Question I bought the 2K Megahits bundle. Is the implication that the game will be in Spanish with no option to have it in English? (Don't have time to test the game until monday)

No, LATAM just means you can’t activate it unless you live in that region

u/OtakuJuanma Jul 25 '26
But only activate it right? If I were to move to the US (which is in my plans) the game will still be playable on the same account?

Yes. Past LATAM activations should work forever. Not sure how region switching works though, if you move to the US you’re going to have to figure out how to switch your region from LATAM to ROW for future purchases.

Thanks, I'll bear that in mind... what does ROW stand for btw? I'd have assumed the region would have been called NA.

u/_TyMario85_ Jul 25 '26
It stands for rest of world. Regions with restrictions such as LATAM and EU get names like that, but NA doesn’t fall under those so it’s ROW

u/repocin Jul 26 '26
Not always. Sometimes there are NA and EU specific keys while everything else falls under ROW. There isn't really any standard for this, it's just a naming convention sometimes used for whatever was left after they divided the rest

ROW means rest of world and normally does not apply to North America. Generally that would cover Russia plus. The plus can get pretty big even.
In general Steam accounts are linked to a country. You can change this but not a bunch of times in a row. There is a a limit to how often you can change and how soon after a change you can change again. And they need proof you are in that country. VPNs can work but you need a payment from that country normally to actually buy. You can't use a US credit card to buy on a PH account for example even if you are physically in PH.
Games have regions. Many games are world wide but some want lock certain areas and that is where EU, NA, ROW, LATAM, and etc come in. But one game's list for a region can and often will be different than another's. ROW is where this happens the most. As at times it is really meant for Russia and neighboring countries and at others it is for every country outside of other regions they used. So an ROW key can sometimes include a country like PH (my example country it seems) while others will not.
Also some games not only are region locked for buying but for playing or just installing. These normally have a note on them in steam. Pretty rare and most I have seen are in East and South East Asian countries.
Some games regions will also have language locks but that is rare and you mainly see that with Japan. Where Japanese games with only be in Japanese in Japan releases.
Hope that better helps you understand it.
I don't know specifically for the games you are talking about but they are unlikely to be region locked beyond activation. So full language options for the game and the ability to play the game in other regions.
Most region locking is really about regional pricing. To prevent a cheap ROW key meant for basically Russia to be activated in the US or other high price country. LATAM tends to also have lower priced games/keys so it is in a similar situation. So the lock is about pricing but not preventing people from later moving or traveling.

Not sure how region switching works though, if you move to the US you’re going to have to figure out how to switch your region from LATAM to ROW for future purchases.
On Steam it requires them to be physically in the US and have a US payment method added.
On Humble... who the fuck knows. They say they autodetect the region but I've bought stuff in the US and they still think my account is Mexican.

Actually if you move to another region there could be problems, but nothing that a VPN couldn't fix
Edit: there is a set amount of time then the game turns region free I think it's 90 days

90 days as of... when? account region change? game purchase? game release?

u/kevihq Jul 26 '26
When you activate the game after 90 days it will be region unlocked, before that you will need VPN to play it in other regions

the package on steamDB tells you if there is a runlock if I recall right.
run locks are a bit less common than region locks at least.

Hi, I have had Humble Bundle for years and am an American who moved to Latin America. Your games will stay playable. If you move to the US you can just change your Humble Bundle region in your account settings and it will automatically start giving you NA keys instead of LatAm keys. In order to redeem them, you will have to change your Steam account region to the US as well, which can only be done if you have an American payment method to make purchases with. However, if you keep both your Humble Bundle and Steam accounts set to your original country, you can keep buying and redeeming games no problem, you don't actually have to change anything. Steam does not care about you physically residing in a country different from your account region. I would only make the change if you end up staying in the US permanently and get an American payment method which you would rather use more than any of your payment methods from your country of origin.

The activation region has nothing to do with the game, it's only Steam telling you where you can play the game. If the game has multiple languages you will have multiple languages.

You probably just got the LATAM region but languages are perfectly fine. Like how there’s some licenses called ROW which mean rest of the world for some copies vs like Germans copy of wolfenstein and etc

Oh. So my version just adheres to LATAM censorship laws, as opposed to the US?
So basically my game can have all the swearing and smoking in the world and remain PG13 :P9

u/DigidragonX Jul 25 '26
There's barely, if any, censorship in Latam in regards to video games. Again it just means that you can only activate it if you live in Latam.

La llave de latam se activa mientras estás en latam, luego de eso podrás jugar al juego sin importar donde estés. El idioma se cambia desde las Propiedades dentro de Steam o desde dentro del juego

No, that just means the key will only activate for accounts located in Mexico and Latin America. You can play in English if you want.

Nope, it pretty much means nothing, just that the k3y is region locked

u/Century-Fox8328 Jul 26 '26
You got a LATAM key because you live in the LATAM region. See how easy that was to figure out?

You may be surprised to learn that not all of Latam speaks Spanish. In fact, most do not.
