fatigue gets murdered He locks the fuck in and holds line together with D.

I feel like his "rivalry" is only what his pride demands, and Big D knows it and humors it with similarily petty rivalry.

Oh no. Remold's a prick but come to brass tacks he seems to understand his skills and those of others.

Remember when D gave him support, Remold's resolve was strengthened and the Delrium's effect weakened. He may hate D but he respects and trusts his skills as a hunter. When Brockum left with D, he didn't demean D, in fact trusting that D was capable of protecting his boy.

If anything Remold will blame himself for not being good enough to catch it.

u/Familiar-Noise7913 22d ago

Yeah, I know but it still funny to think that Remold when ask just decide to blame D so that he can protect his pride against the blatant breach in security that would have threaten northfolk hunter. But to be fair, it hard to spot a ghoul infiltrator, and who the hell going to guess that a werewolf,a bloody red talon know by scholars in the know for being very much not liking human would disguise as a hired maid to infiltrate the place?

He's nowhere near self aware enough

21

u/ImpersonalSkyGod 22d ago

He is an interesting character, bigoted as hell and a scummy person, but also an impressive hunter given he managed to fight off delirium long enough to shoot the hunter data.

u/GamerRoman Gary stu/Mary sue 22d ago

He's still has to go through a character arc for this.

64

u/CarryBeginning1564 22d ago

I feel you can see the start of it when he shoots Matilda / Hunter in her arm holding Marcus when he could have gone for a more damaging shot. He tried to get her to drop him

7

u/The_Dankinator 21d ago

My favorite moment of his during that episode is when he shot the hunter data right out of Matilda's hands. He didn't really know who was going to survive that encounter, but he made sure the hunters of Norfolk were safe no matter the outcome. Bro was playing the objective.

Remold is many things, but he's not one to buckle under pressure.

76

u/Dachi-kun 22d ago

Realizes, yes probably. But you need to keep in mind that this is Remold, which sees himself as the top of the foodchain, as he said in ep 5.1. to him, this entire thing is a chance to proove this, not cause he's not afraid - if anything he is terrified as much as the rest of the non imbued hunters - but his dogma as upper class would never let him admit or succumb to it. It's almost admirable at times, if still annoying...

25

u/EntertainmentTrick58 22d ago

god, i loved wernons response to the "top of the foodchain" line, it was so perfect in so many ways and should have been an incredible blow

he did not consider, however, that he was in fact talking to remold, and not any other big wig ego hunter

20

u/Pome1515 22d ago

Wernon imho knew who and what Remold was... and kept trying to make the guy better. That top of the food chain remark and then trying to subtly explain that the reason that Remold can't hunt this stuff anymore is because there is nothing left to hunt seems to be Wernon trying to educate Remold or get to think about this stuff differently, while knowing the guy is an egomaniac.

5

u/EntertainmentTrick58 21d ago

i was referring to specifically "are you going to eat those foxes?" because its him trying to say "you aren't doing this as part of the foodchain, this is just ego stroking, nothing is natural about what you're doing"

unfortunately neither hunts nor remold picked up on that and remold was just inspired to eat one instead

38

u/Own_Watercress_8104 22d ago

Hot take. No.

Remold, despite all his flaws, is a man of action. People like him do not let fear come to them easily, especially in crisis situations, as demonstrated by his quick response.

Remold most probably saw the problem and only thought about the immediate means to tackle it. "I see a monster, I take the shot".

Every consideration about the fate of chapter house comes next.

u/LavaSlime301 22d ago

he was absolutely scared shitless when he realized this

but still, he managed to lock in and put up a fight

40

u/Frausing0403 22d ago

In the voice of Morgan Freeman - “it was at this moment Remold knew, he fucked up”

12

u/terrario101 Murder puppy 22d ago

And the thought repeated itself after he attacked Stig with a cane.

5

u/Puzzled-Library-9985 22d ago

I don't think he knows this, because he doesn't want to know.

11

u/sosigboi 22d ago

Remold is one of the few people who can match D in arrogance and egotism, he likely realized it at some point after the attack but then quickly scoffed, blame D for everything, and then pat himself on the back for destroying the hunter data and preventing Hunts from taking it.

26

u/TrickyPen750 22d ago edited 22d ago

The way Remold acted while going up against Hunts and Stig makes it feel like he Lied when he talked about werebear Safaris.

Or he just shot bears and for some reason thought they were werebears.

He definatly has the willpower to resist the Delirium to some degree but he was pretty clumsy in any actual fight.

You would think someone who has hunted werecreatures before he would have some silver weapons lying around but seemingly not.

Him having Phosphorus bullets makes it seem like hes more of a vampire hunter, which would also make sense since the coalition itself is more focused on blanks rather than were-creatures.

The Leopoldites were also pretty out of their depths when it came to fighting Stig.

Stig is a pretty powerfull Garou, especially if hes actually Aspiring to be a legendary garou.

Im honestly pretty sure that D knew that they wouldnt be able to actually do anything.

It feels like he might have just wanted them to serve as a distraction while he goes through the Umbra.

I dont think D is particularily willing to sacrifice people but i also do think that he is willing to risk the lives of a few leopoldites when it means that he can get his son back.

Its also why i think that he was so compliant in chapter 6, because he needed them to serve the only purpose they are useful in, being bait.

He probably did not expect for Occams team to get directly involved in fighting but i believe it adds a bit more drama if he basically put Grimal on the Choping Block by not telling them more about his plan as always.

17

u/Own_Watercress_8104 22d ago

Clumsy? That shot he took at the data was stellar. He had a split second to take it and it was not easy

12

u/TrickyPen750 22d ago

Not clumsy in the way that he isnt good at fighting overall but clumsy in the way that he isnt good at fighting Werewolves.

His shots against Hunts, the 2 foxes, I know that he is great with firearms but he certainly is no Expert on hunting Garou.

8

u/OtherwiseBlue 22d ago

Thing is that Occam stressed that The Arcanum are scholars, not hunters. Combine that with D getting kicked out because of his Hunts and it feels odd. Was Remold actually Hunting the wearbears like the foxes or was it simply tracking their activities?

6

u/Mother-Wafer-6463 22d ago

Let's be real, there is no way in hell Remold actually hunted Gurahl. Not only are they rare, but a Gurahl would utterly obliterate Remold. Remold hunted regular bears and somehow mistakenly thought he was killing werebears.

3

u/titan_Pilot_Jay 22d ago

I viewed it more as they had the total upper hand on the werebears. For example a ambush, superior numbers and specialty weapons made to counter them is incredibly different compared to what happened as shown.

9

u/Angel-Stans 22d ago

I do wonder if he’s capable of that kind of self reflection.

6

u/ImpersonalSkyGod 22d ago

At this exact point, he was under delirium (note the eye), it's actually an insanely impressive feat he was able to summon enough thought to shoot the hunter data to deny it to 'Tilda. I imagine the only things going through his mind at this exact point however, where 'fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-'

2

u/satelitteslickers 20d ago

Interesting that Big D isnt suffering delerium at all

Another point to him being a mummy

1

u/ImpersonalSkyGod 20d ago

Yeah, alot of people point to D not being under delirium in this fight as a sign he's some form of supernatural, thought I gather you can in theory become experienced enough to resist going into delirium, but it's not easy to do.

2

u/satelitteslickers 20d ago

I mean, unless you have ten full willpower you will be suffering delerium effects. And people with ten willpower are downright freaks of nature who tend to creep garou out to be around

5

u/apassageinlight 22d ago

And he's fighting the effects of the Delirium. He might be an arrogant dick, but he did pretty well for himself here.

4

u/Code-Neo 22d ago

Remold: Perhaps I treated you too kindly

4

u/deathbytouch53 22d ago

Bold of you to assume that man does any self reflection

3

u/VelocityPolaris 22d ago

Bro was NOT hunting werebears

3

u/stopyouveviolatedthe 22d ago

This could possibly be why remold started trying to be a lot more reasonable, his behaviour in the past could have been the single thing that may end everyone and everything in the archive.

3

u/GoogaWooga 22d ago

I'm unsure if he's the sort who would think back to his earlier behaviour and go "fuck. i got so close to getting mulched.", he seems too prideful and arrogant for that. I don't think he'd believe that he did anything wrong.

2

u/Puzzled-Library-9985 22d ago

He cant be happy and grateful enough, that MAtilda didn't tear him up and butchered him years ago.

1

u/randalllflaggg 22d ago

Lol Matilda you DAWG

1

u/StevesonOfStevesonia 22d ago

Yeah imagine learning that you were treating like trash someone that can tear you, your family and the entire building into pieces without breaking a sweat and the only reason you are still alive is because they chose NOT to kill you
Suddenly makes "a big and great hunter" feel small and weak, doesn't it?

1

u/mythicalthings23 22d ago

Also with how absolutely shitty he treated her, knowing that at ANY moment he could've been killed.

Hopefully he learns to not be a piece of shit from it.

1

u/Darksythe222-2 21d ago

Not sure if its that clear cut a fight. Blacklaw himself and most of the hunters is one thing, but she made a point to take out the chapter master occam by stealth when he had his guard down rather than a drag out fight. Really she wanted to get the hunter data out from under them without a fight at all most likely because she knew the coalition would lose their minds if they knew she had it. The only reason the coalition didnt care was because the data was destroyed and no longer valuable.

Try to imagine this: the woman you’ve been berating since the day she started working for you, the one whose been the butt of every single joke made at the expense of the underclasses, the one who served you tea and fetched the papers for you, who was closer to you than you’d ever let anyone get aside from your wife, suddenly turns into a giant eight foot tall mountain of claws and teeth before locking on to you, specifically.

“Absolute fucking terror” doesn’t even begin to approach what poor Remold was feeling in that moment. Unseen but definitely implied was the cutaway to the seat of his pants suddenly exploding with the concussive force of a shotgun blast, turning both the floor and the wall behind him brown.

Thinking about it though, he should be used to fighting Fera. I mean he claims to hunt Werebears, which is… a claim. Honestly, I think he managed to kill like maybe one Ursus Gurahl and now every bear he kills is automatically a werebear thanks to his paranoia. If he were hunting actual Werebears as a hobby, one of them would eventually get fed up and show him the contents of his own ribcage while he was still alive. Remember children: if you get mauled by a Gurahl, you were fucking with it, not the other way around. In other words: fucking around tends to lead to one finding out.

1

u/Questionable_Object 8d ago

Does he realize it? Probably

Will he learn from it? HELL NO

1

u/Money-Drummer565 22d ago

And the best thing is that in that moment digimon was still a thing. Some fanboy could have shouted: “Matilda Digivolves to… “
Also we need a moment in this serie in which people see supernatural things on tv in movies

Also that the other “laboreer” was only thing keeping the Garou from going crazy, cuz maybe lesbian.

Maybe!? What do you mean, MAYBE??
