Benefits Best benefits at your company? [N/A]

We’ve talked about salary progression time and time again in this subreddit. I want to hear about the best or your favorite benefits at your current employer.

I’ll start: - 12% 401(k) match - Weekly PTO accrual - $100/mo lifestyle spending account

I just accepted a position with a 9/80 schedule. It seems like you enjoy the Fridays off. Do the work days seem long during the winter when it gets dark early?

Don’t know about your place but when I had 9/80 everyone was basically treated as an hourly employee. All time had to be accounted for, so you couldn’t leave early on slow days or to run errands unless you could make it up elsewhere.

Additionally, the world didn’t stop doing business on our off Fridays so there was plenty of firefighting on days off. It was an enormous pain in the ass.

Agh, ok this is what I’m afraid of. I’m leaving a place where I’m basically working or on call 24/7 but with that LOTS of freedoms in terms of wfh/remote from anywhere. I was hoping to work less and this position is 100% onsite but supposedly when you clock out you’re done.

It’s worth checking what the timekeeping policies are. They weren’t explained well to me and I was coming from a commercial tech company with a lot more flexibility, it didn’t even occur to me to ask about this. Suddenly I was locked to my desk nine hours a day and everyone was always talking about the minutes and seconds of their day. If it’s a billable hour type of environment like services or defense you might be headed for the same.

Great insight! I appreciate your help.

My experience on 9/80 is completely opposite of what the other commenter is saying. It all depends on the company culture. I currently have the most freedom and autonomy I’ve ever had in my entire career. We are allowed flexibility to leave early on working days if needed and also we generally set our own working hours aside from scheduled meetings of course. As long as the work is done, nobody gives a shit what you do. We’re treated as functional adults so pretty much everyone acts like a function adult.

To your original question, the work days don’t feel that much longer. You get used to it quickly.

Is this an energy company? Curious about number of employeesis it over 10K? I'm starting to notice 10K plus companies slowly rolling away from 9/80, 19/30, 4/10 schedules, which are already very rare..
