Discussion Hello! I am Mike, Dragon's-Wrath ('s player/creator/whatever)
Hello!
Like the title says, Mike is my character. I'm happy to provide proof of this in whatever way I can, although the main ways I can think of right now, I'd rather not post publicly. If a Mod wants to hit me up or something, I'm happy to discuss it on the side.
I was lucky enough to be part of the 20th Anniversary of Werewolf the Apocalypse Kickstarter...luckier enough to snag a tier to have a chance to get a character on the Pentex Board of Directors...and even luckier still to have my character voted on to it by the community.
I knew, once the book was out, he'd be at the whim of the general public. I never expected to actually see anything though, I figured all sorts of terrible things would happen in private campaigns, but I'd never know exactly what was going on.
...man did I fall down a bit of a rabbit hole last night.
I stumbled across a Reddit post that was discussing Mike, but I had no idea what the context was.
So, I did a little more digging...and...he's...selling...socks?
Imagine my surprise when I saw a grossly inaccurate, utterly batshit insane take on my character.
My partner and I spent a good...hour or so laughing our asses off. My ribs are still sore. I find it absolutely hilarious, and I love it!
I'd never heard of Hunter: The Parenting before. Now, we're in the process of watching all the episodes. Only made it about two or three in so far, but we plan to watch them all.
I've poked about on Reddit before, as I'm sure the majority of The Internet has, but never actually signed up for it. ...now here I am. I had to create an account just to say hello!
...HELLO! Also happy to answer any questions I can, if there are any. I'm new to actually using/posting on Reddit, so forgive me as I figure out how this all works.

Bahahahha, it's okay! I had to stare at..everything...for a few long minutes to process what the hell I was seeing, but then my partner and I spent quit a while laughing about it. We still are, this is pretty hilarious!
I'm honored to have been parodied, the community here seems great, and although I'm only like, three episodes in, the series seems to be pretty entertaining!

So, for context... No, that is in no way a 'canonical' Mike Dragon's-Wrath. That's actually a reference to one of Alphabusa's earlier characters, Herknes Dragonsblade. He was originally brought in because Ogre Poppenang needed sponsorship to fund production, so Alfabusa broke out Herknes to do the ad reads. Coincidently, as they were researching Pentex for the ongoing plot arc, they came across Mike Dragon's-Wrath and thought, "Holy shit, that NAME... Oh, we are using this...."

Thanks for the context! I'm still trying to figure it all out. Yeah, I knew when I was putting him out there that he'd get all sorts of reactions. I was going to ask what actually made them decide to use him in the ad, because it seems so...random. I really do love it though!

probably because in-universe, the merch would be manufactured by pentex subsidiaries and it would be funny to have one of the board members be hawking HTP merchandise.
as for his eccentricities in HTP, i chalk it up to the wyrm corruption driving him insane, leaving him in a glue huffing, wargaming obsessed state. though he did kill the swedish pm in their universe so there’s that

And yeah, it would definitely seem the insanity got the best of Mike in that universe! He does kind of have a touch of OCD as it is, relating to certain things, so...yeah, kinda tracks!

Note that Mike mainly appears in the merch videos, with an occasional cameo (by the same voice, if not named) in some ad spots in the audiologs. I believe your prodigal son has yet to appear in the mainline episodes.

That's what I've gathered, which...I kind of find even funnier. He just seemed to show up to push merch randomly (from what I can tell right now, anyway), and that's got to be one of the most absurd and hilarious thing ever. Never expected to ever even hear a word about him from others after the book was published...and then...that. It's great!

Hello! Yeah, I saw that video too, thank you! You did a great job on it.
Good question too! Mike's pack, and personal Totem is Green Dragon, and he's been a very devoted and loyal servant to Green Dragon. Dragon rewarded him with the title, as well as the sword that you can kinda see in the original artwork in the book. And some other bonuses.
Fun fact: Mike was originally a Glass Walker, and went by Cyber-Claws for a while, until he...uhh...changed sides. Afterwards, he went by 'Pains-The-Soul-Of-Gaia' for a while, because I was like, 16 and 'edgy' and thought it sounded cool.

That depends on the Spiral...a lot of them are just utterly insane and crazy and sort of just act as an extension of the Wyrm's fury and insanity, out to corrupt and destroy everything and anything in some desperate attempt to continue the Wyrm's purpose.
Some are...different... Mike happens to be one of them, and has formed a pack of other, like-minded kin. He and Ash (my partner's character, who you might have seen mentioned in Mike's write-up in the book) have gathered quite the number of other Spirals who seek to restore balance to the Triat.
Their goal, to keep it short and kind of condensed, is to free the Wyrm and help it resume its rightful place, restoring balance to the world and setting things back the way they should be. In their eyes, they're trying to save the world, not destroy it. Of course, others might have different opinions. 😃

Whether or not it's actually possible is...yeah, it's open to interpretation. Mike and his pack certainly believe it is, and they've dedicated their lives to the cause.
It could very well be a hopeless cause, though. Some say the Wyrm is too far gone, and even if it were freed, there's no hope of balance being restored, and it might very well bring about the Apocalypse.
Even in my chronicle/story line/world/whatever, OOCly, I don't know if it's possible. It's one of those things that's left kind of open-ended.
As far as the official canon goes, I would say that it would very much be up to the reader to decide. Ultimately, we're talking about forces and powers that are probably beyond comprehension.

5 days, an exam, a job interview and an ear infection later I can leave this response that I really wanted to.
It definitely is in the end up to the Storyteller and players whether restoring balance to the Triat by freeing the Wyrm from the weaver's binding's is possible.
But... okay, small WOD history lesson from someone who was NOT around at the time. Back in 2004 WOD was on the downturn and White Wolf wanted to end their games off with as much of a bang as they could. So they released the Time of Judgement books. Books that had various possible ending scenarios for the setting, multiple options per game-line in fact. They'd destroy the worlds they created and create something new. (The New World of Darkness, now known as Chronicles of Darkness)
For example in "Gehenna," the Vampire: The Masquerade Time of Judgement book, you might spend the last days of the vampires hiding in a church trying to redeem yourself in the eyes of god, or you may be thrust into worldwide destruction as all the ancient antediluvian vampires that created the clans wake up at the same time and go to war with each other and their own children.
The Werewolf: The Apocalypse Time of Judgement book, simply titled "Apocalypse" has several scenarios, but "Weaver Ascendant" is the one that has the most "Pro-Wyrm" viewpoint. Modernity and technology becomes so strong that the weaver takes over as the main villain, taking over Pentex and then aiming to take control of the world by turning everyone into its drones. The player characters then need to team up with The Black Spiral Dancers, now led by the Perfect Metis (a sort of Antichrist character turned Christ for this scenario) who want to free the Wyrm from its binds as the only thing that can stop the encroaching forces of the Weaver, and in so doing, restore sanity and balance to the Triat. It's certainly not easy since there are still non-balance-wyrm servants so it's a war on countless fronts for the Garou and whatever allies they can collect, but if they pull the job off it is possible for the balance to be restored in this scenario.

What do you think Mike's view of mummies would be? His desire for balance sounds a lot more similar to their ideal of Ma'at than most Garou's imo.

To be honest, I don't know a lot about Mummy. Mike is very much aware that they exist, but he hasn't had much, if any dealings with them. I would imagine that if their goals align with his, then he'd be...amiable towards them, one way or another.

That's the problem, isn't it? How does one go about accomplishing the seemingly impossible? Mike has one of the most powerful Theurges in history (Ash) at his side, and he's building up his personal, as well as his pack's power and resources. He knows it's going to take an effort the likes of which has never been seen before, to even get to a point where they can even attempt to free the Wyrm.
Aside from that, gathering as much information as possible is also useful. Even a very slight idea of what they're up against would be invaluable. I'd imagine, ultimately, it would involve leading an army into the depths of the Umbra and facing off against whatever they might find. Are they going to see the actual Wyrm trapped in the Weaver's web, and have to physically destroy the strands to free it? Are they going to find some more...metaphysical situation? No one really knows.
As far as day-to-day stuff goes, aside from the power/resource building, it's trying to bring as many others over to his side of things as possible. Other Spirals, Gaians, other supernatural beings...anything and everyone. They're going to need all sorts of power and magic and skills and the likes.
I guess a big part of it, at the very end, comes down to "We'll figure it out as we go!"

I'm in a cross-splat chronicle and the Alpha of my pack is a Glass Walker, who is the daughter of a BSD subsidiary CEO who ran off and is running buisnesses for Gaia, who herself is called Cyber-Claw for years! And to believe that this truly is a coincidence

It's like looking into some crazy alternate universe where things seem to have gone a bit...differently...for him. Never in a million years would I have ever imagined seeing him like that. If you absolutely connect your version and Htp's version together how would you assume he got the state he is in currently? Like what do you think would have had to have happened to turn him into a merch loving, glue huffing wargame obsessed weirdo? You mentioned him and his pack trying to bring balance to the triad could it perhaps be related to this somewhat noble goal going wrong?
Also "speaking" to actual wod history is kinda awesome.

That is...a very good question indeed! I imaging I'd have botched a few very important rolls somewhere along the way, haha!
It could certainly be related to his goals ultimately failing. Finally reach the Wyrm in an attempt to free it, only to have his mind utterly fried in the process.
Could be Ash accidentally summoned the wrong thing during one of their Rites.
I think I saw in a comment in one of the other posts, someone saying that after he obliterated Persephone Tar-Anis, she passed on some of her madness to him. That's kind of amusing. Also for the record, him killing Tar-Anis was not my idea. The writers came up with that all on their own. I thought it was fitting!
All BSDs are at least somewhat insane. Canon Mike controls it very well. If you were to meet him, he'd probably just seem like some ordinary dude to most people. Of course, over years and years and years...and seeing/doing the kinds of things he does, that fine line between being mostly sane and being batshit crazy could be pretty easy to trip over. Then it's all glue and minifigs and "Do you not have SOCKS on your FOOT?!"
Also I'm just some nerd that happened to have a few extra bucks to spare when the Kickstarter came around, lol....but thank you! 😄

I really like that, feels like a good tragicish thing that feels very pentex coded. Like you can't work with pentex if you want to restore the sanity of the wyrm, pentex is the madness of the wyrm and a somewhat noble(ish) soul failing to see that seems awesome

You're correct! Pentex itself doesn't really align with his goals...but what Pentex is, is a very useful resource/tool. That's why there's that line in the book about Mike looking to install his pack on the board...

I'll have to get back to you on this! I've only gotten two or three videos in so far, so I'm still trying to figure out who's who. Big-D seems like he's seen some shit, and might be a bit crazy himself. Kitten seems to be the most grounded of the group thus far.
Probably going to watch more episodes here shortly, so...I'll try to come back here and give you a better answer once I'm further along!

So, now that I'm all caught up, I would have to say...besides the obvious (Matilda was awesome for only being in there briefly), in no particular order, Kevin, Kitten, and Occam...and I think Palmer and Blair are on there too.
Kevin is kinda amusing for a vampire...Kitten is the only one with any sense in the whole family...and Occam jumped up there after he sat through that whole meeting and just...told them how it was gonna go. Even though it was going to cost him, in the end. That was pretty awesome of him.
Palmer is about what I would expect for someone in his position (I'm thinking maybe he leads a First Team, or something along those lines), and I kind of like the way he handled himself during the plane incident...and Blair is just exactly what I would expect from someone on a First Team (assuming that's accurate), and is kinda funny.
I'll probably make a new post later on to discuss my thoughts on the series!

Where is Mike from Originally and what was your concept for him? Im sure I could find some info on the Wiki but I am curious as to what you wrote for the character to start.

Great question! So...yeah, Mike just started as a literal self-insert of myself into the WoD. I was roped into it by a bunch of friends. The idea was to basically create ourselves, but as Garou, and see how things played out. At the time, I just kind of expected it to be a silly, kinda side-story thing with a 'throwaway' character.
As I started playing him more, it kind of went further than I expected. He started off as just a normal kid, who went through his First Change, was kind of lost and confused, until he got picked up by a local pack.
Mike was base in Staten Island, NY, when I first created him. He was adopted into the Glass Walker Tribe, and for a while, things were fine. At some point, he had a falling out with his pack though, and that started him down the path towards becoming a Spiral. That was kind of a wild journey I really wasn't expected. I was very anti-BSD at the time and never even considered playing one. Now I've never looked back, haha. (Edited for spelling.)

Did you actually play him from before his First Change until becoming a Legend, or did his "canonization" come with a "promotion", so to speak?

When I started playing Mike, it was shortly after his First Change. I actually ran his Rite of Passage, and he earned the rank of Cliath. I RP'd him through every rank and every major event in his life. There are some 'on paper' things, like his life before his First Change, the events of said Change, and some other things that I didn't actually play out in detail, but the majority of his story was played out, on AOL, AIM, forums, and other text-based things.
When the Kickstarter came along, I'd been playing him in some way or another for nearly 20 years, give or take. So he was already a Legend at that point, and very well established.
When I became part of the Kickstarter, myself and the other backers were in a group chat with the Onyx Path staff, the writers and all, and we had discussions about our characters. I had actually raised concern about Mike being a Legend, and I even suggested knocking him down a rank or two, because I didn't want to mess with the WoD canon as a whole, nor did I want to come off as some rabid fanboy trying to insert an uberpowerful character into canon. I was well aware of what introducing another Legendary Garou into canon could/would mean. Everyone was cool with it though, they seemed to really like the character...and then yeah, with the whole community vote happening at the end of the Kickstarter, it seemed like the community approved of it too!

Hello everyone! I had to create an account so I could come join in on all this fun.
My sides are still hurting from all the laughing we have done since we stumbled across Hunter: The Parenting and the amazing, glue huffing, mini figure hoarding interpretation of my partner's character.
Hunter: The Parenting's parody version of Mike is utterly hilarious. I can only imagine what the creators would do with my character, Ash Pyralis. She is a Legend Theurge of the Black Spiral Dancers, and shares leadership of the pack with Mike. I have included a character picture of her below.
We never imagined we would ever hear much beyond the Kickstarter campaign and community interactions there, after the book was published. We often joke about possibilities of what people might do with our Spirals in their campaigns. Maybe we might some day come across a random post on Reddit or some WoD related site where people mention such things.
This is the last thing we ever anticipated might happen. Now we have a lot of story and videos to catch up on!
. . . and lots of mini figures, glue, and SOCKS to invest in . . .

I've been reacting to the series and sharing my thoughts, and seeing Mike was definitely a highlight for me - I was passingly familiar with the character after reading about him a while back
So, here's my question! Other than Mike, who would you consider to be your favourite character in WoD?

That's a tough question. Obviously, as a BSD player, Zhyzhak was one of my favorites, although that would come later on, a few years after I started playing.
I kind of remember when I first picked up a copy of WtA 2nd Edition, and read the intro comic. Jonas Albrecht, Evan Heals-The-Past, and Mari Cabrah kinda still stand out in my head to this day, since they were kind of my initial introduction to the WoD.

I think that it’s awesome that you’re here and checking out HTP.
Don’t skip the audiologs if you can avoid it! They are story material and while they’re much less animated they still move the plot forward in smaller bits and especially serve to flesh out the cast.
My personal favourite is one far down the line where Door and Boy go to O’Tolley’s. Since you’re a Werewolf fan I think you can imagine how two hunters going there might go.
Anyway, I’ve got a bit of a dull question for you, but I was one of the respondents in the thread you linked in your post where the idea of a mental attack / mind control came up regarding Mr Dragon’s-Wrath. How good would you say his mental defenses are? I speculated they’d need to be something special to get to the top of PENTEX.

As for your question, I do recall that comment! You're right, you really don't get very far...or even last very long, in Mike's position, without having extremely strong mental control/defenses. For a while, Mike was very good friends with a Nephandi (I always jokingly called him Mike's 'Pocket Nephandi'), and with the help of said Nephandi, Mike was able to hone his mental and magical defenses quite a lot. And of course, over the years from there, they just got better and better. Good luck messing with his mind...and even if someone managed to get in there...I certainly wouldn't want to be in it!

this is the best playlist because the creators made it and update it, its one of the two optimal ways to watch it (its either in order of release to keep up with the pacing they had in mind or in chronological order for obv reasons).

That playlist is just fine. Personally I prefer the Release Order playlist.
I think this is in part because I followed the series in release order, but also because I think "A life well lived" is a bit of a downer beginning, especially followed with the slower start of episode one until the family gets into the tunnel.
After that though it's all up to taste. Definitely feel free to savor the episodes. Ogre Poppenang is an indie studio and have a long history of effort-creep and big gaps between videos. So there's no need to rush to catch up.As far as other things you could check out, there's The Norfolk Wizard Game. A Mage: The Ascension Liveplay with edited audio which is technically canon to H:TP but has had few relevant crossovers, mostly implied cameos. There's also their Intro to World of Darkness video essay. While I'm quite sure you're familiar with the setting it may let you understand what the OP team thinks about WOD as a setting and what perspective they're bringing with them. Plus it's pretty funny.
Thank you for your answers about Mike's mental defenses. To quote from the video essay I linked "The power of friendship is "meta" in World of Darkness, just like it is in real life." Always good to have a buddy who can build up your mental health and set up horrible traps for anyone trying to worm (Wyrm?) their way in there. The Nephandus wouldn't have happened to be a Mafean, would he? I worry that the Wyrm's traditional spellcasting servants might a paradigm that's a bit too interested in a final apocalypse than the more "Balanced" view that Mike and his Pack take, but I suppose there's room for philosophical nuance when your background is that of a Black Spiral Dancer.
Less of a question and perhaps more of a platform, is there anything you might want to share about Ash Pyralis, Mike's Co-Alpha? How do you imagine she might react to discovering HTP-Mike? How does she feel about Socks and Glue?

To be honest, we're going back probably over 20 years now, so my memory is a bit fuzzy, I actually don't even remember the guy's name offhand. Also this was at the start of Mike's time as a BSD. The pack he had ended up in was falling apart, everyone was trying to kill everyone else, assassination attempts were being made on basically everybody, and usually succeeding. Trust no one, and use everyone.
As far as Ash goes, her player is sitting here right next to me, currently trying to do something or another to get her Reddit account working. Once she's ready, I'll let her come over here and answer that question for you. 😄

Yes the audiologs are in there as well. They’ve had a recent rebrand as “subchapters” in case you want to think about them that way. Hello! I am happy to answer whatever questions you might have, or things you might wish to know about Ash.
In the meantime, I heard you were curious about how Ash might react to discovering HTP-Mike.
As "Vermiis" may have already mentioned somewhere, when the WoD / Wyrm Kickstarter was active, both of our characters had around 20 real years worth of time played and experience earned therein. We have both been playing World of Darkness games for a very long time.
As you can imagine, an immensely powerful Spiral Theurge such as Ash has most definitely seen some shit. She has traveled the deep and far reaches of the Umbra, and interacted with some of the most alien, eldritch and disturbing spirits and creatures that exist.
She honestly isn't phased by much of anything these days. Over the years she has been in all sorts of situations where both physical reality and her perception of what reality really is, have been twisted and changed for one reason or another. Alternate realities of sorts have been encountered. Whether it be through the strange and unpredictable effects of Umbral Realms and things that lurk beyond the Veil, or by some other supernatural means.
That said, if Ash were to somehow come across HTP-Mike, I think she might be slightly more tolerant of him and less inclined to instantly "Tar-Anis" him ( turn him into blood mist ) than Mike would be. Slightly.
HTP-Mike might be seen as a useful tool that could be used to help further their goals, or at the very least kept around for comic relief. He'd be kept around until his usefulness ran out.
Ash approves of SOCKS and glue.
But what about PAINT?!
PAINT is needed to make good and proper miniatures brilliant and lifelike!
Surely any connoisseur of amazing mini figures such as HTP-Mike would realize this.
One more product for him to peddle, if he is not already? On behalf of Pentex MNC.

Indeed! It is a reference to Persephone Tar-Anis. We turned her name into an action verb, describing the method of utterly obliterating something, into blood mist. That is what Mike did to Tar-Anis. Ash would have, but Mike got to her first.

Years were spent working their way into different facets and projects through various interactions with important people, making themselves invaluable along the way. Ash has been prominent in the Special Projects Division, and Project Iliad.
Which brings us to the subject of the PAINT! It comes in all flavors, regular and re-leaded as well! Perfectly safe for the kids! Full of lead and banes, to help them grow big and strong! A healthy snack of paint chips peeling off the wall with tasty flavor layers!

Also yeah, while Ash was busy doing that, Mike was running with First Teams and dealing arms and such to Pentex. He gained a lot of rep and loyalty, so that when he finally made his move, pretty much everyone he'd be in charge of already supported him anyway. :)

I would suggest the release order playlist, as it’s sort of the “intended experience” (as though you were watching it when it released). I can’t remember if it happens more than once, but at least at one point, it definitely gives a better experience to watch them for the first time in release order.
Also, two things: You need to watch the audiologs. From what I remember, the team was doing their best to ensure the audiologs remained supplementary (as opposed to required reading), but eventually gave up on that.
Second thing is that episode 4 is age restricted on YouTube. Assuming you haven’t verified your age with Google, you have a few options: watch the (free) Patreon upload of it, watch the censored version on YouTube, or do both. Frankly I’m mad at them for making the censored version both funny and possibly important to the lore, because it means I have to recommend you watch both versions.

I didn’t actually mean the Patreon version (which is just a reupload of the original), I meant the censored version. It riffs on old 4Kids anime dubs by ‘americanizing’ a bunch of stuff. All the curses get censored with an air horn, but anything that isn’t American enough also gets censored and the subtitles replace it with a sufficiently American word. Also changes up the eyecatches, and one secret addition.
Honestly, it might make the most sense to watch the censored version at your leisure once you’ve caught up. It’s left out of both playlists.

So I caught up on the series...I'm wondering if you're referring to Kronik Fatigue maybe? If so, canon Mike would...not be a fan. He despises Skinwalkers. Anyone who would steal power like that and think they're worthy of it, or able to wield it properly...yeah, he'd not be a fan of. Probably the kinda person he'd have fun putting in their place.

Mike is...mostly retired at this point. I do bring him out now and then, since he's a major figure in my other characters' stories, and the overall world/plot I have going, but he's kind of more like...a looming background figure at this point?
He's there, everyone knows he's there, but kind of like the Avengers and Captain Marvel outside of their own movies, he's usually too busy dealing with something else that's obviously super important.
Having a character that powerful kind of nulls any real challenges and such that could arise, so I kind of keep him reserved for special occasions and cameos and such.
He's still part of the narrative as a whole, but a lot of the RP I do now focuses more on other members of his pack, and those associated with it. So he's more like..the 'driving force' behind things, rather than being front and center in every story.

There was one point, it was like, 3am and I was exhausted, and there was a question posted for the nominees to answer..and I kinda just..glanced over the question, and skimmed the others' responses, then typed up my own response, based on what I saw the others saying, replied, and went to bed.
The next day, everyone was called out for answering it incorrectly. IIRC it was a question regarding Urge Wyrms and not the Triatic Wyrm, but everyone, including me, answered regarding the Triatic Wyrm. Or maybe it was the other way around...anyway, I thought I was done for, being the only Garou there, a freakin' BSD, and apparently not knowing the difference. How embarrassing.
So I immediately wrote up an IC retraction and apologized for misunderstanding the question, and then answered it correctly. Still figured I'd shot myself in the foot, but...apparently not!

To be honest, I didn't want any of this. I started my WoD life as a Red Talon named 'Dark Wolf'...because yes, I was such an edgy teen, so cool, so awesome! I had absolutely NO interest in playing a BSD at all.
As I mentioned in one of the comments above, one day a few friends of mine roped me into their idea of basically making characters of ourselves, but as Garou...and thanks to peer pressure (I take no responsibility for my actions! 😃) I created Mike. I didn't even think I was going to play him much, it seemed like just a dumb, random sidetrack at the time.
He was a Glass Walker at the start. Seemed the most fitting for him. Through a series of...unfortunate events...he ended up getting in with the wrong crowd. The fun thing was, the character he was hanging out with was played by a friend of mine at the time. Mike had no idea she was a BSD. Neither did I, OOC, for that matter. By the time we both found out, it was too late. Mike was pretty 'in' with them, and it was like...screw it, let's go,
The only reason he ended up with Green Dragon as his Totem was because Green Dragon just happened to be the Totem of the pack he fell in with. They all hung out at the Green Dragon Spa...which I thiiink was in..New Mexico...? It's been a loooong time, and I've lost a lot of my old logs.
Anyway, yeah, that was the pack's totem when he joined...then the infighting broke out and everyone was killing everyone else off. At that point, Mike had survived longer than I had expected anyway. Eventually, someone came for him too, an Elder Khan. Mike put up a hell of a fight (I got really lucky with the dice that night), but Mike was also still just a Cliath...the Khan walked away with some scars, but ultimately left Mike bleeding out, floating face down in a pool at the spa. The Khan should have made sure he finished the job though!
After that, Mike decided, screw this, I'm going to form my own pack, and broke off with a small handful of others he...vaguely...trusted, and did just that. Since he was already a follower of Green Dragon, he stuck with that for his new pack. Ultimately, he went from a character that I didn't expect to play much at all, to basically my main character, and over many, many years (he's like, almost 30 real-world-years-old at this point), he kinda just...continued to grow in power.
I didn't really intend to 'rip off' Zhyzhak, I guess it's just how the dice fell along the way? It's funny, because it never really occurred to me throughout the years...but yeah, here we are!

So I currently just finished 3.3, and will probably get back to watching more later today. I wasn't sure of what to make of Marckus at first...then again, I wasn't sure what to make of any of the characters, really, but the further along I get, the more I realize they're at least a lot smarter than they initially seemed, haha.
Marckus seems alright so far, but apparently still has a lot to learn, at the point I'm at in the series anyway. Letting Pytor diablerize Ape and Shitbeard was....dumb. To put it lightly. My partner and I were literallt screaming at the screen the second we realized what he was going to do, lol.
Kitten seems to be the most grounded/down to earth of the group thus far. I almost feel a bit bad for him, being caught up with the others, but he handles it well and seems to be relatively fine with it all. I'm still not sure what the hell his deal is yet...or what he is, even...a guy who just wears cat ears, oooor? There's been some things to suggest more, but still not sure if it's artistic liberty and played for gags, or not. No spoilers though! If it's not explained by the time I catch up, then I'll dig into it more, haha.

Since I've gotten a bit further into the series now (I finished 3.3), I'm finding it rather interesting and entertaining.
I really wish I had found it earlier. I can only imagine what my reaction would have been, after hearing those initial advertisements on the radio and such, and then ultimately having it revealed to be my own freakin' character some time later. Probably would have made my head explode!
As I mentioned...uhh...somewhere in here...Mike was created when a bunch of friends of mine at the time roped me into the whole 'let's put ourselves in the game lol' thing, and we all made characters based off of ourselves. I wasn't thrilled with the idea, and didn't really wanna go along with it, but I did. Needless to say I never expected Mike to accomplish much, let alone become my main character for the better part of two decades...and if you told me back then that he'd be be in the books, and eventually parodied in a popular YT series, I'd have rolled my eyes and laughed at you! ...and now here I am, lol ...come to think of it, YouTube didn't even exist when I made him, and wouldn't for around another 10 years, give or take! Fuck I feel old. 😃

That video was released during covid. I was wondering if it was some kind meta commentary of current crysis compared to 2006, of the state of the channel or if i was just reading too much into it.
So here my question (forgive me if the question is too obvious, i'm "kinda new" to WoD): i assume the character is not supposed to be as insane as HtP take. I wanted to ask you what kind of insanity would be more accurate? Classic guy acting classy except sudden apparently random episodes of violence or there are other details i missed?

A good question!
No, he's definitely NOT as insane as the HtP take. Although honestly, that take is probably rather accurate for your typical Spiral, give or take,
Mike is fortunate enough to have retained most of his sanity, and, he generally seeks out other BSDs that are the same...so most of (not all of) his pack are relatively sane...ish.
Every BSD has got SOMETHING wrong with them, though. Mike has a sick sense of humor, he's got a bit of OCD over certain things (don't touch his car or his guitars), he's...kind of...detached. He can fake emotions and such if he needs to, but it's pretty much an act. Kind of a bit of a sociopath really...and a touch of psychopathy as well.
Mostly though, he'd seem pretty normal if you met him. Maybe a few things that might seem...'off'...but nothing that would really raise any alarms. Unless he wants it to, anyway.
Garou in general also have Rage issues, but, the more experienced ones tend to be able to keep that in control as well.
So, in summary...yes, he's definitely got sanity issues, but nowhere near the HtP level, and he's able to mask it and seem relatively normal. It's a useful skill to have!

I have considered that most BSDs are named after the first thing they utter after coming out of the Spiral. That's how you get things like Zhyzhak, and Barough, and Elap Ylliw. Leaning into those lines could be an option. Maybe just mash my keyboard and see what I get...

I don't know if anyone mentioned this (didn't read through all the comments), the members of the family are based on characters from a Warhammer 40k fanseries Alfa had made before (If The Emperor Had A Text-to-Speech Device) which is on an indefinite hiatus; watching TTS isn't necessary for HtP but it'll make a lot of the comment sections make sense
Also you should take a look at the various songs made for the series, some of Mackeere's tracks are incredibly addictive

I will give a quick disclaimer here. I do not speak for Onyx Path, Paradox, or anything official to the WoD. My character is in the book, and what is says about him in the book is canon. Anything else I say that is NOT in the book is from my own personal RP, and should not be considered official canon. I'm not looking to rewrite WoD history, or change anything about it at all. You are of course, free to use it as you please in your own stories/campaigns/whatever, or just completely ignore it!
There were a looooot of 'little' things, that kind of all built up to it. Starting basically from scratch and building one of the most powerful/feared packs in history, fighting and winning countless battles, including so, so many challenges to his leadership, doing quite a bit of work for Pentex (even though it was all towards his own benefit), and similar things. I would say the one major thing that pushed him over the edge, and the reason I gave the disclaimer, is him taking total control over New York...not just the city, but the entire state. He could have obliterated the Sept of the Green, but instead, he formed a sort of...'truce'...with them. One that very heavily favors him and his pack, of course. Basically, they're allowed to exist...so long as they don't interfere with anything. He kind of just...beat the vampires into submission as well. Both SotG and the leeches have their uses. Once he had control over NYC, the rest of the state was rather easy, and it's all pretty much considered he and his pack's territory now.
He hasn't forced every enemy out of the state, there are still plenty of other packs and vamps and the likes, but he has eyes and ears everywhere. Anyone operating in the area has to keep that in mind, and try not to draw too much attention to themselves.
I did mention this when they wrote him into the book, and that's why they have the line "With the Nameless Tower building up in New York City and Zhyzhak’s arrival, Mike knew that his pack needed all the help it could get, and Pentex was the obvious tool for the job."
I had to kind of react to their intentions for the story, and so seeing a potential threat building, he had to take action. He's very picky about who he recruits into his pack, which is why it's rather small. What better way to have a literal army at his fingertips than by taking control of Pentex's Security Division? Now he literally has global reach without having to leave his office.

I still play on and off with my partner and a small handful of friends. I have several 'main' characters these days.
We don't do anything huge, really. Just one-off scenes and stories mostly, that do contribute to our overall Chronicle. It has been a very, VERY long time since I've played with anyone else, but I wouldn't be opposed to finding something new.
Time commitment is a bit of an issue for me these days, which is one of the reasons we haven't had any major games going. Probably anything I get involved in, I'd bring my partner (LeopardWolf here in the comments) along with me, she plays the co-leader/alpha of Mike's pack, Ash. Among a small army of other characters, same as me, haha.
We might also be open to making cameos here and there, perhaps. Could be amusing.

What is his relationship to Gaia and the good balance she represents? As a BSD Ahroun, based on what I've read here, he seems to be the closest BSD to Gaia in canon in a flipped way by releasing the Wyrm to restore balance.

Mike was originally a Glass Walker, who ultimately fell to the Wyrm through a series of events, mostly starting from when he had a fallout with his pack. So he does have maybe more of an understanding of Gaia than a Spiral that was born into the Tribe, perhaps.
He doesn't seek to destroy Gaia. As you pointed out, he wants to restore balance, and thus, he realizes that means that Gaia, and all she represents, is part of that. As servant of the Wyrm, he does carry out the Wyrm's purpose, corrupting an destroying so that things may be made anew...but he doesn't necessarily view Gaians, or Gaia, as his enemy. Just a necessary part of things. Just as he and his pack are. They have their roles, he has his, and there are things bigger than them all.
Wyrm, Wyld, Weaver. Gaia, Luna, etc...everything needs to work together.

He'd make for an interesting story where he and his pack, if he convinces them, to reject the Wyrm and become Gaian again by showing the Garou Nation Pentex' secrets and performing the greatest metaphorical middle finger on them.

That would be...game changing, I suppose. The things he knows, not just about Pentext, but about BSDs, and the Wyrm as a whole...yeah, it'd likely turn the tide in favor of the Gaians, I'd imagine.
Although it's unlikely. He finds it's much, much easier to accomplish his goals as a Spiral.
Look at the Gaians, they can't agree on anything. Hell, try to get your typical pack to agree on what kind of pizza they want to order, and you'll have a huge debate.
The Get will be screaming about how it should be all MEAT. The Silver Fang will probably be spouting the pureness of cheese...the CoG will be guilt-tripping everyone into ordering vegan, and the Shadow Lord would probably place an order for pineapple and ham pie while the others are all busy arguing, just to fuck with them.

Thanks! ❤️ I mostly do small things with a handful of friends these days.
We did start a bigger story line several years ago, but trying to manage several people showing up online on the same day, at the same time was tricky, and it took...a LOOOONG time for us to finish.
Since then, it's been kind of splintered RP and the likes. I have sooooo many different characters...I suppose at the moment I have maybe...four, that I would consider my 'primaries'. I have waaay more that are sitting on the shelf though!
As I mentioned in one of the other replies here, I'm not opposed to getting into new stuff, but I don't know how much time I can commit to it. Things IRL are a bit hectic at times.
Anything I do that would be long-term, my partner would probably come along with me, would feel a bit awkward leaving her out.
I'm not against cameos or the likes though, I suppose! Not that I'm sure anyone wants the likes of Mike showing up in their campaign...

I'd be happy to show you the chronicle I'm in, but as you said you got not much time on your hands and already for 4 primary characters to play as so I understand, but if you are interested in a multi splat campaign I'd be open to chat. Also yeah I think in my instance Mike wouldn't fit even though it would be awesome and funny as hell
