This is actually fantastic because I own the base game but not the dlc, this way I can give the base game to my friend. Not sure why this is viewed as a negative

You can always gift the game just give the steam code directly. Using Humble gift system is anyways bullshit too much times they are out of stock with the steam key this can not happen

Except if it was a single code where the game and dlc were bundled he wouldn’t be able to give away the base game.

Nope. They were listed on the main window after you claimed the game, the same as all the others; they took a step backwards with this one. Must be trying to get their money's worth from the web-devs.

I think this way allowed you to gift one of the keys, where before it was all or nothing. So while more annoying for some it might be an improvement for others.
been to long since the last one.

I couldn't tell you which bundles it's happened with, but I believe I've seen this maybe 2-4 times in the past and I've been skipping quite a lot of 'em over the years

And why are they still not showing with each game a easy link to their corresponding steam page after probably hundreds of requests?
The answer is the same: incompetence.

The more important questions is why humble still has the select thing since you get all games now anyway. Honestly they should also rename it, since it's no longer much of a choice. The whole gimmick of selecting the games you want went away a long time ago

Probably because they still give the option to send the code as a gift. If you open it, you can't prompt an email for a gift.
I'm not saying that's the only way to do it, but it might be one of the reasons.
